it's good. YMO are my favourite
The only Japanese music I've been exposed to is music from Anime and Nintendo games and the more intense tracks from those are pretty good
I respect their punk bands like GISM and Gauze being complete fucking maniacs.
ive listened to hosono but not ymo, where should i start?
their first two albums are great, just listen to those
this is a personal pick: youtube.com
their first album. It's self titled.
it's good
Some of my favourite bands are Japanese in the same way some of my best friends are black.
I want to pat the head of a floofy 80s girl
they had a strong goth scene before the visual kei idol system took over it
this chart is racist as fuck and just wrong
Shibuya kei is my guilty pleasure.
Nice. It's kind of hard to find, and most of what I found is Death Rock. But it's great youtube.com
someone here on Sup Forums shared this amazing band Midori. I instantly fell in love with it. Shame the band was disbanded.
that's what rasenvirus is for

Same here. Ryuichi Sakamoto's new album is my AOTY.

Check out the solo work. Sup Forums likes Sakamoto and Hosono, but Yukihiro Takahashi is also great.
Got into Japanese pop rock earlier this year.

really like Midori as well. :(
Picked up a copy of this on vinyl on Saturday. Was at a random HMV in Saitama, and they actually had a really nice selection.
youtube.com
They had あぶらだこ's EP from before they were あぶらだこ. A copy of INU's album, and a few really awesome city pop records、among a bunch of other neat stuff. I was really surprised.
The HMV in Shibuya still has a Les Rallizes Denudes CD. It's been there for about a year. 16,000~ yen. No thanks.

I grew up watching anime. Retrospectively i think my generation lived in a western golden age of anime. Everything on adult swim, toonamie, fox kids, kids wb. Back when there was no streaming and you had to wait a week to find out if goku won the tenkaichi budokai.
Then of course there was the rise of online fan subber communities and manga scans.
I dropped out of anime in the mid 2000's, either i grew up or things got a little too moe for my taste.
Anyways all that anime is pretty much a gateway to Japanese music. Anime does this think were every season has a new opening and ending song and they usually use some sort of rock, pop, whatever band.
youtube.com
Around this same time i dropped out of anime i was beginning to become a hyper hipster, discovered mu, the start of musical piracy, the entirety of every recorded piece of music at my finger tips.
This is how i started exploring non anime associated japanese music.
You get into city pop, jpop, shibuya kei, japanese metal, jap rock, electronic.
check out melt banana, less jazz influences but just as crazy

well like everywhere else pretty much, some of it is garbage, some of it is really good, but most of it is just alright. i'm a fan of Japanese jazz
They innovate very little but they have bands within every genre that are extremely talented. When the West creates something, Japan tries really hard to perfect it and make it their own and they usually do a good job. No matter what genre you like you can probably find a Japanese virtuoso group within it that you'll love.
Also I find J-pop very cute. I'm a fan.
I've been listening to Wednesday Campanella for months. My favorite Japanese artist right now. They make fantastic music videos. I also like Supercar, Sakanaction and Clammbon.

>jazz is better than classical
Absolutely laughable opinion
japanese pop music is about cuteness not acting like a giant whore. This is how they differentiated themselves from american pop music.
The fans of jpop are insane and dont like the idea of their pop stars having boy friends or having sex.
You mean idols (which are losing popularity, apart from some big groups) plenty of Japanese pop stars are open about their sex life.
j idolfags have moved on to kpop
It is though.
It is though.
uh no, that'll never happen until korea stops being a third world country and allows lewd photobooks. forcing all their idols to get extensive plastic surgery against their will would be a plus also
The most popular idol in Japan right now is a 25 year old woman called Rino Sashihara. She has been involved in multiple dating "scandals".
nothing calms me more than Nujabes
this is what South Korea did to Hitomi's leotard
they deserve to get nuked by Best Korea
wonderful video and song, thanks for the share
I used to get all my Japanese music from a blog site with Japanese music. I can't remember the name of it but it had everything from really underground stuff to popular stuff. I've been unable to find any new Japanese music since it got shut down.
