it's probably Bel Air by can

>The mountain cuts off the town from view like a cancer growth is removed by skill.

horrible lyrics, Tony Banks said it himself

>LTiA Part 2 blocks your path

>implying lyrics matter in prog

thick as a brick by far

Dance on a Volcano/Los Endos

Van Der Graaf Generator - A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers

definitely up there

This whole album is fantastic.

The Battle of Epping Forest is underrated as fuck

That's not even the best song on the album.

I honestly prefer part one

Dancing w moonlit knight is better desu. Best prog song is probably starless. Easy pick I guess but its just so fucking good.

I put that up originally, and I'd say the same but LTiA Pt 2 is just more famous

Holy shit OP just listened this shit rocks

I feel I wouldn't be too far away if I said it's one of the best pieces of music ever created. So unique but cerebral and intense, I don't even know.

>the long buildup into the main riff of Part One
this is how I test stereos now

>the roaring high notes over the fuzzy main riff
my god

Same. In fact, I actually prefer Part 3 to both.

>that long Fripp cadenza leading into the band intro
>mfw

Not bad, but I prefer Bel Air by Malice Mizer.

A Passion Play is better than Thick as a Brick, though

>Album starts and transitions using ASMR quality sound to set mood, tone, and ambiance in a masterful way that i have yet to find a comparison to
>keeps this nightmare-circus type vibe as it explores deep and dark themes to thier comclusions
>album ends with cygnus committing suicide and then looping back to the beginning of cygnus, thus completing the album and leaving a great sense of satisfaction to the listener, as well as something to ponder
>volta-fags to this day still discussing what it all means
Holy fucking shit, why isn't more of Sup Forums a volta fag?

This is a fucking crown jewel in Prog, why don't more people listen to this?

>Blocks Your Path

There was a time when I had half the song memorized

All those goddamn signature shifts are so hard to keep up with.

lyrics really are shit, but the music is godtier on that track

Came here to post this

That's not how you spell Cygnus X1

I think you mean La Villa Strangiato.

Top tier production and musicianship but I like story in my prog, I think story driven and immersive lyrics help define the genre. It definitely deserves respect, but as part of it's album rather than a stand alone song. Just my opinion, man.

Are you sure you weren't trying to spell Xanadu

i agree

Not prog.

Supper's Ready is the greatest prog rock song of all time

"And You and I" aka that one song after Close to the Edge

What are you talking about, Starless is 100% prog. How is the most popular song from one of the definitive 70s prog albums not prog?

>UH OH RETARD ALERT

wtf are you talking about
Moonchild is the best prog song of all time

Literally best prog album of all time and there's no discussion

if the explosion at the end of part one doesn't make you actually shit your pants throw out your gear

joke's on you, I've listened to LTiA so many times I know the whole thing

Name a Better prog song released in the last 20 years

Wilson's Luminol shits on this, sorry

Anesthetize

It's objectively Thick as a Brick. Epitaph and Supper's Ready are close though.

Part 2 > Part 3 > Part 1 >>> Part 4

One verse... What about almost the majority of other rock bands who didn't even bother with much more than pseudo love ballads? Also, Dancing with the Moonlight knight. Also, Here Comes the Flood.

Nine Feet Underground.

the Fripp-Gabriel version of Here Comes the Flood on Exposure is GOAT

If you haven't heard this. Do so. Fantastic. A lot of Anthony Phillips solo stuff is really strong.

2112

WALKING ACROSS

THE SITTING ROOM

Oh, yes. That version should've been on Gabriel's debut.

This moves me to tears. Another contender.

DIGESTING ENGLAND BY THE POOOUND

Wilson outdid himself several times as point out. Also, Raider II and Deform To Form a Star
