hiragana and katakana are pretty easy. Kanji (and the vocabulary in general) can take quite some time. Also, I would not recommend duolingo, it's a meme site. It's ok if you're already somewhat fluent in a language and want to review it a little bit, but as a learning tool is pretty shit.

Does anyone have any ideas for companies that hire foreigners with advanced science degrees? Mostly looking for research type or laboratory positions. I miss living in Japan and would like to pursue something in my field if it's possible. I have about N3 level of language proficiency, but would like to get up to native level.

Same for the Koreans. Met some in Japan and among them, there are 2 girls I vividly remember. One had eyes that were slanted as fuck, the other has slightly bigger ones. It really depends on genes, not so much on nationality I'd say. People mix blood everywhere and everyday now.
