it is simple.
Much cruel reality of the world is hidden from us. It is both a morbid fascination with death (often by teenager wishing death or questioning their existence and life).
But equally, the fascination with the cruelty of a moment. Transporting themselves into "how it would feel to die" or "seeing someone die".
In our culture it is so hidden and sterilized it causes fascination, in the same way sex is hidden from public sight and caused fascination or even obsession.
Next to that, it generates an emotional jolt by the cruelty. So some probably are trying "to feel something" or have an emotional response to these images to feel "something" or "feel alive".
