Coherence is amazing because it is a bunch of friends basically improving the whole movie.
They were given props, character motivations and backstories, and told to go to a dinner party.
You can see the improv in them talking over each other occasionally, and its why they sound so genuinely surprised at the beginning when the phone cracks; most of the movie's plot was hidden from them until the specific actor needed to know what was about to happen. Basically up until they come inside from going the first time, it's straight off the nose from each of the actors.
