Memories of Murder is still the best

The Chaser is the best

Mother, The Chaser, The Wailing, A Hard Day

I Saw the Devil is fucking SHIT. I'm getting sick of seeing Koreaboos recommend it alongside actual good movies.

In any case, post your favorite korean movies.

Secret Sunshine was fucking great. Absolutely crushing, but great.

Second this.

god tier

A Bittersweet Life is very good

I literally LITERALLY broke down in tears after this film.

Why are Koreans so good at making me cry?

I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the worst Korean movie I've ever seen.

A complete nonsensical premise used to justify 2.5 hours of well-shot torture porn. The worst part is when the Killer comes for police chief which makes the protagonist *extra special mad*.

It's a movie that asks the facile question "can the petty need for revenge be used to justify a bunch of collateral damage". The only surprising part of the whole piece of shit is that it seems to imply "yes".

I'm sorry to hear that you lack testicles.

Did you make it to the ending? Because that is clearly not implied.

I Saw The Devil is really fucking bad, definitely one of the worst Korean films I've seen.

Koreans also make the best porn. Surprising considering its banned or something.

I dunno, they really like their melodrama. Gonna have to watch what you posted.

First time I actually just sat and cried after a film. Something in it just hit the spot, man.

Check this guy's list:

Just saw Chan Wook Park's The Handmaiden
Awesome.

Lists are ok, some I disagree with, but some I haven't seen, so I guess it's still some more stuff to watch.

I'm planning on seeing Handmaiden tomorrow, surprised to find there's a place showing it really close by.

hes so hot tho

Both are correct.

This is a load of garbage.

Nope.

The Yellow Sea is a thousand times better. And The Man From Nowhere still holds up after second viewing.

Park chan wook is a hack and the handmaiden is good looking garbage

I got memed into watching this after the Wailing (goat). It's a good but not great first film with tonnes of flaws.

Nothing Korean comes close to a Koreeda film.

The website as a whole is great. Some really great stuff.

Hack is a pretty strong word. Park is 'tonally challenged', perhaps, but I think works to The Handmaiden's benefit. It's not a great film, by any means, but devilishly enjoyable (in ways that its pinku eiga inspirations aren't to me personally). I would agree that he hasn't made a "great" film yet. But then again, I like I'm a Cyborg, but that's OK, so admitting that probably invalidates my opinion....

If you want to arbitrarily compare completely, culturally unrelated filmmakers, I might say Lee Chang Dong would be the closest to Kore-eda. I didn't really care for Secret Sunshine, but Oasis, Poetry, Peppermint Candy - all solid films.

It's a decent movie but there's better ones out there.
I'll throw A Dirty Carnival and Castaway on the Moon.

this desu. was a good revenge flick until he let the dude go. Worst thriller I've seen in a long time.

agree on A Dirty Carnival
was super impressed by this when I saw it; Korea has A LOT of gangster movies - A Bittersweet Life is the usual choice, but I like this one

ULTIMATE CHINK LIST:

Chaser > old Boy(you only hate it cause its memed 2death) > memories of murder > I saw the devil

Surprised no one's mentioned
My Sassy Girl
yet
It's a bloated blog-to-screen mess, but it's also
a Korean New Wave rom-com CLASSIC

I thought New world was pretty fucking dope.

Oldboy is my favorite movie of all time. Chaser is so fucking tense, I seriously can't think of another thriller that got me as nervous as it did

seconding memories of murder and chaser
getting away from violence/revenge which dominates these threads, ill ad 3-iron, castaway on the moon and spring summer fall winter and spring

>A Hard Day
This nigga knows what's up.

im trying to remember a movie that involves a detective with a sick daughter living abroad who is investigating some murders
the twist at the end is that one of the murdered, dismembered bodies he performed an autopsy on is his daughter
I remember it wasnt that good but now its bothering me

No Mercy

pink nipples[/spoiler}

thanks, thats it

Sympathy for mr. vengeance is probably the best korean film I've seen and I've seen a lot of korean film.

From Korean films I have seen so far I saw the devil, Memories of murder, Chaser, Yellow sea and Confessions of murder.
I liked them all really really much, what are some other Korean crime movies I might like?

agreed

Great fucking movie. I had a horror thread going. Keep it there; horror fans are the cavier of cinema enthusiasts.

Start horror generals. They have them for lame fucking shows that aren't even on anymore; we can do it with horror.

Start /horror/ gens and I'll be in there along with all the horror fans sick of fucking superhero costumes, dumbass tv shows, and all the other horseshit that chokes this board with an ever-increasing thickening foul garbage.

Nah man, nah. It's well done torture/revenge porn and not much else

This.

Yikes, the IMDBdrone is strong ITT. Even the counter arguments are straight from there. Sage shit

>mfw we didn't get to see her nood

THICC

Source? Name? Other pics?

I think I might have enjoyed Park's Vengeance movies better than oldboy, but then again maybe it is because the memed2death reason and the fact it's been a really long time since I have seen it.
I don't get why people say it's mediocre. Bittersweet Life was great imqho.

Where do I find this korean pornkino?

>no one mentioned JSA yet

What the fuck guys.
