Why do you insist on knocking on my front door at 8:00 am on a Saturday?

Yeah, he's our Lord and Savior and he died for our sins.

This place is poison to you, leave.

To bring you the good news that Christ influence is on the earth again, and your sins can be forgiven. It's not to early to wake up for that I hope.

Hey, girl. Are you the sword of Laban? 'Cause you are exceedingly fine.

Mormons are not Christian. Joseph Smith was a known liar and the bible itself proves all Mormon teachings to be false. I pray you get Saved.

Why that shitty Christianity fanfic though? There's zero reason for any Christian to be Mormon.

Soon to be Catholic here, when can we purge you heretics like we purged the Cathars?

The way I see it, Jesus hung out with whores, called Jerusalem a whore, and was in some sense his own dad. I'm pretty much where I'm supposed to be.

Both Joseph and Jesus were hated and killed by the Pharisitical Religious leaders of their times. Both were righteous men who did good works.

>when can we purge you heretics like we purged the Cathars?
Soon, brother. Soon.

You tried already, it didn't work out so well.

Except for in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we have the correct authority to baptize, and administer the ordinances needed for salvation. We hold the power of God, and it's important for those ordinances to be done.

Hey girl, are you a gadianton robber cause you just stole my heart

He didn't go wander into the whorehouse and say "hey everybody look at me".

Nothing good can come of you being here, and deep down you know that.

Well, I'm doing missionary work to those who need it most. It's a reminder to those who revel in the darkest places that there is light in the world. There is repentance and I'm happy to try to share that to whoever will listen.

Oh and also the fight threads are pretty cool sometimes

any thoughts/knowledge about the mountain meadows massacre, joseph smith's sketchy past as a conman, the church refusing to give black people the priesthood until they were expanding into regions with higher black populations, and ezra taft benson's clear senility while he was supposedly speaking to god?

ex-mormon here and wondering if you were unaware of this stuff or you accept it

Those are all valid points that you bring up. I'm not knowledgeable enough about the early days of the church to argue those points yet, but I know that there are counter arguments that are very smart which rebuff those arguments. And yes there are counter arguments to those as well. And even more counter arguments after that. My father is a Mormon Chaplain in the military and he studied all those things in college. He is satisfied, and so long as I know arguments are out their, I'm content.

*there, sorry about that

I'm human, and I always have my doubts, but for now I will lean to the side of faith.

fair enough. i'm always curious to see if/what loyal members know about the church's past because the church definitely likes to completely erase that stuff. good for you for weighing that stuff out. a lot of people in my ward told me to stop looking into the church's history, which i was totally uncool with.

And now there are more of us! Hello :D

OP, you're pretty brave coming here. Hope you're prepared.

Yeah, something I'm upset with in the church is the total lack of discussion into the controversial parts of our past. Many members are unaware that Yes, Joseph did have more than one wife. Its uncomfortable topics like that which are never tackled in open discussion at church. We are to uplift and edify each other, and I see very little of that happening in church meetings.

Have you ever tried to shoot your cock with a shotgun while wearing your special Morman underwear? Just for keks

Yes, it's important to focus on faith, but I want to learn about the apostles apostitizing and why they did it. People are too afraid of conflict and it's something that I want to work to change in the church. We can debate and still be one in purpose as a church. I just wish more people could see it.

Yeah, I tried it once. Circumcision is no joke bois.

Not OP but am also LDS and in the same boat. The church likes to pretend that everything is shiny and nice, and even though it's a terrific organization, like any organization it has some dodgy parts in its history. It'd be much better, imo, if the Church just owned up and addressed the issues everyone has up-front.

To everyone else (i.e. non-LDS) in case you're wondering, we don't have a concept similar to Papal Infalibility. Our leaders, though they may operate with the best intentions, are just as imperfect as pretty much anyone else. Understanding that, I still have no problems remaining a member whatsoever.

yeah the whole "satan is behind anything critical against the church" thing is a cop out. i guess the issue is that admitting mistakes means that the prophet was misleading the church, which means that god was misleading the church (???)

idk maybe god doesn't talk to the prophet 24/7? not sure how that works, but i digress. i think the church should be more accepting of criticism, but i also think acceptance of criticism might not coincide with an institution led by god. it'd be cool if more wards were having these discussions though.

just read your post after posting myself. if that's the case then i definitely do think there's less of a contradiction, and i think the church would be a better place if it could own up to its past and take more input from below

why fuck so many women?

Magic glasses...wtf. please explain these.

How many virgins have you raped at the hand of your scientologist masters?

