You do it right and you do it good.

Surf was never a gimmick genre

youtube.com/watch?v=JibEGdolCA4

It was though.

>somebody that isn't me made a surf thread with a picture of Dick Dale.
Nice.
Only plebs don't understand surf music, unfortunately they never will so there isn't anything we can do for them. They'll just go on listening to shit like Elliot Smith, lil peep, Animal Collective, Grimes, Ween, Swans, and all their other garbage.

you make parents hate it

that's not a surf song..it's just a tune off a boogie woogie pattern ..
also guitar rock n roll instros arent automatically surf..
Like Link wray's Rumble isn't surf

Dick Dale did a good cover of Rumble.

>that's not a surf song
hmm

& dick dale recorded music under the "hot Rod" style than surf

Surf Music was generally more mellow..it wasn't until pulp fiction came out everyone wanted to play like "misirlou"

I'd stay stick to what these guys did in the 90's it had some pop elements in it.

Just amp the production up to today's standards, drums have to be 808's with a trap snare. Catchy riff and chorus and you've got yourself a semi surf rock hit.

gtfo i dont care what wikipedia states + i own that orig physical copy

What kind of shirt is that? I like it.

Looks like Velour

Thanks. I meant the actual cut of shirt too. I like the way it looks and if Dick Dale wore it then it's cool.

...

Surf rock is one of the corniest sounding genres I can think of. Awful music.

Ask /fa/

Hahahaha, excellent satire post.

But it was a gimmick to begin with

...

>He says while listening to Grimes.

Do you have any Dick Dale?

...

More like SERF Rock, because you've got to be a pleb living in the past to like it!

...

Did you just assume my music taste?!

I actually can't even name one Grimes song or even album.

Autism is off the charts.

no man no man

any time a genre pigeon holes itself to have strict rules it becomes a meme

genres that become traditional wind up only having a tiny group of people that appreciate it

You would have to have some kind of innovative music with it that took the best elements and put them into something new but not use those elements as crutches so they sound corny.

How much did the Dick Dale stuff run you?

wikipedia is fucking trash
that song is not surf, its a simple I IV V done with heavy orchestration with no characteristics of surf music.

youtube.com/watch?v=KBx1Q3DEyDY

this was probably the last use of surf sounds that was a big hit. Its just a really nice use of the sound and isn't over doing it or trying to overly gimmick it like the way hardcore surfbands like man or astroman, messer chups, etc. do

Joey Santiago of the Pixies is very surfy in his style

But think, you wouldn't be interested in surf at all if it wasn't such a dead, niche realm of music.

Clean, heavy reverbed guitars seem to be taxed to oblivion now in music which sucks because its such a nice sound and the most fun to play with.

youtube.com/watch?v=_R9an8AU3No

how do we make pedal steel with talk box vocals a thing again

>no characteristics of surf music
It's really not that different to Wipe Out at all.

Thank you...it's basically just a boogie woogie..
too many people think.. clean guitar = surf for some reason..
anyhow, that's all i wanna spend on the subject..i'm cleaning my 45s

Metal music is surf in disguise

It is?

The Mermen are absolutely awesome surf band, I cant believe they got passed over from ever going mainstream

A reallly good brief interview about how Dick Dale started out. Particularly interesting how he helped Leo Fender develop more powerful amps.

Bambi Molesters are bretty good desu
youtube.com/watch?v=iv1k4ovf4B8

and what???? is the real genre written on it?????

I encourage everyone itt to checkout The Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet: not strictly just surf but they're super fun and punchy instro-rock:

This too. youtu.be/NLFSPRs9j0g

Albini produced some of the best surf rock ever.

its all about how he mixed the clean guitars and drums. he's a genius about that stuff

Y'all realize saying "bring back surf" is just like those kids screaming about wanting metal to be mainstream, or jazz to come back. Surf is history, its almost as if I said I wanted to bring baroque back. Musical genres die as tastes change. Just respect the music that did come out of the genre.

On this one the guitars are a bit muddier but his amazing drum sound is still in tact. Albini was killing it during this era.
