And is that a MULTIMEDIA PC??

old enough to still be shitting up the internet on a gateway pc and 56k modem

Damn dude. Family had that exact setup.

9. Playing Starcraft BW everyday.

aol 4.0 was the best

Was born 98

Back when a PC could've cost a person $800-1000 but every manufacturer added in printers, speakers, mics, antivirus, etc.

PC really lucked out the following 2-4 years that some neckbeards wanted to make their own.

17/18

>implying PCs then werent less than $800
>implying PCs today arent more than $800
>implying luck has anything to do with anything

15, playing the fuck out of Half Life Deathmatch with my friends

>60

16-17 in highshool.

mIRC would still be a thing as other ways of communication emerged.

I'd be in chat rooms and still writing to penapals. Looking for free passwords to get into porn websites. Meeting people in the third world was cool because only daughters of presidents and stuff had internet.

Id be downloading a single porn video for hours just to save it to my PC. Big mouse, big keyword. I had the first scanner from my friends, and the first jet ink printer - they'd be envious.

Because it was pre-9/11 eveyone was goodie goodie with everyone on the internet. It was about making friends or visiting a website. It wasn't a necessity like breathing, homework or finding whores. It was like this novelty.

One time I read during those years the internet in "the future" would be invisible or come out of the walls, and would be accesible everywhere -- even in the fucking toilet. I was mesmerized, I thought I would push a button and from the wall a 90s computer monitor would appear. Silly me.

Saving porn on 3.5 diskettes or floppy, or just printing them and making a secret stash. Finding good porn was so rare, my popularity at highschool skyrocketed at how easy I could find strange porn.

It was a new frontier indeed -- and for a teenager like me it was amazing. The little silly noise when one would connect to the Internet was like the welcoming anthem to a silly playful virtual world. We were pioneers. We never imagined what it would turn out to be.

>I had the first scanner from my friends, and the first jet ink printer
the actual cool kids had a CD burner and would sell bootleg cds for $5-10.

>Saving porn on 3.5 diskettes or floppy

me too man, I was playing ocarina of time on new years eve when it turned year 2000.

Old enough for porn. I was 13 in 98' and 14 in 99'. Those were the good old days...Life had no meaning, and the rest of your life lay before you; like an infinite expanse. Now a days, your life has no meaning...

its cute how you kids think you know anything

Nice dubs.

Also CD burner was a big hassle for me. When mp3 technology rolled on 99, I went straight to buying this huge bulky mp3 player by the end of the year. With a brick-like memory card.

What you describe never caught up were I live as such.

We did however hacked this email once, everyone in class submitted the same paper. And this guy could deliver this kind of hacks, but not CDs -- we were in highschool not elementary.

OVER 9000

5/6 respectively.

lol how was it a hassle? where the fuck did you live, somolia?

Fuck yes mate, pre-millennium internet was great. I got so much e-tail on ICQ. Still wish I could look up my old contact list... Alas, I can't remember my number.

I was 16-17 too.

24 in '99

you would hit up girls you never met 20 years later? for what, retard? as if any of them look into icq 20 years later
> hey!!! remember me??? i'm icq 6464635
> uh no

Please impart your wisdom old sir.

> "the west" is so bad during my lifetime
> what an amazing coincidence

not that guy but oldfag here.

back then there were huge hassles with devices/os compatibility.
drivers and jump settings were a bitch
Windows was ALOT less organized back then
hardware vendors played by their rules and Microsoft played by a different set of rules.

this is why the pre-built computers became popular. Gateway was one and I believe they had a strong relationship with Microsoft.

but ya, plug and play was jokingly referred to plug and pray back then

10 or 11. Man...id do anything to go bsck. I had 3 best friends in my neighborhood. Played outside, played vidya, and our families vacationed and did shit together.

honestly I have no idea what youre talking about. i bought a no name budget 16x cd/cdrw drive from office max and installed it into my win 98 HP desktop and it was easy as fuck and worked fine. also had all sorts of peripherals that never had any driver/compatibility issues

1

No. You didn't install a cdrw drive into a Vectra in 98/99

8 or 9

true, ive never even heard of vectra until now. but computer/tech companies came and went by the 1000s in the late 90s. i remember when my fam got a smith-carolina word processor in like '94 and it was the coolest thing ever, though needed earplugs when printing something

Your underage is showing. You can get a full Windows pc for a few hundred today. You couldn't get a desktop/monitor or laptop for less than $800.

Adults are talking here, go away.

I was 14

lol no need to get upset because you get called out on your stupid post, did you even read it yourself? the entire post is pointless. youre basically just stating that things back then cost money just like things today. and yes, you easily could easily get a full pc setups for under $800 in the late 90s, i know this from personal experience from actually having some. now you know also, youre welcome.

It's something.

'member Stileproject?

12-13, enjoying my n64 I used to pack in my backpack because parents worked late back then so I had to spend time after school with about 100 other kids in middle school.

I started a trend playing smash bros and rush 2049's battle mode... so eventually this rich cunt brought his dreamcast and his friend brought ps1 and tekken 3.

what else was I doing...... u got me started, cant stop this train.
>dad had just pre-ordered a compaq PC and got the new road runner 128k cable internet
>friend in school used to bring floppy's with midi's on them, some pretty good 16bit quality. almost like ripped straight from snes.... almost.
>dad gave me his old win95 pc "for school only" in my room
>installed AOL 4.0 and netnanny to block me from things my child eyes should not see
>could bypass net nanny by making alt AOL log-in and give it admin controlls (u could limit screen names back then, like u can with windows now)
> wav, .wma, quicktime, shockwave..... anytime a pornsite offered a 15sec sample that was the size of this default reply box was enough time for some lotion and tissue paper.

in 1998 i was a 3000 year old cyborg ninja who only spoke jamaican

bill gates was the president of the world

the united states of america just defeated mexico

and pokemon was barely a thing

Some shit was pretty expensive sometimes though. The first retail video cards were like $1200. I remember having an external HD in like '86 that was worth as much as a low-end vehicle.
I got to write my connection off, but it was like $3k a month to run a bunch of servers when multiplayer started becoming a thing.

couldn't care less

I had a Gen 1 iMac that I got in October of 1998. I was 14 years old at the time. The whole all in one "it just works" Apple appeal was MUCH stronger back then. PCs were much bigger pieces of shit. I got it as I was starting high school and my friends went the PC route and I remember they had breaks and other issues by the time we were juniors.

Computers are much better today. That 1998 iMac was about $1500, which adjusting for inflation is about $2300 today. That computer was Apple's absolute entry level machine and was hundreds of dollars cheaper than the next step up. A mid grade power mac was $2700 then (about $4100) and the high grade powermac was $3000 ($4500 today).

A huge appeal was the problems were far fewer. PCs had major day to day issues back then.
