people in general have no fucking clue what the EU is or how it operates. Everyone I've talked to seems to regard it as a trade union first and a legislative body second, because that's what they were told 2 decades ago when voting on it. they don't know what the commission is and how they call the shots and elect each other, they don't know MEPs basically have no power at all and they don't realize that EU essentially already is a superstate with a constitution, a flag, a ''national'' anthem common currency etc.
moreover, they don't realize that national MPs being ''moderate'' about the EU means they're just apologists and would vote for federalization in a heartbeat if it meant they could get more cushy jobs. they don't realize how much the political class has drifted away from the general populace and how little loyalty they have for their own country - if they're not with you, they're against you.
