Surreal

Cheerful sounding, but not actually happy

I'm a sucker for atmosphere, especially open soundscapes with enveloping production. I also fetishize when tracks transition seamlessly. Something that's really engrossing, but still attention-grabbing which changes (it pushes forward, unlike, for example, drone music)

Folk, sad and maybe a bit atmospheric

I can appreciate anything that breaks conventions, yet is still a coherent piece of music that isn't different for the sake of being different.

Peasant by Richard Dawson

math rock with explosive chorus and melodic riffs, female vocals if posible

Biota
Jun Togawa and Carla Bolzuvich
Jandek and Abner Jay
anything by Sarah Records
Basinski album dedicated to Bowie's death

Marnie Stern

oh and i forgot, Tricot

i like anything that breaks conventional song structures bc over the last years i became too depressed to listen to anything overly melodical

something like this but not necessarily noise
youtube.com/watch?v=YcAwIU-sBXI

Droning/trancelike rock that's crunchy and deep, yet soft

Melodic sometimes psychedelic pop/rock music(Beatles, Beach Boys, Byrds)
Dreamy and shoegazey atmospheric pop
Catchy, well-written, while still energetic post-punk and new wave
Singer-Songwriter(Dyaln, Buckley, Neil Young, Van Morrison)
I'll try really any genre of hip-hop
1st and 2nd Wave post-rock
60's/70's "Art"/Experimental Rock Rock(Velvet Underground, Zappa, Beefheart)

Guerilla Toss

>Melodic sometimes psychedelic pop/rock music(Beatles, Beach Boys, Byrds)

try Amusement parks on fire and Ringo deathstarr
Ween (duh) and Barlow has some stuff
cozmic corridors
listen to Contemporary movement and Stratosphere by Duster
Labradford and Cozmic corridors i suppose

Swingin Party by the Replacements is one of the best songs ever

>shoegazey math rock
that's exactly what Number Girl does

Surf, funk, sludge

Psychedelic, Melodic, and Unpretentious Lyrics.

If there is violins/cello's thats an even better bonus but not required.

prog math rock, like that one polvo album mixed with the first three minutes of Close to the Edge

Weird Al and early Tyler

Pretty Girls Make Graves

Drone, Metal, Post-Punk (The noisier side of post-punk)

Lil Dicky

Black one by Sunn o)))
GT Ultra by Guerilla Toss
NeŌ Wax Bloom by Iglooghost

Really anything by Sunn o))) before they released Kannon, very interesting phrases, creates a physical response to music which I haven't caught from anything else that wasn't just doing it for the sake of being different

Atmospheric, nostalgic, dude riffs

That's just shit, not goofy

There is no such thing as too much repetition, or too much reverb. I gravitate towards things that are either life-affirming or satirical, but the technical quality of the vocals and the songwriter's creativity are never deal-breakers for me.

If you haven't already by now, XTC: youtube.com/watch?v=gIrQCp6iucE

I'd agree on pixies-like and noisy but shoegazey math rock? Number Girl? Not really seeing it except for maybe a few tracks on their last studio release

Catchy melody and rhythm, sonically pleasing

Marvin Gaye - What's Goin On

Atmospheric, somewhat repetitive (think LCD Soundsystem), jammy (think The Doors), psychedelic, soulful and sincere, haunting, harmonious, rythmic. Can be either sad or uplifting.

pic related is a playlist i have based on that

John Martyn
Another Green World

Have a pretty wide musical taste. Recently listened to Pink moon and thought it was great. Love Father John Misty, The queen is dead and In the aeroplane.

Listen to this right now my dude

cold, monotone voice, machinistic, cynical, harsh synths, bass, sexual but not romantic, repetitive, soulless, absurd, hazy, psychedelic, rhythmic over melodic, noisy

Mac Demarco
>inb4 teen hipster garbage

Bad music, just absolute garbage shit

Radiohead

>instrumental hip hop/plunderphonics
Or
>intense but musically and melodically competent electric/metal/rock

Trout Mask Replica

haha nah fuck you and your picky ass taste

Korean, sunshine pop, beautiful harmonies.

I'm familiar and he's alright
