Album of the Year (AOTY) Thread

Were any good albums aside from these released this year? I was really fucking bored throughout this year from a lack of good shit.

My top 5 this year:

1. Vashti Bunyan - Heartleap
2. Glassjaw -Material Control
3. Brand New - Science Fiction
4. Slowdive - s/t
5 Idles - Brutalism

Best bodies of work:
King Gizzard - 8/10
Mark Kozelek - 7.5/10

>Vashti Bunyan - Heartleap
Wut, isn't that 2014?

King Gizzard is kinda meh desu

That SKM record is great but Universal Themes is better IMO

currently my top 10.
I only have a few more albums I want to listen to by the end of the year

Thought this year was pretty great in all honesty.

well if you like pseud stuff like Bjork I could understand that

>Bjork
>pseud stuff
well that's just, like, your opinion buddy. It certainly wasn't without its flaws (being kinda repetitive and many songs lacking any defined structure), but I appreciate its ambition and conceptual unity. Very pretty too

still haven't got time to listen to this Vijay Iyer record
I have several albums lying around but no time to listen to them because of work

Yes, I'm just stupid

Plenty of good shit this year.
Fuck I missed quite a lot of new psych releases, gotta get listening.

honestly I think 90% of the issue is Arca, dude shits over anything he touches

Really? I think his production is some of the most innovative shit right now, although he certainly hasn't got a fucking clue how to write an actual song. He's much much better when he takes a backseat on the writing, like on Kelela's new album for example

year started out eh but there's been some good stuff

that's the thing he just throws a shit-ton of effects everywhere and everyone guzzles his cum because "wow so experimental"

he can't write anything coherent

>he just throws a shit-ton of effects everywhere
I'd argue his production is waaaaay more meticulous and intentional than that– he's certainly a very talented guy, there's very few producers out there who could do what he does. The problem is the sheer lack of musical ideas he has which is what made his s/t such a let down imo

...

Well moving on to #2, I also think Glassjaw definitinetly deserves a top score of the year and I'm very grateful to Sup Forums for telling me about it. However for starters I think this particular album is just too short for aoty. Although of its particular genre, which I don't really follow, I'd be surprised if it wasn't easily the best of the year.

Fuck yeah Pink. I was shocked by how good this was. I didn't rate it though and I don't remember why but I assume some red flags went up somewhere. At minimum very good though.

autism

I don't know what you're referring to specifically but I agree with that top row basically being right on target. King Gizzard had the best body of work and Kairon is likely my closest choice to aoty. One tiny little song that I decided to throw under the bus is all that kept it out.
