Me? No.

Us record collectors don't respect you either, PLEB!

it's pointless

That looks like an accident waiting to happen

What kind of question is this? Do you have something against them?

>Do you have something against them?
yes

They're probably insufferable hipsters for using a deprecated and (technically) inferior medium but they still like music, right?

>They're probably insufferable hipsters for using a deprecated and (technically) inferior medium
yes
>they still like music, right?
I don't about that

Collecting is always a mental illness at one point

...

OP here, let me explain my thinking

Records are a terrible medium to collect. They're mass produced, they're plastic, and they take up a bunch of space. I, instead, collect semen inside my asshole. Every load is unique, organic, and the cleanup is easy! It doesn't take up any space inside my house, and I every new spunk I add to my collection is an adventure.

The difference being one is just out to collect a bunch of records, vs liking music and picking the vinyl version instead of CDs/downloads right? I guess if you're just collecting records for the sake of it, it is silly.

Who the fuck collects records for respect?

Great doc about people who collect

youtube.com/watch?v=nkCMSrvOTAo

Really shows how mentally ill record collectors are.

in other news: water is wet

I'm fine with people who collect music to listen to its when the medium becomes the focus that shit starts to get ridiculous
Like sure you can have thousands of records but how many of those do you really care about?

There's a line between a collection and an obsession. This guy's clearly obsessed. That's not a collection its a horde.

On behalf of record collectors everywhere, I can safely say...
No one cares what you think, OP.

provided the record is kept in decent condition sound quality on vinyl is OBJECTIVELY better

this, he's hanging off it and everything, guy's in danger.

If they actually listen at least 90% of the records they buy, and aren't buying $30 reissues, sure. Music is a hobby for them and it's something they enjoy spending their money on.

I definitely respect their money

"people" like OP generally think in black and white "with us or against us" terms like the rest of their sjw friends

you're either a woke senpai listening to soundcloud rap, or a record horder – no in-between

Everyone who collects records is an sjw

>tfw almost started collecting records
dodged a bullet there

>buying music
where were you when the early 2000s ended?

I collect records but not for respect. I collect them 'cause I can afford to and its fun. Same for comics, movies, retro videogames, etc.

It's almost like music is a hobby of mine or something

This is the saddest fucking post I've ever read on this board. Fucking manchild.

My dream is to have a collection. But I'm a poorfag student so that dream will have to wait until I'm well in my 30s.

is that zorn?

Sorry you feel that way. My father has a record collection too, so does my fiance. We're all a bunch of manchildren.

yee

cool story, faggot

thanks cutie

It's just kind of lame. There's something self congratulatory about it. It makes you seem less mysterious.

>thinking of records as buying music
it's like a band shirt at this point, it's merch

STOP ENJOYING THINGS THAT'S BAD

i don't wear merch

.
t.oldfag here. Vinyl was a terrible mass format. I know, sound quality, cover art. But as a mass format it was disaster. Imagine the calculations you have to do before lending someone a record (and lending records used to be a big thing back when you had to pay for it). Trying to weigh up buying a lightly scratched second-hand record. Taking records to a party, someone leaves them against a radiator. I could go on, its fine if you are just obsessing about them now but the good old days definitely weren't. There is a reason people embraced cassettes, which are even worse frankly.

The reason people collect records today is a sort of forcing function around their own attention spans. They actually like them being expensive I suspect, forces you to actually listen to them all the way through. I kind of understand that aspect, but the more general romanticisation of the past could only be done by people that don't remember it.

...

no more than i do people who collect porn vhs

If you think this is, then you're a fucking retard. What the hell is wrong with devoting time to your hobby by collecting things? I don't even collect, but I actually would like to someday. Are you that much of a fag to not respect that?

You poor sad mentally ill hamster of a man.

t. projecting soyboy

you're both faggots

Is that actually a thing? Do people even save any kind of physical porn anymore?

damn you got me

I can literally snap your fragile twink body in half if I really wanted to

Watch yourself

*slaps your girlfriend's ass*

hottest thing I've read on Sup Forums in a while desu

>(WITH YOUR FUCKING PHONE TURNED OFF)
man you kids and our wacky pocket computers, amirite, fellow boomers?
Trent was always a pretentious nob who's only good work was the Quake soundtrack.

Are you sure about that?

Prove me wrong then.

agree

glorified by americans for almost no solid reason

fuck off genZ defender, you are cancer.

this.
I've collected records for 8 years now and I've never declared it because I know it is very not cool

Get this hothead outta here!

>old farts are actively against new technology only because it's new
>old farts think that "wacky kids these days" only sit on their phone all fucking day when all they're physically capable of is sitting on their ass and watching tv all day due to having polio when they were 5.
>faggots like Trent take their themselves too seriously to the point they criticize how people experience their "art"
yeah, I hate people who are ignorant to how their opinion doesn't mean fucking shit.

>i dont wear merch
What are you trying to communicate here, you fucking neanderthal? I don't wear merch either, so what? Think before you type ffs. Retarded faggot.

Lol the biggest vinyl nerds I know are older dudes who can't let go of the good old days. I agree with your general point but not at all with that last sentence.

>yeah, I hate people who are ignorant to how their opinion doesn't mean fucking shit.
the irony

*as to how I live my life
sorry about that friend (^:

Except there's still a market for vinyls in this day and age. Some LPs can be worth a lot.

Respect them? ...Not particularly?

I actually have a pretty big collection, filling up one of those large ikea shelves that take up most of a wall (and I got rid of much more). To be honest I wish now that I'd spent the money in better ways. It's encumbering; I'd rather live lighter, free to move anywhere whenever, and a big collection is a hassle to ship around. I probably couldn't bring myself to get rid of them, but given the option, I wouldn't have started collecting in the first place.

It took some willpower to quit but I just forced myself to stop going into the stores. I have a fucking Amoeba records literally down my street and just around the corner. A big help is having my own art practice to channel my focus into, I think there was a time where I was going through everything and building up my canon, processing everything, and then it was time to put that phase behind me and get into action.

Collectors though... they're kind of weird, usually. Going to record fairs, it's a lot of aging hipsters and music nerds, and there's a kind of slightly icky vibe like most of them have different types of disorders and issues.

The best I can say for them is that some here and there have dug up cool things like old new age tapes or whatever, which I appreciate. I think the internet has replaced that function, but there are still the collectors who have uploaded that stuff so there's been this era of processing all that stuff over the last decade and a half as it's poured through online. I think that process has pretty much reached its end though, and similar to critics, I don't see why I should 'need' collectors to tell me about anything I have access to myself and probably a better take on than they do.

well I'd gladly stop doing it but there's stuff I can't get any other way

>so there's been this era of processing all that stuff over the last decade *and pouring over it online

of course I do, what else am I supposed to do, give a list of my fetishes to a jewish botnet?

Agree. I'm the only person under 30 I ever see at places like record fairs and I'm almost there as well.

>not having a full detailed print of the album and physically enjoying the full art work
>Fragile outdated retro-beta ass CD's vs A immaculate shiny thicc EP
>not getting to listen to old jazz and hearing the distortion and the atmosphere it creates when you play an old record
>not reading off the track-list and album info on the back in your hands

keep listening to your mp3s kiddos

>not listening to FLAC masters that sound superior to the vinyl
