That hole is under your pickguard too. The switch tip fell off and the pickguard warped so bad I took it off. I plan on replacing both of those soon.

Anyone here use very thick strings for their guitars? I needed a "thicker" sixth string for the specific tunings that I use (.56 or .52 gauge apparently).
How do the sound compare to "lighter" gauges? Would it make the sound brighter if I exclusively fingerpick? If I like tapping, would it hinder my tapping abilities? I'm used to "regular" or "light" strings.
Should I worry about my guitar arching if I put thick strings when I used to use "regular" or "slightly thick" gauges? I don't even know what gauges I use, I just know they're not that thick. A luthier already calibrated my 2 guitars some months ago.

You need to adjust the truss rod tension and, if you have a tremolo, the balancing springs. Intonation as well, and possibl the action. In short, if you change string gauges, get the guitar set up if you can't do it yourself. Keep track of which gauges you use. Bending will be harder and sliding will take its toll on your calluses. Tapping shouldn't be more difficult if the guitar is set up properly.
