ITT: buttmad poorfags hating on based Bono for not paying taxes
What do you mean?
it wouldn't be such a problem if he didnt write anti-capitalist songs or had such shit music to begin with
>Bono is turning into John Lydon
What the fuck are you on about
I guess I'm having a.. *puts on sunglasses*
hate Boner
Good one user
That and he doesn't want to accept that U2 are dadrock now and should stop chasing chart hits.
No one mentioned the fact that his anti-poverty ONE campaign only spends little over 1% in income to what its actually supposed to go to?
he doesnt pay taxes senpai doesnt get anymore clear than that.
if I take your glasses off will you die?
Hopefully
>Came from the bottom, grew up in war torn Ireland, lost mother at 13 years old
>made some of the most critically acclaimed and best selling albums of the 1980s and 1990s, including Boy, The Joshua Tree, War, Achtung Baby, and The Unforgettable Fire
>worked with Brian Eno on several albums
>Achtung Baby was the first rock album to feature significant influence from electronic dance music and other contemporary experimental music and significantly widened their popularity, exposing listeners to groundbreaking music they would have otherwise never heard before, predating Kid A by 9 years
>was behind the groundbreaking and yet to be topped Zoo TV Tour
>is self aware, his persona during the Zoo TV-era was a satire of himself in response to all the critics who called him pompous during the Rattle and Hum days
>is a patrician who had bands including but not limited to This Heat, Interpol, Kings of Leon, Bjork, Mission of Burma, The Fall, Einsturzende Neubauten, Public Enemy and Pixies open for his band when they were in their prime to give them exposure
>albums still hold up, receive rave reviews upon being re-released, even by Pitchfork
>single handedly made the American and British public view AIDS and HIV as diseases that deserve treatment and sympathy rather than a punishment for being a degenerate, something even Princess Diana failed to do
>single handedly convinced George W. Bush to become the president who gave the most money to AIDS research, not Clinton, not Obama, George W. Bush
>wants to create a high fidelity and consumer friendly music format
>hated by Reddit
>hated by Sup Forums
The rest is for lawyers and offshore accounts.
What are you talking about? Of course he does
>Achtung Baby was the first rock album to feature significant influence from electronic dance music and other contemporary experimental music and significantly widened their popularity, exposing listeners to groundbreaking music they would have otherwise never heard before, predating Kid A by 9 years
I think you forgot how they basically ripped off Nine Inch Nails and made it radio friendly user
>is a patrician who had bands including but not limited to This Heat, Interpol, Kings of Leon, Bjork, Mission of Burma, The Fall, Einsturzende Neubauten, Public Enemy and Pixies open for his band
You forgot PJ Harvey. And giving Kings Of Leon more exposure isn't really something anyone should be proud of.
>>hated by Reddit
>>hated by Sup Forums
why did you write the same thing twice
He does pay taxes but goes to extraordinary lengths to avoid paying taxes when a great deal of his songs feature pro-socialist lyrics
Daily reminder that early U2 is good regardless of how much of a fucking asshole Bono is.
The influx of obviously underage Nine Inch Nails fans on this board in recent months is really starting to irritate me.
I remember being 13 and always having the need to bring my favorite bands into any conversation no matter how unrelated those bands actually were to the discussed subject, but seriously. Knock it the fuck off already. It's irritating.
it's radio friendly stale commercial garbage user
What's wrong with that?
Christgau always said while he respected U2, he thought Bono could not into singing and they were too art rock-y and European for his taste.
>early U2
>early
I dont give a shit about NiN
He means pre-Joshua Tree U2 before they turned into lighter-waving stadium rock.
it's hypocritical
still stale and boring imo
bigger impact
Well I hope so. Liking that band beyond your 15th birthday is pretty embarrassing.
And liking U2 isn't?
15 year olds never liked U2, they were always college rock.
more like midlifecrisis rock
>hating on based Bono for not paying taxes
That's not his biggest crime desu, he's done much worse things
nope, because it's "cool" to hate U2
No way man, thier stadium shows were groundbreaking and subversive.
tell us user
not without reason
How is it hypocritical? Where in his songs does he even mention taxes?
he doesn't mention taxes, their songs are anti-capitalist which is kind of the same thing really
I'm not that into U2 outside of bits and pieces from their 90s output, but not at all. People who go out of their way to shit on such easy targets as U2 are usually boring simpletons in their own right.
And yeah, this. I'm not so sure about the average age of U2's fanbase at this point, but during the decades when they made their most acclaimed work their audience consisted largely of people in their 20s/30s.
