Emerson Lake and Palmer

Don't see them talked about too much here. Good band? Best album in their catalog?

the epitome of wank-off prog

so basically every song is Moonchild?

Emerson Lake & Palmer (1971), 6.5/10
Tarkus (1971), 7/10
Pictures At An Exhibition (1972), 4/10
Trilogy (1972), 4/10
Brain Salad Surgery (1973), 6/10
Works Vol I (1977), 4/10
Vol II (1977), 3/10
Love Beach (1978), 3/10
Black Moon (1992), 3/10
In The Hot Seat (1994) , 3/10

At least Moonchild had atmosphere, ELP are too busy noodling to know music is supposed to be enjoyable

Agree for the most part. But Trilogy has actual musically effective compositions. And The Sherrif is a catchy track. Tons of emotionally dull keyboard noodling garbage though.

Tarkus is awful and Trilogy is way better.

They and their ilk killed the genre.

wish they would've done more shit like this

I never understood why people hate them so much. I really enjoy their music, but I've only listened to the s/t and Tarkus.

I like Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery the most. I don't understand the "wank" meme. Either you like their music, or you don't (sort of like every artist ever).

Was this before or after Solid Air by John Martyn?

before. RIP John Martyn

This is cool.

oh good, 360° Wanking

There's nothing wrong with musical wank.

yeah if you’re an emotionless autist

Yeah they were proof that prog wasn't inherently good.

Autists hate fun.

Technically they are great musicians. However this does not always translate to great songs, though they have plenty. They don't have any truly solid albums, though Brain Salad Surgery is a perfectly good start. Best to stick with a best of collection. And I love prog, so I don't say this lightly.

Just the Lake ones. The others are much more energetic.

Emerson Lake and Palmer? More like Palmer.
