Devo isn't underrated, they're pretty popular actually.

>the amount of bands that have listed them as an influence as of yet
>they had a major hit and a considerable MTV presence up to about 1983
>still has a large following
sorry you're wrong, this is coming from somebody whose favorite band was Devo

Please tell me how Devo is underrated, you fucking chink

devolution is here. general boy spoke only the truth, if only the spuds managed to crack the audience with a larger message in time...
time to clockout.

Whip It, Satisfaction, and the energy domes are all anyone knows them for.

Shrivel Up vs Swilling Itching Brain SIB
which is your favorite spooky track?

>devolution is here
scary true, how did they know?

All people outside of the internet know Devo for is Whip It, Satisfaction and Mark Mothersbaugh

They were great until Oh, No! It's Devo!

Their first 3 albums are a must listen

devo are the realest motherfuckers

ONID was their last good album. They shouldve stopped after that. Even though they really changed their sound compared to their previous stuff like Duty Now and New Traditionalists, I think ONID is still pretty good

saw them live

FUCKING SUCKED.

Whatever I would say, would probably not all touch upon the significance or gravity of the situation at this point of time? It may sound trite or glib. All I can tell you is that it completely and utterly changed my life. I was white hippie boy and than I saw exit wounds from M1 rifles out of the backs of two people I knew. Two of the four people who were killed, Jeffrey Miller and Allison Krause, were my friends. We were all running our asses off from these motherfuckers. It was total utter bullshit. Live ammunition and gas masks – none of us knew, none of us could have imagined. They shot into a crowd that was running. I stopped being a hippie and I started to develop the idea of devolution. I got real, real pissed off.

[...]

Absolutely. Until then I was a hippie. I thought that the world is essentially good. If people were evil, there was justice and that the law mattered. All of those silly naïve things. I saw the depths of the horrors and lies and the evil. In the paper that evening, the Akron Beacon Journal, said that students were running around armed and that officers had been hurt. So deputy sheriffs went out and deputized citizens. They drove around with shotguns and there was martial law for ten days. 7 PM curfew. It was open season the students. We lived in fear. Helicopters surrounding the city with hourly rotating runs out to the West Side and back downtown. All first amendment rights are suspended at the instance when the governor gives the order. All of the class action suits by the parents of the slain students were all dismissed out of court because once the governor announced martial law, they had no right to assemble.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a good album but it marks the point that they lost their edge and descended more into novelty.

Curious, what do you think did it? Was it the costumes? Was it their lyrics? or just the music turning into bass synth pop?

Luv n Such or Mr B's ballroom?

The lyrics are one of the album's stronger points. It was mostly how conventional their music had become in comparison to the preceding years. It's known that they wanted to utilize more synth sounds but I feel that they could've done it in a more creative way than to submit to the "new wave" paradigm. I blame Roy Thomas Baker.

clowns

Ballroom, every time.

yes. always felt like we have not yet met the peak of their appreciation.

When did you see them? That's a major factor.

Also since there's some people that actually seem to know Devo, I found this the other day and its really sick.