> made being an aids having faggot cool
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEEEEAAAAHHHH
i'd say people in their 40s and 50s mostly
Which U2 songs are anti-capitalist?
it's not stupid
>war torn Ireland
Dublin was relatively safe during the troubles
it's mediocre to my ears
I'm sorry user
discoteque is a tolerable tune though desu
Don't sweat it. Have a nice weekend, user.
Pop is filled with anti-capitalist songs
you too, user
Which songs?
Quote me the lyrics you are referring to
>Bono
>anti-capitalist
Oh sweetie
More like Boner
He changed his mind in recent years but back in the early 2000s and late 90s he wouldn't shut up about how good socialism is
>socialist
>suddenly gets stupidly rich
>now a capitalist
huh
>wouldn't shut up
>still no quotes
I dunno about you, but based on my experience that age group are more likely to know Black In Black than The Joshua Tree.
I'm sorry you grew up in a trailer park, user.
Stop watching South Park.
bono is a legend
one of the best songs of the 80s coming thru
youtube.com
"Dear Bongo, no."
- capt. Beefheart
(when asked about making a collab with Bono)
U2, at their core, are designed to be a live spectacle, love them or hate them, few do stadium rock better. Even if their new music is not relevant, their tours are always in the top 3 grossing in any given year that they are touring.
example:
youtube.com
Achtung Baby came out in 1991, only Pretty Hate Machine had been released at that point and AB sounds nothing like it.
this is so spectacular, it's probably the most spectacular thing i've ever seen
astounding
>few do stadium rock better
boring as shit, it's just a testament to how much they could spend.
People don't realize that U2 was genuinely making great music and doing something different with each new album up until the 2000's. They went from Post-Punk to Ambient to Americana to Industrial to Electronic in 10 years and hit it out of the park every time. Then Pop and the Popmart tour both undersold in 1997 because they went too far experimenting with new sounds and then ATYCLB sold a metric fuckton of copies in 2000 so they just stuck to radio friendly rock music. Why U2 gets shit for that and other bands like Foo Fighters who stuck to a similar sound get a pass will never make sense to me. If U2 called it quits in 2000 and just did the Rolling Stones schtick where they just tour and release a single every once in a while they'd be considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time.
I'm sure in a decade or so people will stop hating them because it's cool to hate U2/Bono, kinda like how everyone turned on Dylan in the '80s but ultimately he's rightly considered to be an all-time great.
I think this is a fair summary. I used to be a U2 fan, but it was a long time ago. The ZooTV tour was amazing, I don't know if it would impress people now but I'd never seen anything like it at the time.
Since then, they just aren't very interesting to me. And Bono does need to pay his fucking taxes, its not OK and Randroid "LOL tax is theft dude" need to get their heads out of their asses if they think otherwise.
Zoo TV was mainly EBN, they were a lot of fun

He wasn't from war torn Ireland. The war was in a different country. That was the point.
>Achtung Baby was the first rock album to feature significant influence from electronic dance music
A ridiculous claim. I bought it when it came out and picked up Screamadelica at the same time. Everyone was doing it and had been for a while.
>TONIGHT THANK GOD IT'S THEM INSTTEEEAADDD OF YOOUUUUUUUUU
Yo dude my childhood lmao
Bo NO! 'm I right guys?
...
>the war was in a different country
what
>not understanding the concept of different countries
sheesh
ATYCLB is a bad album with great songs
HTDAAB is a good album but with less great songs
NLOTH is their best album since pop
SOI is fantastic but not as good as NLOTH
Also their four albums, yes four form 90s are better than his 80s
I really respect anyone who can legally get away without paying taxes, but don't be a hypocrite about it and advocate for socialist policies.
Its not even that, Bono has always wrapped himself in the Irish flag. If he feels he has no stake in or loyalty to Ireland, he should say so publicly and fuck off to Monaco (plenty of people have).
More widely, tax evasion is destroying society. Its not the money as much as the feeling that not everyone has to play by the rules. I think to make it fair in the UK for example, we should just decide what the rules really are and if Bono's antics are acceptable, the government needs to offer nurses a scheme where they can be paid via Barbados as well. Oddly the taxman is pretty keen everyone stays on PAYE.
i don't approve of tax avoidance (you said evasion but i'm gonna assume you mean avoidance) but there's nothing stopping nurses forming a cartel and doing it themselves
Say what you want about U2, but this was the logical conclusion to the concept of the arena rock band.

Nobody else came even close to topping this.
Actually he does pay taxes, he pays them to poor countries with minimal standing on the world stage such as Malta, good on Bono for giving his money to countries that really need it
A tax dodging mick who promotes helping the poor but not by his own hand.
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
I think we need to start putting this to the test.
Perhaps take all U2's assets and lock them up.
If there is a problem with doing this, the Maltese government can use its UN security council seat to apply diplomatic pressure or move a carrier fleet into the channel.
