The English language would be better with these letters: Ð Þ Æ ß

The English language would be better with these letters: Ð Þ Æ ß

Agreed 100%

>ße Æmerican
>get shot

kek

>Sse Aemerican

I raffed

Æßhole.

What sounds do Ð and þ make?

å and ö could be helpful as well, and ü

Ð = this, that, these, either
þ = teeth, thief, thing, ether

you know we already have three of those in usage

Or we could just have a bunch of long words with the same four or five letters repeated several times each like your autistic language.

Why would we need ß? German has it because their singular s makes a z sound.

english would be way better if americans stopped using it

I don't see the difference, all of them make the "th" sound.

þ= Breath, Bath
Ð=Breathe, Bathe
Thorn (þ) is the voiceless alveolar fricative. Just make the th sound without using your vocal chords

Eth (Ð) is a voiced alveolar fricative. DO the same thing as thorn, but vibrate your vocal chords.

The difference between thorn and eth is like the difference between f and v.

it vibrates either fucking way

Why would you use "ß" if "ss" makes the same sound as "s" in most cases in English? Don't make our mistake and create letters that sound the same but are different for historical reasons (like "rz" and "ż" - they're both "zh" but "rz" is used in words where for some reason "r"->"zh" transition happened, same thing with words where "o" changed into "oo", we use "ó" instead of usual "u" even though they sound exactly the same)

English needs to rid itself of c and x. They are redundant letters.

Which letters you use are the least concern as long as you keep your fucking spelling consistent.

>ð, þ
Just use and .

Just use . English has no true Sup Forums anyway. (inb4 Dixies)

Are you using for /ts/ or crap like that? No? Then the letter is useless.

No it doesn't you retarded quarter pounder. It's no wonder you're so fucking useless at learning other languages when you can't even comprehend your own.

Put the hand on your throat. Now pronounce the following pairs:

Fan, Van
Seal, Zeal
baTH, baTHe
Sure, pleaSure

You'll notice the later in each pair makes your throat vibrates way more than the former.

He's probably confusing the vibration due to the vowel with the one from the consonant.

yeah i was confused before but i figured out what it meant

why are you so angry
im pretty good at learning languages actually
youre not good at learning them just because you were born hearig them and had no challenge

>Which letters you use are the least concern as long as you keep your fucking spelling consistent.
agreed
>English has no true Sup Forums anyway
no? a in cat and a in what are totally different.

>Why would we need ß? German has it because their singular s makes a z sound.
Not always. The s in Maske makes an s sound for instance.

Neither is Sup Forums, though; the one in "cat" is /æ/, and the one in "what" is /ɒ/ or even /ɔ/. Sup Forums is a bit more open than /æ/ and more often than not central.

First attempt.

a: trap, bad, cab, ham
aw: pawm

Im in college and Im pretty sure we didn't learned what those characters correspond to which sounds in school. Which ones are they?

O's a slut

Also
>cúr

The association depends on the language, but in general:
þ = TH as in THink; Z as in caZa
ð = TH as in THe; D as in deDo
æ = the vowel sounds like a middle ground between Spanish "a" and Spanish "e"; either like Italian bEllo or even a bit more open.
ß = German respelling of "ss" after long vowels (otherwise they'd be read as short vowels)

I focused mostly on the rhymes, so I kinda missed the "y" sound in "cure". We should check if it can be predicted, I think it's being triggered by k/c.

"O" is the local slut because I tried to keep the original rules when possible.

How are you going to take into account dialectal differences? The Scottish pronounce hoarse and horse differently for example.

I'm using lexical sets to avoid most dialectal issues. Horse>hors, hoarse>hórs.

It's fine if you represent the same sound different ways, as long as there's one single way to pronounce a certain letter/letter combination for each dialect.

ir: pir

Nah

Ekki stela stáfrof mínum! Þú ert þjófur!

[Note: the interpunct is just to show some problematic boundaries. And considering it's 6AM, it's probably full of errors]

Actually the resemblance with Icelandic alphabet was coincidental.

It used to. The lyrics to a famous English song from the 1200's:

>Svmer is icumen in
>Lhude sing cuccu
>Groweþ sed
>and bloweþ med
>and springþ þe wde nu
>Sing cuccu
>Awe bleteþ after lomb
>lhouþ after calue cu
>Bulluc sterteþ
>bucke uerteþ
>murie sing cuccu
>Cuccu cuccu
>Wel singes þu cuccu
>ne swik þu nauer nu
>Sing cuccu nu • Sing cuccu.
>Sing cuccu • Sing cuccu nu

Literal translation:

>Summer is a-comin' in
>Loud sing [sing loud], cuckoo!
>Groweth, seed
>and bloweth (bloom) meadow
>and springeth the wood now [ie, leaves appear]
>Sing cuckoo
>Ewe bleateth after lamb
>Loweth after calf, cow (ie, the cow lows for its calf)
>Bullock strutteth
>Buck farteth (ie, the goat makes funny noises)
>Merry sing cuckoo
>Cuckoo, cuckoo
>Well sings you, cuckoo
>No swick (ie, trick) us ever, now (ie, don't stop being summer)
>Sing cuckoo; sing cuckoo
>Sing cuckoo; sing cuckoo now!

LEAV MÆ LETTERS ALONE

What ugly feet and toenails.

>his language doesn't have grammatical cases

X is far better than having ks everywhere and c and k have more of an aesthetic with certain spellings

> his "language" has no articles

Every language has newspapers full of articles you dumb Sancho

it's retarded, she can hold the phone this way but not press the "take picture" buttons

fucking normans, harald hardrada would never have let those letters disappear
