the reason is simple, these songs are played due to their coolnes, bad songs don't stay in time.
Talking about todays music, you should just search better. I suggest you to try out MGMT, Radiohead and stuff

Miserere mei, Deus (Latin for "Have mercy on me, O God") is a setting of Psalm 51 (50) by Italian composer Gregorio Allegri. It was composed during the reign of Pope Urban VIII, probably during the 1630s. Allegri composed it for use in the Sistine Chapel during matins, as part of the exclusive Tenebrae service on Holy Wednesday and Good Friday of Holy Week. At some point, it became forbidden to transcribe the music and it was allowed to be performed only at those particular services at the Sistine Chapel, thus adding to the mystery surrounding it. Then, a 14-year-old punk named Mozart pirated it by memory after hearing it once.
If I don't listen to it at least once a week then I get sad
You will find joy in SOME of mike oldfield’s 1970-present stuff

You need to wait quite a while for meh music to fall by the wayside. Then again you may find music that just clicks with you.
I'm currently looping through Faded by Alan Walker which is unusual because I don't even remember where I heard it.
I have been like this before (with "Breath" by Midge Ure -the whole album is an interesting listening, actually- or "While the Earth sleeps" by Peter Gabriel and Deep Forest -which has very interesting music too and lead me Afrocelt Sound System-).
Then again, I have always liked Vangelis, Jarre and Oldfield so maybe my choices aren't actually that surprising.
Oh, and if you want uplifting music you could listen to Heut'ist mein Tag (Blümchen) or Move your body (Eiffel 65)
Not OP, but this song makes me cry every time I listen to it for some reason. Oddly enough, this song was playing when I lost my virginity.
Don't know why those two go together,
My favorite band has a new album for pre order after years of non existance

College radio? Single hour show. Wouldn’t ever be a full 24/7 radio. Op baiting.
acsi boy meets girl
As an OP i can personally recommend Jam Baxter for those who like extraordinary hip-hop, especially WE ATE THEM WHOLE album. He is quiet a lyrical genius. If that isn't enough for you, try out some more british underground from High Focus records.
