What would have happened if Gandalf had succumb and took up the One Ring? Would he have been able to topple Sauron himself?
Would there have been anyone even able to stop him at that point?

the eagles famalam

he would've turned evil and destroyed everything

Gandalf says Saruman could challenge Sauron if he had the ring in the books, so I guess it's possible for an Istari (wizard) to become powerful enough to win. In that case they would just take Sauron's place as the main manifestation of evil in Arda, just like how Sauron rose to that position after Morgoth's banishment.

The ring can never die, it just gets sent back to its realm, so now sauron fucked himself , he could be powerless there now, gandolf purposly had the ring destroyed, so he could claim for himself in secret without other gods seeing him and claim it for himself unseen.

If Sauron could change his shape/size, why didn't he just become 500 feet tall and destroy all of man/elf armies with one stomp?

because that would require way more power than he had

He'd declare himself king of rainbows, like sauron after he tried to take over hobiton. All the elves btfo

Gandalf, Sauron, and Saruman were all of the same race/species (like demigods/angels of the Middle Earth universe), so in theory Gandalf would have been pretty much unstoppable. I don't think he would have been quite as strong as Sauron at his peak, but it wouldn't really matter.

I wonder what evil Gandalf would look like, though. Corrupting the men of arnor? Using the hobbits as some kind of slave race?

The ring was weak because there was still a dwarf ring that wasnt corrupted

When gandalph first came to the realm all the elves called him weak

The elves also thought that Sauron was basically Middle-Earth's version of Santa Claus before he tried to enslave them all. The elves are stupid.

>I wonder what evil Gandalf would look like

Probably like a socialist. Well meaning but very destructive. When you consider his conversation with Denethor where he states that he's not so concerned with the men of Gondor itself but with Middle Earth as a whole, he would probably operate under the Marxist philosophy that individuals can and should be sacrificed for the greater good which will eventually lead to all sorts of genocide or democide, and tyranny just like every other prominent socialist leader.

Elves are truly retarded they should stick being whores like in mmorpgs

Wasn't Sauron the strongest of the angels? Like he dwarfed Gandalf and Saruman in power even before he was evil.

You're thinking of Morgoth. He was the strongest of the Valar. Sauron and Gandalf were Maiar which were basically just servants to the Valar.

No I mean Sauron, was he not the strongest of the Maiar?
They are definitely not equal since Gandalf was considered one of the weaker ones.

owned.

I don't think they were ever really officially ranked but yeah Sauron was definitely stronger than Gandalf.

Them movies are so fucking bad

That's not real

That's not in the film, it can't be

Children of Hurin movie when?

I'm really glad I skipped these movies.

wtf am i seeing

Gandalf could have become more powerful than the weakened Sauran and would have become another dark lord. Remember, the Ring contained a large amount of Sauron's power and when he lost it he was greatly damaged and weakened.
>Sauron with ring>everyone
>Gandalf with ring>Sauron without ring
Sauron was the strongest of the Maiar, sort of like the Archangel Michael. So Gandalf and Saruman were both far inferior to him.
He could change his form, not make himself more powerful. Sauron was strong, but not strong enough to one-shot enormous armies. He also lost the ability to change his form after the Fall of Numenor.

>Sauron was the strongest of the Maiar, sort of like the Archangel Michael. So Gandalf and Saruman were both far inferior to him.

He was the strongest follower of Morgoth but not the strongest Maiar. Sauron couldn't touch Melian, hell Morgoth couldn't even fuck with Doriath until Melian left the city. Plus Sauron got defeated by Huan but I'm only guessing he's some sort of Maiar.

What a stupid movie.

I love your kind

We love you to. Just don't look at us in the eye or touch us.

Yes, Sauron was the strongest of the bunch. I wouldn't say he dwarfed them, but Gandalf was legitimately afraid of him so he was certainly stronger. At the same time, though, Sauron had put most of his power into the ring. So Gandalf with the ring>Sauron without the ring and it's not even close.

*strongest of the Maiar in middle earth

There were some in Valinor that were stronger, can't for the life of me remember their names though.

He didn't have that type of power. Sauron's greatest strengths were manipulation and craftsmanship, he wasn't the type who could go rampaging through enemy armies on his own (which is part of the reason he lost the ring in the first place).
