Just moved to Japan, only channel I can find in English just shows procedural crime dramas

Just moved to Japan, only channel I can find in English just shows procedural crime dramas.

They're killing me.

Pic related, the utter dog shit I'm watching now. Worse than the BBC one?

The BBC one is more overrated, unless you're on here in which case the contrarians act like this one is actually good.

>just moved to japan
>cant speak japanese
hmm

Elementary is cosy as fuck and advanced momcore. Enjoyable with a meal

Shit is tough, negro.

Sherlock is overrated as fuck, yes, but still a better watch than Elementary

Have pizza and asahi... if that counts.

I always found the random films good.

Films of Elementary, or other Sherlock stuff?

BBC Sherlock at least has entertainingly retarded keikakus, it's the reddit-tier lolsoquirky dialogue that makes it bad. Elementary is literally indefensible. It's just shit.

I used to live in Turkey and the only english channel seemed to only play Reba reruns all day. Just watch shit on the internet OP

There was always a horror film at night, and english movies playing, the english movies were so-so.

I stayed in Japan for 3 weeks and the lack of shows killed me. I'm afraid to activate my torrent since I don't know how strict they are regarding piracy.

Am scared of anti-piracy stuff here. Is like well steep sentence and shit.

I'm gonna go crawling back to Netflix, in the market for a large 4K television that has the functionality for it.

Better than BBC version. Britfags can't even make a handful of good episodes pers season even though they have 2 years time to make them.

Watch it though, because the CBS version that you now think is dog shit, will seem like gold to you after you the BBC one.

Not seen the CBS thing, just the Britbong version.
Pretty daft stuff. How does CBS change stuff?

Moriarty is a woman. Natalie Dormer from GOT.

>Am scared of anti-piracy stuff here. Is like well steep sentence and shit.

how does a fucking retard like you end up in japan

Only a retard would move to a country where you can't speak, or read.

Ugh, that woman.

Elementary is dime a dozen trash TV over here famalam. I'm pretty sure they show it on channel 5 during the daytime lmao, nobody watches that shit. Sherlock is retarded and grandiose at time but at least it isn't generic.

I think that I prefer Sherlock from what I just watched, at least it has some form of stylisation, which, as you say, is overly grandiose and more retarded that my moving here, but yeah, certainly more soul to it.

Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson

Natalie Dormer as Irene Adler aka Moriarty

John Noble as Morland Holmes, Sherlock's father who is basically every Dick Cheney CEO war profiteer blood diamond opium smuggling secret billionaire supervillain character you've ever seen

Holmes' father, uhm, lulwat?

Well they have their own take on the Mycroft character already

But the father is basically "what if Mycroft were eeeeeeeeeeevil"

Actually now that I think about it I'm 100% sure they just wanted him to play a very traditional Moriarty but their epin "Sherlock was banging Moriarty all along" plot twist required them to create a new character.

Considering the Elementary crew has to shit out 24 episodes in a few months it's not THAT bad.

Well, honkey-vision is over, just some geezers knocking about on bicycles buying food now.

It starts of pretty shitty, I'd recommend Season 3 onwards. The show has the best interpretation of Anonymous I've seen

UKFag here. Our crime dramas fall into two very distinct camps:

>hardhitting grimdark
Luther, Broadchurch, etc

>sunday lunchtime
A Touch of Frost, Inspector Morse, Poirot, Jonathon Creek, Sherlock etc.

You need to understand what it is you want to do. Sit and eat while watching or concentrate and be absorbed.

Both are viable, which is why we have both.

I prefer Elementary over Sherlock to be honest senpai
It's one of the better procedural crime dramas

OP needs death by 1000 samurai ancestors

Lazy shit wa

I don't have Japanese ancestry, so might difficult desu.

It's such a weird comparison

I understand why it's made because both shows are "we adapted Doyle to the 21st century" but Elementary is basically a low effort inoffensive CSI style show while Sherlock is something so unique and clever and charming that it somehow managed to disappear up it's own asshole, never to be seen again, within the first four episodes

For some prime core Sherlock Holmes watch the 80's british tv versions with Jeremy Brett. Fucking superb tv.

Or go back to Basil Rathbone. Legendary.

I don't mind all these reimaginings. It keeps it fresh. Even the RDJ guy ritchie ones are cool, taken in their own way.

>sherlock

The Russian version is good.

Is that only available in commie or does it have english subs?

>Pic related, the utter dog shit I'm watching now
Elementary is comfycore imo, although it gets repetitive real fucking quick.
That's what you get for moving to a country full of xenophobes who can't be fucked to learn English without knowing how to speak their language I guess.

Watch fucking tokusatsu you fucking retard and enjoy the food

That reminded me to current Batman

>not watching anime while sniffing a girl's panties

>That's what you get for moving to a country full of xenophobes who can't be fucked to learn English without knowing how to speak their language I guess.
Nice meme
They're actually afraid of making a fool of themselves, that's why they prefer not to speak English, even though their writing is well their speaking is hideous, or speaking with foreigners at all, they also, due culture, tend to not show their opinions neither try to change other people's minds, so conversations tend to be pretty boring because they'll always agree with you in front of you (specially if you're on a higher hierarchy than them). They don't dislike foreigners, they actually (on average) love them, except Chinese people, they're dirty, loud and say whatever is in their mind even if it's offensive and Japs hate that.