Nope. But a large proportion of us (in the US at least) pretty well-armed. Ever gone to /k/ and watch people drooling over their Brownings? Those were /ourguys/.

That's one way to look at it. If Christ is the head of the church using imperfect tools which make mistakes, that problem is kinda cleared up but not all the way. If more people could discuss this, I think the church would be in a better place, but those are just some of my thoughts. Anyways, OP signing off. God speed anons.

Nvm, post blew up

If you're referring to the practice of polygamy, some believe it was to increase church population, as well as to take care of the many sisters who had come to join the church. Once it wasn't nessesary and the United States was against it, it was in the churches best interest to stop the practice for a time.

oh so you want to dominate the world

The Urim and Thumum were two rocks with holes in the middle that Joseph Smith used as glasses of a sort in order to translate the Book of Mormon. They were used for receiving prophecies as well. Seer stones are interesting too, as they can provide knowledge and revelations to the user, and the user will be struck down if they try to find something they aren't supposed to. I like to think of them as Google glasses, and iPhones, God edition.

Not really sure how to respond to this one. None?

id like for everyone in the world to have the gift of the Holy Ghost and know they can repent.

yes fill me with the holy spirit. I wish to repent for my sins

you should try engaging with your ward on this issue then! i think it'd be a good start.

also out of curiosity what are your political leanings and what do you know about the law of consecration? i'm a marxist and i thought this church policy was kinda cool. i know most mormons are really conservative but this is, in a lot of ways, pretty leftist stuff. nothing like liberation theology, but still cool.

What's the deal with airline food?

Sigh...

King David
King Solomon

Just to name the two most obvious examples.

tl;dr we used to for a short while a very long time ago. Not anymore though. Also, it's illegal in the vast majority of countries, anyway.

Urim and Thummim. Seer stones. They appear in Exodus. The High Priest has them on the ephod.

If you want to understand LDS ceremonies and concepts, read the Old Testament. Most, if not all of the basis for them are there. Most of this stuff isn't new, it's just that people these days focus way too much (in my opinion) on the New Testament, almost ignoring the Old Testament entirely. And then when they come across the LDS church,

Zero. That's illegal. One of the churches' founding principles is "obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law."

>scientology
topkek.

In as nice a way as possible, yes, kind of.

You can contact missionaries through
www.lds.org

No you don't.
This is heresy.

There’s a Mormon Church me and my friend skate at. We rip your curbs and probably disturb people. Thoughts?

Yeah, the whole idea of the law of consecration is pretty interesting. In mortality, I think that socialism/communism doesn't work because governments become corrupt. In our church though, we believe that this corruption if any cannot last, and that through the eternities, we'll be led by God himself, making the government incorruptible. For now, I'm very much for democracy because it is the best government we can have right now, but in an ideal situation, the law on concecration where all is owned by an benevolent government and resources are practically infinite (and even if not), it would be a good system.

Strike me down, and I'll be come more powerful than you could ever imagine, just like the Ammonites

That's pretty dope dude, we do have some lit parking lots

assuming you're serious (which you have to admit, here on Sup Forums, is far from a given), sincerity is required. Being LDS ain't no picnic, even with the jeering and derision from pretty much everyone else (but that's ok, we're pretty used to that :D), it requires dedication.

Come skate at my ward building anytime you like. The curbs are all made of granite. Have fun torturing your board.

But seriously, we probably don't even notice, much less care.

No man granite is so fucking nice on our metal trucks. Also heard you guys let women until the big building and they can’t say what goes on inside. A little suspicious?...

1. what is your legitimate opinion on mountain meadow

2. what the christ is up with LDS get togethers, why are all foodstuffs from cans?

3. What's up with that creepy ass bull alter in the back room of your temple?

Alright, for reals, 4% battery. OP is out. If you have any more questions, you can contact your local missionaries at www.lds.org
God bless you anons.
I have faith that we will all find peace someday.

>This is heresy.
You might want to take a leaf out of /ourguy/, Based Gamaliel's book - Acts 5.

If it really is heresy, it'll disappear on its own, no need for intervention. If not, though... Well, I mean, people have already tried to get rid of "Those Dern Mormons" and as OP said, it didn't go so well. 30,000 congregations, 70,000 missionaries, and memberships in almost every country on earth... we're doing alright.

Ama...sigh. sorry to upset you oh great Mormon. I was thinking about this David Cross joke about "magic glasses" but then urim and thumum are also the name of stone's from the alchemist. Oh what great webs we weave.
