Hip Hop By Year Redux: the 1990s

Remaking these since Topsters is died.
10 albums A year. Each row is a year.

Throw out some albums that are essential to 90s hip hop.

pharcyde 92

Added. I'll post an update when I get enough entries.

De La Soul is Dead 91

Are you going to be an ignorant faggot and exclude tupac this time too?

idc about his music but he's very very important to the hip hop landscape of the time

MF DOOM - Operation Doomsday 1999

Big Bear - Doin' Thangs (1998)

Update 1.

No. I will not exclude Tupac if people want him on the chart.
This is a proper redux. No bias period aside from ONE pick when I get to the 2010 chart.

Also slim shady LP, feel free to hate but that's pretty essential stuff

You're lucky I said "No bias".

Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst (96)
real shite

Beastie Boys - Ill Communication (1994)
Check Your Head is more popular but I think IC is better

PB (89 rip) > IC > CYH

Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star

GZA/Genius - Liquid Swords (95)

Keep it coming guys we're getting a lot of progress.

Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus (97)
GZA - Liquid Swords (95)
Big Pun - Capital Punishment (98)
Dalek - Negro Necro Nekros
Redman - Dare Iz a Darkside (94)

Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus 1997
Capone N Noreaga - War Report 1997
Heltah Skeltah - Nocturnal 1996

Dalek is from 98, mb

Remove LL Cool J, De La Soul, and Jay Z and ass Capital Punishment 98.

ATLiens too though
Also Scarface The Diary

I'm not gonna remove anything until I need to.
Plus you can't delete albums on topsters2. You have to directly replace them. If I need to swapout later on you're welcome to offer suggestions.

Cypress Hill - Black Sunday 1993

KMD - Black Bastards (93)

Divine Styler - Spiral Walls Containing Autumns of Light - 1992

Many different genres but still hip hop, and probably the most important experimental hip hop of the decade.

Update.

Will be added. (I've heard Mr.Hood but not Black Bastard funny enough)

dont forget big pun pls

Tbh I have hardly digged into KMD myself, just suggesting that album based on the parts of it that I heard really, and because MF DOOM

My bad. Slipped my eye first time around.

I hear Black Bastard is a lot darker of an album compared to Mr.Hood. Mr.Hood is a super goofy/upbeat album. I actually intended to add it when I first made the chart but it slipped my mind.
In fact I'm gonna anyway.

Hmm, some of these years were seriously lacking

Ice Cube - AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (90)
Geto Boys - We Can't Be Stopped (91)
Atmosphere - Overcast! (97)

Kool G Rap and DJ Polo - Wanted: Dead or Alive 1990

Yeah, i vaguely recall having heard that. Gonna give both of them a listen soon forsure.

It's beautiful so far. Proud of how far it's getting.
(And luckily no Tupac)

Onyx - All We Got Iz Us (95)
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing (96)
Busta Rhymes - When Disaster Strikes (97)
Deep Puddle Dynamics - The Taste of Rain...Why Kneel? (99)

Definitely this. also The Diary by Scarface and Moment Of Truth by Gang Starr

Starting to organize the rows so they're chronological.

Most of these were already added.

Yeah, i mean be glad i suggested the Slim Shady LP and not all eyez on me or some shit

How has nobody mentioned Big L- Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous yet (95)

Ready To Die

Ghostface Killah - Ironman (96)
Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep (94)

Mac Mall - Illegal Business? (93)
E-40 - In A Major Way (95)
Young Lay - Black 'n Dangerous (96)

Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs (1999)

Sorry that took a minute. Still organizing some.

Don't jinx it man....

death certificate by ice cube

in all seriousness, what is the deal with 2pac? i tried to listen to all eyez and it was fucking atrocious. is it a cultural thing or what?

Tupac is a good artist, just not a good album artist. He's like the Queen of hip hop.

break out the champagne glasses and the muthafuckin condoms

This, he does have a lot of good or at least decent songs, but there seems to be quite some filler too

FINALLY all updated and organized.

He died so he's the best rapper ever.

93 til infinity

It took me 10 minutes to reorganize this fuck my life.

maybe just fill the rest out with RYM or something if the thread dies. We got almost all the non-Tupac essentials.

That's pussy shit we can come up with the rest.

I agree

Me Against the World 95.

God fucking damn it.

1991- breaking atoms
1992- whut? thee album
1993 - here come the lords
1995 - mystic stylez
2000 - supreme clientele

you could've principally refused it user

I promised there'd be no bias.
For example I fucking HATE Mystic Styles. But I still added it. Because someone wanted it.

People's Instinctive Travels - 1990

How the fuck I forgot People's Travels is beyond me

>2000
>1990s

People under the stairs - the next step

... And then there was x

Too Short - Short Dogg's In The House - 1990

It's hard at times but thanks.
I hate a few of these but it's for the people.

Lords of the Underground - Here Come the Lords

Nvm I’m blind lol, this is a good chart

1996 - 1 Slot (may fill with The Fugees)
1997 - 3 Slots
1998 - 2 slots
1999 - 2 slots

1992:
X-Raided - Psycho Active
The Brand New Heavies - Heavy Rhyme Experience, Vol. 1

I managed to fill 1990 and 1996
We just need 97-99

Blackout - Method Man and Redman and maybe 2001 by Dre for 1999

Good call bud.
97 and 98 are left.

97 is mostly just shitty sequels to better albums, not too many essentials.

Well I'm sure nobody will complain if I add Wu Tang Forever.
May add Ready to Die too.

Not Ready to Die fuck my life I meant Life After Death.

You gonna do 2000s too OP? More enthusiastic for that one honestly

Hieroglyphics - 3rd Eye Vision

Yes. And a 2010s one. But I'm not sure if I'm gonna do it tonight or wait till tomorrow. The 2000s one will get a lot more traction I'm sure.

Added.

Significant Other.

I say do it tomorrow, i'm gonna take a nap now but don't want to miss that

How unfortunate 1999 is full.

One more for 97 and 98 needed. We can do this.

Three Dollar Bill Y'all

Can someone confirm this is bait? I don't want to add this.

1997: Kool Keith - Sex Style
1998: The Black Eyed Peas - Behind The Front

It's not bait, add it.

Yes it’s bait lel

I think we got a good variety here.
Here's the final.
See ya'll tomorrow.

Where the fuck is Limp Bizkit?
