Fuck you i liked it.

it was funny

ne'er do wells do well

a coming of reddit story that came at the right time.

I didn't know when it came out. I still don't know now.

I always thought the people that liked it were either just on the hype train or just had really, really particular taste.

sweetness mainly, it would have just been a quirky oddity but the ending made the nerd reject in us all shout "Huzzah!"

A couple of good jokes, overall weirdness and iconic scene at the end.

%%IT WAS COMFY%%

Uncle Rico being based.

I'm afraid of rewatching it though because I basically turned into Kipp.

Bow to your Sensei.

I learned how to sell more breast enhancement products.

the girl a cute

postmodern nostalgic for the retro

the guy who played napoleon was good at being autistic

i think this movie contributed to the kind of humor you see in average young people nowadays

I too enjoy black chicks.

Its Mormonkino

It's nothing special, but makes me smile (not laugh) everytime.
It's golden.

That fucking soundtrack with the electric piano. Maximum comfy

>misreading the movie

i took a sign language class and couldnt stop thinking about the happy hands club

it's not a comedy
it's a modern day tragedy

Tots

You would have to have spent time in shitty small towns as a youngin' to understand.

It was also comfy.

You gotta remember the times. America was pretty stressed out over the War on Terror and half the country feared George W Bush would end the world.

It was a quirky little movie that wouldn't offend anyone. Same reason everyone decided to like Little Miss Sunshine.

>Mormon """"""""""humor""""""""""

What's it like not being white?

It made for an interesting challenge because they had to keep it clean.
Clean humor is harder to do.

Gentleman Broncos was better

Very dry humor that when high was extremely enjoyable

It really is the quintessential comfy movie. Not just the soundtrack, rural setting, and meandering plot. It's the fact that there really isn't a bad guy in the movie. Rico seems like a pedo, but really he's just trying to make a buc and appear cool. The blonde chick seems like a cunt, but all she really wants is to win class president. Her boyfriend seems like a bully, but all he really does is smirk when Napoleon acts autistic. Napoleon is actually the biggest asshole in the movie, but he's autistic so it's forgivable.

By the classical definition it's a comedy.

This movie kickstarted the whole "That's SOOO random" humor trend that really took off in the mid 2000s and found a lot of popularity with the people who would later become hipsters by the end of the decade.

I never really got it, but it does have a certain charm.

I think the internet is more at fault for that trend.
Most of the humor in ND isn't really that "random"

People who were alive in the 80s.

youtube.com/watch?v=SGMLt1duqhg

best part

Your mom isn't random

It's just ridiculous. The first time I saw this movie I got really fucked up with my friends and showed up 20 minutes late and had to sit in the front row. As soon as I looked up at the screen I started laughing and pretty much didn't stop for the whole movie. I can't explain it really. It just hit a nerve and kept hitting it

Don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day

Your mom went to college

I liked the music and it was very mellow, I remember my school had a few guys at Napoleon tier. I think everybody's did honestly during the late 90s and early 2000s.

It was a breath of fresh air after all the dudebro comedies like American Pie.

people who say this shit is "comfy" are insane, it's the most uncanny shit ever. it feels like a limbo of middle america in the mid 70s. just total nothing

That's kind of the point.

You get it. At the same time you don't.

odd deadpan absurdist indie humor

>Came out 13 years ago

I liked it, I don't have to explain the appeal of it.

It depicted small town America with no arrogance.

Ew gross. Who would post this?

Make me feel bad because i identify with Napoleon.

HAHAHA HE DAN C E FUNNY HAHA ICONIC HAHA

>Come get some ham Tina
>Your mom goes to college
>Pocket steak
>Shading on the upper lip
The part where he throws the fruit at Rico's van

Autism

Wait, what was the iconic scene? His dancing?

this desu. really accurate picture of growing up in the middle of nowhere.

