Problem isn't cost. I am a software engineer, so I have the money. The problem is now I'm fat (or, fatter; I was a fat kid, too), and I don't have a lot of free time.
Working on the weight. Maybe when I finish getting into shape, I'll go to a scenario game once a year.

the good news is that the heavier you are the easier it is to lose weight. an exercise bike at 16mph for 30 minutes burns like 500cal. an hour a day and you can't help but shed weight.

Good thing about paintball is weight isn't much a disadvantage. Just let the ones capable of running and sliding do the work and you keep rear and do rear support. But hey that's what most of the old guys do, real life combat or any jobs or paintball.

depends what you are doing. speedball or woodsball is better than airsoft. scenarios and sim are better played with airsoft.

it's more than nostalgia. it's that they are highly customizable, offer lots of things to tinker with like timing, are in limited supply and represent the golden era of paintball. modern guns are too good. basically they are everything today's paintball guns are not. nothing to customize, nothing to tinker with and no problems to fix. take them out of a box and they work flawlessly forever. it's just no fun.

It was fun, but shit's expensive for no fucking reason.
I tried airsoft, but I could barely feel it hitting me sometimes (especially in the rain, when I wore a pretty thick coat). People kept blaming me for cheating when I didn't even know. With paintball, I could feel every god damn hit, and tagged out immediately.

I used to work at a place and play speedball years ago competitively, thought the game would blow up to a big time sport but it has gone downhill the past 8 years or so. Way too expensive; my whole paycheck would go back into the place.

Don't doubt that. When electronic guns came on the field it changed things. You had fat dudes camping in some bunker controlling a few boxes. The running and movement tactics took a side line to whoever could spend more money.

There used to be an underground de facto paintball scene in my town where they'd play at like 2-4 in the morning around abandoned sites.
It was dangerous and shady but it was a lot more fun than any other kind of paintball I've played, and mag fed makes it all the better.
