Alien and Blade Runner as the contender
Alien
>mfw none of the best scifi of the last 40 years has come out in the last 20 years.
I can't see that bladerunner is in the running.
Honestly has it really stood the test of time?
Blade runner, 2001, Interstellar
Good point
Reliance on computers has made writers' dialogue lazy...
Yes
How does interstellar come in close to top 10
Original Transformers the Movie
> I cried
Because actual scientists were like "yeah that's what black holes should look like from now on"
Pandorum
Congratulations, that was the most reddit comment I've read today
I did like Pandorum, but it's nowhere close to 2001, Blade Runner or Interstellar.
Absolute fucking retard.
Pandorum and Moon for recent flicks
> 40 years
>2001
>kung fu with monsters in space
>best sci fi
No.
sunshine and its not close, yes even with the 3rd act
The first 2/3s of sunshine are about as kino as scifi can get.
...
Agree
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Older than 40 years: Dark Star
You're a retard, not unexpected since you had nothing to add to the thread.
Here's something for you to read when you're not acting like a cunt.
but it was little pleb
Oh shit, it's almost 50 years old.. It has aged pretty well!
that's my desktop background
see The only retard is you and your gay uncle in
how do we fix the end of sunshine
...
wtf i love interstellar now
Those are just space flicks. I'd compare them to The Ice Pirates and Outland from the 70s ad 80s.
There is nothing around today that compares with Back to the Future, or Alien, or Blade Runner imo.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy life to contribute such wonderous insight
make the crazy psycho one of their crew so you get some of the descent into madness
A lot of "sci-fi" don't even fit into the genre. Sci-fi are about scientific ideas and innovation mixed with fiction. So Interstellar is probably the best sci-fi movie from the last 40 years.
I'm just really happy noone has mentioned fucking Star Wars yet. Don't get me wrong, I do like Star Wars a lot, but it's NOT sci-fi. Need more movies like Interstellar, The Martian, Moon, Ex Machinae and that kind of stuff.
yep, but its the best we've got in the last decade,
Outland? really I'd rate Pan higher then Outland, the middle sags so much in Outland 2nd act is a fucking trial
...
Solaris - any takers??
The soundtrack alone put the hairs up on my back.
original or remake? think about your answer carefully this is important
Pretty obvious imo
You mentioned it you fuck
Witnessed your trips however
Not the '72 original I'm afraid
I'm trying nto think of quintessential 90s sci-fi movies and all I can think of is shit like Stargate and ID4 and 12 monkeys.
So far I reckon we have:
Moon
Interstellar
Alien
>mfw there are people unironically liking Moon on Sup Forums.
Urgh
Aged like an uncooked fish
That awful cutting edge bullet time
If this is it, is the genre way overrated??
Have we been sold down the river??
ROBOCOP original ofc
/thread
blade runner, total recall, minority report, a scanner darkly. thanks mr. dick.
alien is really horror.
u suck
pandorium u cunt
>mfw their are people too dumb to like moon on Sup Forums
>2001
thats 48 years ago, m8
op said 40 years.
2001 aso is the goat
Pitch Black
Blade Runner certainly
Total Recall is great but it seems far too camp for a 'best scifi' judgment
The Faculty
...
Primer
thats horror
arrival
Galaxy of Terror, if only for:
>giant mental rape slug
>practical effect
>nearly a ton in weight
>dollied over nude actress that probably didn't have to due much acting in order to convey mind rending terror
>one of the first films in the 80s to bring "DUDE GIANT NINJA STARS LMAO" into the public consciousness
Seriously, why were 80s scifi/fantasy flicks so gay for giant ninja stars? Did frolf really have that deep of an impact on so many lives during the 60s?
What's so good about it, that it was difficult to follow?
Yeah I have heard that one should be pretty nice, unfortunaltely it don't release in Sweden until december 2nd.
The guys who wrote Alien were talking about this on the "Making of Alien" dvd. I thought it was a satirical movie. Is that true? What makes Dark Star great?
The feels
Alien. Unless you consider it more horror than sci-fi (that, of course, is a whole different debate).
It can be two things
It's so bad it's good.
Very comfy too, you should watch it
insult verhoeven like that one more time faggot
>I live and die by the crystals
Classic movie.
It can but it isn't just cause the monster was an 'alien' doesn't make it sci-fi, it's horror brah
yes
yes yes
People like the ball for some reason, the best bits are just the crew sitting around talking shit
calling out reddit is the most reddit thing to do on Sup Forums.
The Black Hole
Actually, it sucks. But the atmosphere and theme is perfect. Deserves a remake.
Prometheus
Matrix, Dark City, Gattica, Strange Days, 5th element, Screamers, Virtuosity, and thats just off the top of my head
For me it's Alien and Blade Runner.
Honorable mention to Arrival, Ghost in the Shell, maybe eXistenZ?
Nah calling out people for calling out reddit and then call them reddit is easily the most reddit thing you can post on Sup Forums
Fucking redditor
Dark City fuck how could I forget, purekino
Kinda looks like a T-rex blowing smoke.
1.total recall 90
2.the matrix
3.they live
4.blade runner
5.minority report
6.men in black
7.preadator
8.star trek 4
9.gattaca
10.aliens
Star Trek Into Darkness
Alien is probably my favorite. Although that's more horror then science fiction.
Back to the Future. Fifth Element. Dark City. 12 Monkeys just to name a few others that stand out for me.
> There are still people on Sup Forums that pretend Interstellar wasn't good
...
Contact was bretty good I thought
>that week where the word reddit resulted in an auto ban
>its a plebs still try and convince ppl intersteller isn't utter trash episode
Contact is still my favorite.
yea I'm surprised it even let me post that, the word filter use to block posts like
I loved all that legit sci fi in interstellar like knocking books off 4D bookshelves through the power of love
Or the elaborate 2-stages rocket used to leave earth that's completely useless since their shitty shuttle can land and leave other planets that are even more massive.
Bravo Nolan
kek
>that pic
Literally salvia
ROY
my favorite is the astronaut explaining to the other astronaut how a fucking black hole works using the classic preschool pen though paper method, While their literally in sight of said blackhole
Bravo Nolan
I'm surprised that Interstellar was mentioned first, but it's definitely awesome. Criminally underrated.
Quite surprised that literally nobody has mentioned Terminator 2. Not strictly what people think of as sci-fi but still one of the best most culturally impact movies ever made.
Niggers, please.
You ALL know that Star Wars is the best sci-fi film ever made.
Just because they fucked up the legacy, doesn't mean that the original doesn't still stand tall. The ORIGINAL, not the Lucas Jewed up version.