>except Chinese people, they're dirty, loud and say whatever is in their mind even if it's offensive and Japs hate that.
I see you've been there

>They don't dislike foreigners, they actually (on average) love them, except Chinese people
What about Koreans

Depends, older generations dislike them, new generations are ok with them. I dunno, with Chineses their opinion is much clearer, I think on average they have a positive perspective on Koreans right now.

Same on the Korean side. Most of the young people I met like Japanese culture/people, although they consider them to be kinda weird, although they feel some degree of animosity towards the Japanese government, what with all the warcrime denying and land stealing going on.

Just realized my sentence makes no grammatical sense, hope you got the gist of it tho.

...

>new generations are ok with them.

I don't know any chinese people that will admit they like the japanese. At the most they don't hate them too much and definitely see themselves as superior but from the way they tell it the Japanese are the most arrogant pieces of shit on the planet.

We're talking about Korean/Japaneses, user

>Worse than the BBC one?

This is what britaboos actually believe.

Elementary actually chose to deal with the addiction angle, and it has none of the retarded Sherlock/Watson shipping. Also Sherlock actually figures things out in a believable manner, rather than having him act like a stupid person writes a smart character. It's genuinely better than the BBC version.

>Japanese are the most arrogant pieces of shit on the planet.
Never met a French, did you?

If someone in china wants to charge you 10 dollars for something, offer him 10 cents. This way you will only get overcharged x10

>having him act like a stupid person writes a smart character
Nice, you let pastas dictate your opinions of shows. That's cool.

There was a greentext floating around of an user who had made the mistake of learning mandarin and had to work with Chinese people in steel import. It was a fucking horror story.

haggling is a big part of chinese, indian and southeast asian culture m8

People always post that image without realizing that in ACD's stories SH was written as wizard as well.

pic related

what about outright ripping people off?

Hook me up with this story, please.

>be in Japan
>don't watch unique japanese television
wtf are you doing. Actually why are you inside watching television?

Just because it's pasta does not mean it's not true. BBC Sherlock deducing the password of a man in charge of a top-secret military installation based on some books in his office(also knowing it'd be Maggie rather than Margaret or her full name or whatever) was fucking retarded and only an idiot would think it makes him look believably smart. That's not even touching the whole moriarty-faked-death shit. Doyle's Sherlock was eminently more believable in his deductions and trickery.

Elementary's Sherlock is a completely believable character because he actually employs hackers or other specialists, when he doesn't just use solid smart detector-skills to check the surrounding work-area for a note where the guy might have jotted down his password.

I thought Elementary was going to be completely shit. I thought they changed Watson to a woman so that they could have a will-they-or-won't-they subplot like most procedurals and I thought it'd have your typical American procedural meandering plot with no meaning. But they actually DO explore Sherlock's addiction, where the BBC went PG-13 and joked it away except for some lines here and there. They explore the consequences and effect it has on the characters. It still has some meandering, because you always get that with how many episodes American tv does per season, but it's nowhere near as bad as most procedurals and it gives them time to explore the characters much deeper than the BBC show has managed.

>Not watchin tokukino.

see

Watch Garo, Kamen Rider, Metal Heros, maybe even Sentai though it's too much kid stuff now.

because of the poor legal system in china the way it works is that businesses operate based on reputation and/or who you know
if you buy from a business with a good reputation then it won't be cheap
but if you choose to buy the cheap stuff then you basically get what you paid for like this guy learned the hard way

>Just moved to Japan
fucking gay

It's called being honest nguyen

Dunno about the rest of what you wrote but in that password thing;

I work in an office and LITERALLY EVERYBODY has their passwords usually written down on a post it note stuck to the fucking monitor, or "hidden" under the keyboard stuck to the desk.

No its not just this company either. They all do it. Just like the number one password is "password" or just their first name followed by a number 1.

Nobody takes this shit seriously and it drives me fucking insane.

>about to save this as "do not learn mandarin"
>i already have the file named exactly that

sheesh

Let's not, for a second, pretend that Elementary's SH is believable. That's not even the writers fault, it's just that it is impossible to adapt the character as written by Doyle to current times. However, the closest anybody has come are the writers of House M.D.

post more long rantposts, I love this shit even when it's garbage

BBC Sherlock is basically capefaggotry. He's a superhero, so you don't need to explain shit.

>implying he wasn't a superhero in the books
>implying SH stories weren't a predecessor to comic books

Yeah, that's why it's what Sherlock Holmes would actually look for if he was written today. Because he knows how people generally work, and that they like to have simple passwords or write them down nearby. He doesn't have bullshit mindpalace superpowers that lets him deduce that the guy who should have random passwords of numbers and letters generated new every week has fucking "Maggie", based on the books on the shelf in his office that might as well be decoration because it's a fucking office.

