From my perspective it blows s1 out of the water but it was always going to have far narrower appeal than the first season.

Not very good, sometimes bizarrely/poorly written, but always entertaining.

THIS IS MY LEAST FAVORITE LIFE

Children: Season 1

Mature Alpha Male: Season 2

The actual plot was too boring and confusingly delivered for me to care about but I enjoyed the actors (other than gaycop) and every scene with Farell and his son was hilarious. Especially the shit with the shoes in the first episode and how he liked to watch Friends.

it was great

S1 shitters need not apply, it went from fantastic to mediocre somewhere around the middle

This. Season 2 is God tier. Perfect for drinking on a Sunday after a long week just settle on the sofa and see Ray and his struggles with life. Frank tried too hard but was decent character. Annie a shit
Gay homo cop was pretty decent too bad what happened

shoes?

Season 1 was like a shitty open world game that seems exciting at first because of all the possibilities but then you realize that it really has to offer you is the boring caves filled with fodder enemies and a sword that you need need and also it was just the green ears gardener and then you can never go back to it again.

I also found the plot and characters to be a bit confusing sometimes, I was thinking that I might be retarded. Glad someone else had problems with it.
Also the Vince Vaughns ending was stupid, he wanted to die before giving up his suit?

>a main mystery that is literally nonsense
>muh impotence
>muh cuckness
>muh gayness
>muh rape-as-backstoryness
>turns it out it was a conspiracy revolving around fucking diamonds like this is a Roger Moore 007 movie or something
>"Caspere"
>"Caspere"
>Russians
>stupid dream sequence like the writer saw Twin Peaks when he was 13 and thought he could do better
>LAND DEAL
>BLACK MOUNTAIN
>an even shittier reason to do another epik gunfight sequence than season 1

It was a clusterfuck of nothingness and people who claim to like it are just contrarians.
Season 1 at least started well, even if it had a shit ending.
Season 2 was shit the whole time.

Farell playing a depressed cuck type character is absolute kino.

Ending of s1 was really shitty I give you that.
>le retarded incest man

dropped it about halfway through, it's like they saw that people liked the edginess of the first season so they went overboard with the grimdarkness and it became a parody of itself.

He was a good character, but he was in a shitty story and there being THREE other main characters took away from his arc. Not to mention his ending was stupid.

>"they put a tracker on my car!"
>"they're after me!"
>doesn't just pull into some public place and steal a car
>doesn't just drive somewhere with actual cops
>drives into the woods to make a final stand

Hilarious.

Pretty much nailed it

i would not say it was too confusing or that there was stuff left unanswered/motivations unexplained
then again i am an autist and constantly analyze what's happening
the reason he did not want to give them the jacket was the diamonds, aka all he had left were inside, plus obviously, he had some ego issues
s2 was great, such a nice microcosm to watch

Also, visiting his kid in the first place. Like the cops will search for a wanted man everywhere except where his family is.

I felt sort of bad for Farell. He probably went into this thinking he was going to get all of the credibility that McConaughey got coming out of season 1.

>The actual plot was too boring and confusingly delivered for me to care about

Do you have the attention span of a 13-year old?

>it was another random side character who appeared for 40 seconds that "did it"
>except this time it happens with five different characters

Oh shit, didn't think about those. He was the only character I gave a shit about really. Farrell was made into such a pathetic cuck he wasn't even likeable. Rust was always likeable despite him turning into a drunk.

did you miss the part where velcoro is, uh, pretty suicidal? the whole time?
>actual cops
he is currently being framed for shooting of the gaybro cop and knows his protection is not really guaranteed anywhere
seems to me more and more like people who try to shit on s2 based on supposed plotholes or retarded character behavior really lack the capacity to grasp this (rather simple) story

It was pretty shit. In hindsight there was nothing to it but they delivered it in the most convoluted way possible and there was nothing that made me invested in the mystery.

>Shitty confusing story
>only 1 out of the 4 main characters were good
>didn't even know who the antagonists were, since they appear for like 5 minutes in 1 episode before the finale
>bad directing at times, like the shootout
It was just bad outside of Colin Ferrell's character, and even that had shitty writing a lot of the time.

They made it that way to make it seem edgier than it already was. Prove me wrong.
>le complex multifold corruption drama

>What did people like about Season 1?
>People loved Rust being miserable and talking philosophical bullshit
>Ok, for Season 2, let's give the people what they want.
>Let's have 3 main characters and they're all Rust. But make them sadder.
>Should we have a lighthearted character like Marty?
>No, everyone is always serious and always miserable
Good Job Pizza.

season 2 being bad is just a shit meme

It's not as good as season 1, but it's still great t
Velcoro might have been the best character in the series

>m-muh gay pics

Can we agree that True Detective season 1 is an unremarkable piece of writing with a flatline ending that was elevated by the performances and cinematography? It was a good show but seeing people list it in the top 5 shows of all time always makes me cringe.

