If you think Avzhia sucks, but you like Deathspell Omega with their post rock inspired black metal that's more incoherent/pretensious than pretensious post Obscura Gorguts is good then you dont know black metal. All you need to do it listen to covers of DSO. Their songwriting sucks. On their debut they released mediocre Norway inspired black metal. That didnt workout, so started a new gimmick. "In my Domains" by Avzvhia has nothing in common with first or second wave black metal. It has clean production and it was released this decade. If you think Avzhia sucks, then elaborate as to why. They have good composition, are non cyclical, vocals are good, they got a signature souns they built up, riffa are good too, it isnt a carbon copy, and above all they have the atmosphere. Deathspell Omega sucks because they are another rockbandd posing as a metal band. They are as bad as fruity pseudo prog Cynic, gimmick ridden Dream Theater, angsty Opeth, and Mastodon.

I think it's derived from 'butt rock', see urban dictionary for the definition of it. I don't think there's one agreed upon definition, but it's you know it when you hear it kind of thing
So here's how I understand it, at least: butt metal is that kind of radio-friendly, mainstream metal sound, that was heavily influenced in particular by Metallica's S/T and Pantera's 90s albums. Features usually include:
—simple, conventional rock song structures
—focus on catchy hooks/choruses
—usually over-processed, over-produced sound (such as with too much compression, scooped EQ etc to make it sound more appealing)
—overall focus on marketability, with general inoffensiveness, trendhopping, simplistic lyrics, etc.
Most nu-metal and alt-metal was basically it.
