literally who?

50cent

yes

Daily reminder Slint made a career based on the second half of this.

He invented math rock AND meth rock.

Literally, unironically this.

i wouldnt say slint has a career

Trout Mask Replica is antecedent math rock in a sense. Otherwise I'd say it's of its time, just strange. All the instruments are virtuosic on that album and he's a wacky fella

>Slint

Mama mia

>All the instruments are virtuosic on that album
You've never listen to classical music before? I assume.

Don Van Vliet locked his band in a house and made them rehearse all day everyday for an entire year so that their playing was perfect.

holy shit user u r fcking right on point.
how do i even enjoy slint from here on that i know they are just a bunch of frauds?

math rock is a meme genre

no

>implying Don Van Vliet's band possessed "outstanding technical ability"

Listen to that immaculate transition at 01:52 on and tell me if amateurs could do that.

Slint did it.

Slint wish they could repeat a riff like that without a single note being out of place. You're just being a prick now.

XD

This

As far as white blues goes, yes they were among the best in the business

John French was/is an immensely talented drummer as well. his style is totally original compared to anyone else at the time, even on the albums before TMR

yes

>Bottom right

The outro to this is a precursor to shoegaze as well, although it was more the work of the producer.

I used to hate Trout Mask Replica until I heard the outtakes to it. Then it clicked for me that they weren't just playing nonsense and that the album is actually very structured.

This album would be better if it wasn't for its shit mixing.

Career? You do realize they disbanded in 1993. after releasing Spiderland? Hardly a career, when the band doesn't even exist.

>Then it clicked for me that they weren't just playing nonsense and that the album is actually very structured.

This is what plebs don't realize.

no

They also recorded all of the material in 6 hours. I doubt providing transcriptions would make it any clearer to you what they did, except for seeing a lot of dots and line on a piece of paper. Watch this video as a starting point:

What's the best track on the album and why is it Sugar n Spikes?

Everyone knows it's this.

I fucking love Beefheart's lyrics.

it's Steal Softly

I believe that there are no inventions, only discoveries. But you are onto something, Van Vliet had this notion that staying in the same time signature or tempo too long was corny, and they should change frequently. That's a very math-rock approach to composing.

Been awhile since I last heard TMR. This has convinced me it's time to go pick some mushrooms and let it happen again. Thank you user

Moonlight on Vermont

>not linking the most Slint-like (or math-rocky) track on TMR

user, why?

Not in the slightest, where did you get this idea

>Slint
>career

pick one, slint is a loser band and poor as fuck and they probably all still work at the toilet store

pretty sure those guys are still doing the music
not in slint and not for much money but you know

Holy shit, at times it sounds exactly like math rock / midwest emo riffs

Colonel Chickenhead

No, Stravinsky did.