>they went overboard with the grimdarkness and it became a parody of itself.
This

Fucking everyone has the most tragic backstory.
It was like they tried to one up each other with shitty life stories

>My parents were hippies and also I was raped
>Oh yeah? Well my wife was raped and now I'm raising the rape baby. And he's a fat pussy
>Well I'm a suicidal PTSD vet with an abusive mother and I have major gay repression
>Psh, that's nothing. Once I was locked in the dark for weeks and I had to eat rats

After rewatching some of the episodes recently, it's fucking comfy.

he had already ripped off all the content he could from Ligotti in season 1 and had nowhere to go

>Awards were lost
>No season three

Tfw I'm basically this guy but don't dress up like a badass cowboy and am not a cop.

Ask Casper, he knew that.

>supposed plotholes

it's not a "plothole" that the plot was about children who stole diamonds from corrupt cops, it's just stupid and not interesting, especially the way it was delivered

They could've excised Vince Vaughn and Gaybike and focused, again, on TWO detectives solving some weird convoluted mystery, with more focus on the elements of the mystery instead of a crime kingpin having a fucking fist fight with a fat mexican or a dude being embarrassed about being a fag in 2014 or 2015 or whenever the shit came out. The other fucking gay merc man even said how stupid it was, and then the British actor pretending to be American says "He was just a fag, Ray" or whatever to Ray on the phone like this is some 1983 hardboiled cop movie which was totally out of place. They could've had Ani just be a slutty, aggressive bitch because she grew up with a shitty hippy dad, instead of the oh-so-original tactic of childhood rape being the cause of all her problems. They could've done something actually sinister with that rich man sex party instead of like having PG-13 sex happening in the background and then have the only girl who looked like she was in trouble say "fuck you, I love my job". They could've set it in a more appropriate time period to have corruption on that scale, instead of modern day where it barely makes sense.

Clearly Pizzolato or however you spell it bought his own hype and thought he could do it again, but he couldn't, at least not without a good director, which they also didn't have for season 2, they had one of the Fast & Furious directors and then a bunch of other random fuckers instead of one cohesive director.

Had potential but ended up mediocre in pretty much every way.

For the whole time it felt like they wanted to do a story of Varrell and Faughn on different sides of law and explore the relationship but had to plaster it with diamond dozen gay and tough chick because they were afraid of the feminist blogger backlash they got after the first season and decided to ruin the second season as a result.

I just wish it wasn't so fucking depressing. Especially gay cops final moments. He should have lived imo. I understand Ferrals character dying. He kind of had to. But gaycop was a real warrior and would have liked to see him live. Felt like a waste

THIS IS MY LEAST FAVORITE LIFE

The way they offhandedly killed off gaycop just made me wonder why they decide to include that character at all. It wasn't like No Country For Old Men where the death of the protagonist was intentionally unsatsifying it just made all of his previous scenes feel like a waste of time because they never went anywhere with him.

>rich man sex party
kek had forgotten about that

>rich men pay whores to have sex and even give them free drugs
>empowered feminist chick kills them for that
>we're supposed to root for her

>literally threatens to call INS or whatever on the chick she "rescued" because she wants to go back

Most probably the most fun I've ever had watching a season. It was pretty mediocre with flashes of potential here and there but finishing an episode and then going online and seeing how confused people were by the plot was top notch. Vinceposting was great and Velcro is most probably my favourite tv cop ever. Also watching Sup Forums nearly implode when we all thought we were going to see McAdams tits at that party was also pretty great.

Peta Jensen was amazing too.

too convoluted and poorly told to surpass the first season. when it began to get lynchian i was very excited but that faded almost as quickly as it happened.

characters and plot werent engaging enough and fell pretty flat for the most part. Landholdings, realestate and rich businessmen stealing arent a winning combination for a cop drama mystery.

vinceposting was great, however because it took skill to do well, but it was ruined by those without skill

for fucking real though, why did the green eared man not wear ear protection? like someone who does groundskeeping for a living would wear?

Peta Jensen is amazing but she was only in that episode for approximately 11 seconds.

>the rich man sex party mansion episode is about to air
>think Ani watching porn and talking about cocks was foreshadowing
>think the casting of pornstars meant actual crazy sex
>NOPE.jpg
>she just gets high and walks down a hallway and remembers she got raped

Landholdings, real estate and rich businessmen are fucking great for a crime mystery and the staples of film noir. You just have to do it well.

>first episode makes things seem occult with a crazy murder left in a ritualistic manner
>further amplifies this idea later by having the killer wear a crow mask
>nah lol, it's just regular revenge and he wore the mask because it there and he thought it was cool

Don't forget the part where he drove Caspere's body around town all day like some Weekend at Bernie's shit

I liked it. Bit of a slow burn until the last 2 episodes (but that's fine) and certain choices seemed like knee-jerk reactions to Season 1 complaints but overall I really enjoyed the characters more than anything.

...

which s2 did not do

Yes that was the point.

>Never do anything out of hunger. Not even eating
What did he mean by this?
