To add to this point, I think it's funny the ending of Robocop is so satisfying even though it only serves to reinforce Murphy is a literal corporate tool. He can't kill Jones until he is fired by the Old Man. He still is locked into his programming. I like that his "soul" doesn't change that. He's a robot with human skin over the face.

Even if he's still locked by his programming that smile at the end and his affirmation that he's "Murphy" are still brilliant.
I know people rag on 2 for making him revert to being colder and robotic but they make it fairly clear that Murphy can't return to his old human life but he can at least make sure his family is safe.
