I think Hammerheart is the best Bathory album. It still has some of that are aggression from earlier albums and Quorthon developed that viking sound just enough to also make it epic and beautiful. The result is massive sounding viking songs with buzzing black metal guitar tones over it playing bad ass riffs. His other Viking albums are great too but this one just finds that perfect sweet spot in my opinion.

For the past few months I've been getting really heavily into Finnish BM. When I started listening to BM I pretty much exclusively listened to Norwegian bands so it was kind of sad to realize that most of the veteran bands have either split or are releasing complete garbage nowadays, not to mention that there are hardly any recent bands worth a damn. It's like the whole country died after the 90s. In Finland however it has been pretty much the exact opposite. Many notable Finnish BM bands like Behexen, Satanic Warmaster and Clandestine Blaze have released some of their finest albums fairly recently and there are new excellent bands popping out everywhere. I legitimately can't think of a single country with a black metal scene as healthy as Finland's.

Finnish bands seem to grow stronger and better over time, The Poisonous Path is probably best album yet from Behexen, also Let the devil in by Sargeist is a really strong album with great riffs, didn't really like their newest album though. Azazel came out with a few albums aswell after a long time under the radar. Lastly Archgoat released an EP a few months ago, can't wait for their new album. There's just so much to Finnish BM scene, glad to see it so active and producing quality metal.
