The reason I'm asking is because my retarded country is buying 12 fighting planes, and they decided to buy F 16 Barack. They said those are better planes. Don't much about the Gripen but I do know it's expensive and I think it can only carry a less commonly used air to air missile. The F- 16, is cheap, plenty of parts and has a good service record. Over to /vg/ and look for a thread called Simulation General or simg. Ask there.

The Gripen is a rather good aircraft. The US/Lockheed have made it difficult to procure because it possibly threatened their monopoly.
Assuming you're talking about Croatia, the Israeli F-16s they're buying are probably cheaper but have some Israeli upgrades that make them better value.

Those F-16s from Israel are 30 to 50 years old, even with capital overhaul they are still old and unreliable. On the other hand Gripens usually come with an offset program, meaning that the money you spend on them will be partially reinvested in your countries industry. Further more, Hungary and the Czech republic already have the Gripen in service, Slovakia is also in he cards for replacing their old Mig-29s with Gripen and thanks to this, Saab seriously considers investing in a maintennce hub in the region, which would make your Gripen also more practical to maintain. Your polititians are just kissing US ass, exactly like the romanian politicians who bought third-hand F-16 block 15s from Portugal and AMARC. In the long term you will spend much more money on spare parts than with the Gripen.

what I've heard gripen is best value during peacetime. If you're in a war and need the best right now then gripen might not be for you but if you're just worried about putin then gripen will be cheaper but still reliable in the long run.

The F-16 is a solid, capable multi role. It has been established as a easily maintained and has a wide variety of arms and armaments. It can also be adapted to take on weapons from other countries very easy. The SAAB is a specialist aircraft almost exclusively used for fighters or air superiority.