>tfw you will never be able to throw a football over them mountains

>rewatching Napoleon Dynamite
>realise it literally has no plot
>mfw Napoleon Dynamite is actual kino

How much you wanna make a bet I could throw a football over them mountains

Yeah? What about the dude who shoves Napoleon against his locker at the start? Obviously he gets bullied.

10 years but still feels

shit nvm it was 12 i couldve swore that movie cam out in 06 and not 04 but i guess not

That guy is autistic too, but he's bigger

I saw this when it came out and I was a kid, loved it. Have watched it since and still love it.
I'd argue that it's one of the, if not the only, comedy movie this century to have actual artistic value, aside from political comedy garbage.

I only saw it so I could laugh at the lines everyone laughed about non-stop in high school when it came out.

I suppose I wasn't disappointed.

Man the bit with the fruit and the van was awesome. When Rico chases him and they have that little standoff, and Napoleon falls off the fence, jesus christ the autism is off the charts.

>Do the chickens have large talons?

Literally /ourguy/

havent seen this yet. do i like it?

mormons and mormon 'humor'

It's cute, a little quirky, and pretty funny. See also their other movie, The Sasquatch Gang. It's similar but I'd say probably even better.

Groundhog day is clean
Princess Bride is clean
lots of good shit is clean
Napoleon ain't anywhere near as good

Yes. It's very good.

kino comedy
kinomedy

It was unique, at its time at least, which made it stand out.

youtube.com/watch?v=uW63KKSUyU4

kino

This. it was made for people at least 20 when it came out and live in rural America. They got it. Everyone else pretended to

cringecomedy

Why don't either of their mouths close?

>Lots of good
>Names two examples

Sure showed him.

Everybody in that theater hated you, for the record.

why was it good? One word:

Uncle Rico

I was talking about the wedding you plebtard

It's just very endearing.

The humor, the "plot", I don't find ND that funny, but it has a sort of innocence that I find super charming.

Redditors like things that are ironically and deliberately fucking awful

I've never thought about that but yeah the chad in the movie doesn't ever go out of his way to be a dick to Napoleon. Worst he does is question him about what he did over the summer knowing Napoleon will give a crazy ass answer.

Not necessarily. You don't have to be from the era it draws from to appreciate. I loved it as a teen despite not being old enough to remember the 80s meanwhile my parents hated it.

Napoleon Dynamite is idiotkino.

Few other movies are as geniune in their vapid moronicness

The movie actually takes place in 2004. It's supposed to show how out of date and behind everyone in that town is.

I know

It's "you had to be a teenager in the early-2000s to understand" kino

YOU THINK I GOT WHERE I AM TODAY BECAUSE I DRESSED LIKE PETER PAN HERE? FORGET ABOUT IT!

This.
Its the quintessential coming of age kino of the early-2000s.

>Walk down the middle of the street everywhere
>Hit up "the store"
>Rent some random movie in a disentegrated case
>Present no identification of any kind, return whenever, if ever
>Buy home made candy and warm coke
>Go watch on the shittiest tv and VCR ever made
>comfy overload

one of the best parts of the movie was how inanimate some of the extras were, like Pedro's mom or sister was just sitting on the couch, Kips clients like in the "Dang It" video just stand there, Pedros cousins not doing much interaction (fun fact the two cousins played the twins in breaking bad)

also, there isnt really a scene that isnt unique from the others despite its setting in the middle of buttfuck idaho and each scene is as memorable, funny and charming than the last. from Rex-Kwon-Do to "i said the 12 pack not the 24 pack..Get some pampers for you and your brother while youre at it"

>Groundhog Day
>Clean
Heh. Was really clean when Murray went and dug around some random gal's past so he could use it the next time to fuck her and marry her because fuck everything.

Yes, yes nothing matters but that was a pretty scum move.

To this day Napoleon Dynamite is the best portrayal of life in an American high school I've seen.

Your mom goes to college

Don't forget about stealing the gopher.

That isn't Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