Make it so that he looks at the bookshelf, notices that one book is clearly more personal than the rest, opens it up and finds a post-it with a complicated password scribbled on it because the general can't remember the random military-grade passwords without help. THAT'S believably smart. Knowing that people like to scribble their passwords down and where they'd prefer to hide it. Or make it as simple as the password being the dog's name or birth-years, which again takes deduction and reading the person but doesn't require silly levels of conjecture.

> you don't need to explain shit.
worst is the last special episode they made that's supposed to transition to the next season. Scoobydoo tier ((rational explanation)) and a "oh btw Sherlock has a heroine problem now, oops" finale.

when in rome
nobody's forcing you to shop you know
i don't think there are many developing countries where small businesses don't try to get every dime off you if they could
can they even afford to be honest? i'm not sure

>post it on the monitor
this seems to be international

Elementary's SH is totally believable, when you're used to how characters are usually portrayed. Hell, just look at how many times he actually hires other people to do work for him, like when he needs access to secure accounts and gets hackers or inside-men to get him that info, rather than magically hacking it in a second from his phone.

House was a lot more unbelievable from a medical point of view and a managerial point of view. He got away with way too much shit for it to be believable.

>when you're used to how characters are usually portrayed

In procedurals, I mean.

>House was a lot more unbelievable from a medical point of view and a managerial point of view. He got away with way too much shit
Didn't they TRY to address that by having him exiled to a backwater hospital nobody gives a shit about and constantly butting heads with his direct superior that was in love with him?

And yeah, the thing about Miller's Sherlock is... he's fallible. Still incredibly brilliant but has enough blind spots and even makes mistakes every once in a while to show he really couldn't do it all alone.

Also Elementary is one of the few Sherlock depictions to nail "Watson is still legitimately in the top 10% of the smartest people in the country but it's just comparing an excellent amateur boxer to time traveling versions of prime Mike Tyson and Mohammed Ali fused together into a cyborg"

Yeah, Cuddy was the sole reason House had a job at all. Nobody else would touch him.

Yeah he's utterly brilliant at his job, but he's an arrogant petulant prick with it. Plus Wilson is on the hiring board so there's that too.

House was great when he was that petulant egomaniacal loner. The second he became the loveable scamp the show started slipping.

>Elementary's SH is totally believable
You mean the part where one man outsmarts the whole new york police department? Or the part where high profile crimes nowadays aren't solved by teams of detectives interviewing suspects, watching camera footage and matching DNA but by an eccentric hipster using the fallible method of deduction? Or the part where even if one man would be capable of dismantling entire criminal organizations on his own he would be still alive?

Compare that to House who is just a great doctor with an exceptional memory using the method of deduction(which doesn't work in real life as well as it is shown in shows and books may I repeat). But at least it is established that he has actually fucked up in the past and killed people and lost jobs.

Which one seems more believable to you?

Add to that the fact that House also has a department staffed with literally the cream of the crop diagnosticians. Experts in their chosen fields.

House even tells them they're better than him in their specialities. Which is the reason he hired them.

>You mean the part where one man outsmarts the whole new york police department?
He been shit on and belittled by profilers(Criminal Mind guys) saying how he's just doing what they do and is really no better
At least this Holmes can't tell if someone wife is pregnant by the way he's standing or tell what software someone codes by their tie/thumb.

House was a great show... for a while

You forgot Anomalous as your friendly neighbourhood Deus Ex Machina

>I stayed in Japan for 3 weeks and the lack of shows killed me.

>go to Japan
>spend your days inside lamenting about the lack of TV shows to watch

go outside you fuck, how can anyone be THIS pathetic

reeeee

>implying those guys aren't the most realistic anonymous expy on telly

>they are watered down tho, they asked for shoe on head and set a password as 1337 (kekeroo)

EVERYONE.

Faggot.

They're just oldfags.

I'd love to watch that show actually, sounds fun.

BBC Sherlock is for the "iPhone generation."
That's not really a slur, just an observation.

Everything has to be "witty" and "snappy" like some Joss bloody Whedon script. You can't go fiove seconds without a one-liner and a quick wink to the camera at how clever everything is.

It's good TV. Don't get me wrong. Watch it while eating dinner.

>Not wanting Molly to cup your balls and ask you to cough.

Why suffer existence?

>go to Japan
>watch things in English
Immerse yourself, bitch. Go full weeaboo.

>Or the part where high profile crimes nowadays aren't solved by teams of detectives interviewing suspects, watching camera footage and matching DNA but by an eccentric hipster using the fallible method of deduction?

He breaks up into teams to interview suspects and employs specialists (hackers, dataminers, forgery experts, scientists, historians) all the time.
Time spent of him and Watson watching camera footage actually happens very frequently.

Get fucked weeb.

>itt: Lazy OP can't be bothered to learn the language
>wants to be attended to regardless

Bet you fifty bucks you're an american.

Yeah but why can't the police do all of that themselves.
