You think Prince was better thna Jimi Hendrix at guitar?

this fucker

youtube.com/watch?v=ImRX8ltWK40

Andre 3000
youtube.com/watch?v=bMmhHBr7WDA

...

i went for a long time as writing hendrix off as dadrock, but now consider him to probably be the most gifted rock guitarist ever. his playing is on another level, everyone else sounds 2D compared to him. i've been playing guitar for ten years and am still blown away by his work, more so than any super technical player either

Dave Murray.

who is the best out of this chart?

The Pink Krimson Expereppelin

...

1. VU&N
2. IASW
3. ITCOTCK
rest is trash

you honestly think lou reed is a better guitarist than john mclaughlin? lmao

John McLaughlin is the best guitarist there but In A Silent Way is far from his best.

Bad bait

1. Hendrix
2. McLaughlin

Third is either Hazel or Zappa

Rest are trash and not worth considering

Not that guy but Omar is seriously pretty great. He's solos have a ton of emotion to them and he's original as fuck.

This guy
lmao

>i don't know jack shit about guitar
I can see that

he is a good guitar player. probably better than I will ever be. but he is in no way anywhere close to hendrix

Well yeah but in the other hand, no one posted ITT is.

no one because he is the GOAT

Really?

...

he should have a statue made or something.

youtube.com/watch?v=vQS7SOdt0T0

He's the miles davis of rock

shannon wright is my new gold standard guitarist. she fucking rules.

No contest

He really should, at least at the Fender factory or something.

...

J Mascis

Overrated and i'm a fan of Zappa. He was always pretty one-sided as a soloist.

>i'm a fan of Zappa
sure you are.

Anyway, why is there no guitar thread?

The only answer so far i can get behind.

...

I really like Gary Lucas

>nobody has said Steve Vai yet
maybe there is hope for Sup Forums

...

more like no one wanted to be "that guy" that says Steve Vai
but now that's you, congrats

>sure you are.
The fuck you mean? He was the most important artist in my life for several years. Just never thought of him as a guitarist comparable to Jimi, Prince, Dick Dale and a bunch of others.

Jimi > McLaughlin > Carlos > Zappa > Page > the rest

Marty Friedman

Hendrix isnt really tbat good of a guitarist.
Like any known Jazz guitarist is better.

>Jimi Hendrix is one of the best guitarist of all time

>rockists really think this

...

if i could be any musician on earth it would be john mayer goddammit

In rock? Literally no one
maybe Omar Rodriguez Lopez or Eddie Hazel if I had to chose, but there is really no one better than hendrix. His style was just so goddamn original and perfect...

One chord is fine. Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz.

Look up the word context

Ernie Isley of the Isley Supergroup,

My Boy

why are you more blown away by him

he just explained why retard

Isley Bros. rock 8 roll w/ the best you. Cunts.

...

I wanted him to explain further. Yes, his playing is 3D, but I wanted to hear him speak further on the subject. Simmer down.

Best version of voodoo child out there. Everything he did felt intentional. Him and clapton.

doug martsch

McLaughlin's best playing with Miles is probably on Jack Johnson. He absolutely kills it on the track 'Right Off'

i really love jimi and he inspired me to pick up the guitar but duane allman is the best. he is the most passionate guitar player ive heard in all of rock; every note bleeds with emotion and purpose

Batio
Malmsten
Satriani
Vai
Page
Buckethead, to name some.
I love Hendrix, but in technical terms, he's not the best.

The track Lights are On off the Modern Primitive albums is some serious next level shit though. I don't even understand what he is doing half the time to sound that way.

Remove Batio. The phrasing is dogshit. Remove Buckethead as well for the same reason. You need to go somewhere if you are playing quickly, not just play quickly.

I vote for Django Reinhardt.

Clapton is over rated. SRV is good but his discography is limited. He has a couple jazz tracks and one slide track that show some more versatility, but over all has far too many covers/standards and far too few originals. His popular stuff is all contemporary blues-pop and paved the way for John Mayer though.

But Buckethead also does this,
youtube.com/watch?v=oVVCavjaltM

This is bad. I listened from 4 minutes to 5 and it is very bad phrasing. Check out Wes Montgomery. Don't put him on a list next to Vai and Satriani.

Greg Howe
Allan Holdsworth
Shawn Lane
Guthrie Govan
Jason Becker
Frank Gambale
Tosin Abasin

Has no one mentioned John Frusciante yet? Maybe not exactly better but I reckon he could give Hendrix a run for his money... Say what you will about RHCP but you gotta look beyond them into his solo stuff for his full range of abilities

Good list.

Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Buckethead.

Can you post some examples? I like some of his riffs, but don't like RHCP overall.

SLASH
KIRK HAMMETT

youtube.com/watch?v=fYGm01I5Quw
this little jam

youtube.com/watch?v=Pgxfo-cVu0g
>skip around a bit, but especially listen to the solo in "my lovely man", trackstamps are in the description

youtube.com/watch?v=sw49bkdj7GQ
>also i've always felt his work in this track channeled some Hendrix near the end

bass is a cooler instrument

Literally the worst guitarist that ever got famous.

Keiji Haino

youtu.be/rXNZ4Y3ojx4

seconding.
Literally the greatest that ever played:
youtube.com/watch?v=V0L4kPdMFNc

Fred Frith Mary Halvorson Keiji Haino Afro Lindsay Derek Bailey Sonny Sharrock Munehiro Narita Michio Kurihara Loren Connors Alan Licht John Fahey

kind of a dumb question to be honest. guitarist wanking gets pretty fucking old. and its autistic to love something just because the guitarist is good (either artistically or mechanically)

Oren Ambarchi

I fucking hate Eric Clapton

spencer rice is a female now?

Page, Blackmore, Iommi

Arto Lindsay
Takashi Mizutani
Adrian Belew
Michael Karoli (not really but he fucking rips)
pretty much everyone does, jazz musicians, classical musicians, critics, historians whatever

Wog detected.

>jazz musicians, classical musicians
like who?
>critics, historians
art con cunts

literally everyone, he is universally praised. miles wanted to work with him iirc
youtube.com/watch?v=R9HjsqxqUos

miles wasn't a jazzman

I hope you're trolling but you're retarded either way

you must not play guitar if you dont think hendrix is worthy of being considered a great even if u dont like listening to it

Jimi is only famous because he died this young, so all the guitaring he did he did in the timespan of a few years.

This guy has been guitaring since the 1970's and has a very unique style

youtube.com/watch?v=U6F8Kt94qpo

dope guitar
