Damn, i'll miss Capaldi. Truly he was the golden age

Where can I watch Doctor Who online? I've been living under a rock apparently and just found out it's been removed from Netflix.

He's still got two series to go, m8.

If they really do fire him and replace him with a sexy young actor we should start a hate campaign against the BBC.

I thought there where two special (the one from this year and the next) and one series left for Capaldi

He and Moffat have repeatedly implied that he wants stay on when Moffat leaves. So if he doesn't we know he's been asked to step down/fired.

He will leave at the end of series 12. BBC Marketing will have a field day with that. It'll be a huge fucking event. Series 12, and the end of 12, 12 episodes, ending on 12/12/19

user, no. We all love Capaldi but he had a good run, don't be butthurt.

So you don't mind if the BBC scapegoats Capaldi for not being young and sexy enough?

I don't believe in Doctor Who anymore, it's lost it's way. We need to see fucking, we need to see carnage. I have written a spec screenplay which has been described as 'Timelash meets A Serbian Film', how can I get it to Chris Chibnall?

G-g-guys?

How it is scapegoating? The show exists for two reasons: to sell toys and to exert 'muh BBC' emotional leverage on Americanized breeder normies. Having a odd, old actor in the lead doesn't make sense, especially if you're then going to continue doing plot arcs about his emotional life with his hot young companion. Get a hot guy, get the girls watching again, get back to making money from plebs, it's a good plan.

fuck off tumblr

>2 GOAT Series
>2 GOAT Christmas Specials with a possible 3rd
>Possible GOAT 3rd Series

How will Chibnall compete?

Amazon Prime has all NuWho.
If you don't want that then you gotta Torrent m8.

>2 GOAT Christmas Specials
A Christmas Carol and? Day of the Doctor wasn't a Christmas special.
>2 GOAT Series
Series 6 is GOAT now? I enjoyed it, but that's a bit much.

Wot? I was talking about Capaldi Who not Smith.

They cast the wrong black woman as Capaldi's companion!
What happened to the Nicki Minaj series we were promised???

If you're being serious then I hope you die.

All of Capaldi's episodes were shit except for the last one though.

shit b8

They eventually decided to go for a cheaper option. Mackie signed a year-long contract for a tenner and a packet of revels.

Ironic when the business model you're in favor of is pure tumblr socialism:
>spend one of British TV's biggest budgets on something unappealling to audiences
>ignore any loss of profit, just keep plowing it in
>wilfully extend the life of an outgoing leader's mistakes
>tell off anyone who doesn't like the product as if it were their job to like it

- what's your endgame?

What happened was, they know full well that in the current climate, they can't have the same sexual bullshit between the Doctor and a black companion, because middle England is Sup Forums now. So they get an... interesting-looking companion who won't have any sexual chemistry.

>Also read the pie story since it was built up as something nsfl but was disappointed since I've been on Sup Forums for longer than a week
yeah gallifrey_immigrant fucked it up by heavily referencing it and building it up at the start of the anthology for some reason. even the story title itself doesn't refer to the pie aspect at all

Just horrible. It's like he decided to base a character arc on the Wikipedia article on 'Mary Sue'. This did incalculable damage to the show.

Do you fags talk about Class in these Who thread?
I thought it stank. It was awful. Horrible characters acting horribly.

They were pretending it was worthwhile for a few weks, but I think they've dropped it now.

>Do you fags talk about Class in these Who thread?
we go on and ond and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on

>Hell Bent
How do you go from one of the absolute best episodes of Doctor Who to one of the absolute worst?
Did Moffat do it on purpose?

>How do you go from one of the absolute best episodes of Doctor Who to one of the absolute worst?
I don't think Hell Bent is anywhere near that
All the scenes where Clara is not in are top Doctor Who
And the ones where she is are fine too
The main problem with the episode is that the story is focused on Clara and not in the return of Gallifrey

Chibnall: the next Doctor will 'kick arse and lay pipe'.

Hell Bent isn't the worst episode ever, but it might be the most disappointing.

You mean lay arse and kick pipes.

>they can't have the same sexual bullshit between the Doctor and a black companion
the controversy would've boosted the ratings severely. Nicki Minaj and Capaldi sexual tension was the only way to save the show.

I can guarantee you that all of /who/ wanted this, anyone have the image of Minaj and 12 in the field? I lost it.
She was supposed to be the new Time Lady companion.

>lay arse and kick pipes.
Kim Kardashian confirmed as the 13th Doctor

Telling interesting stories about characters and ideas, not ""products"" for ""profit"".

Ha, now I know it was bait. You're so fucking stupid it hurts.

>I'm stupid because you missed threads
okay.

Most disappointing for me is definitely The Doctor's Daughter. What a fucking bait and switch.

What Christmas music are you listening to, /who/?

All I want for christmas is Whoooo

That was cute.

Alrighty /who/.

I'm writing a term paper over Doctor Who and how fan culture has affected it. Basically gonna write about how it was responsible for the revival, but right now it's killing ratings because tumblrinas hat Capaldi and want someone Tennant-ish in the role, Any sources you guys have or advice? If anyone's interested, I'll make the paper available to read and edit once it's finished.

IM GONNA NUT ON HER FARTIS

>Basically gonna write about how it was responsible for the revival, but right now it's killing ratings because tumblrinas hat Capaldi and want someone Tennant-ish in the role
First part sounds interesting, latter part sounds like a bad idea. I think the "women stopped watching because they don't like that Capaldi is an old man" meme is overblown to give people something to hate on. I mean yeah, you can find tumblr posts from literally-whos having that reaction, but I think you'll have a hard time finding evidence to support the idea that it made a serious impact on the show's popularity.

Yeah, the latter argument's just taking a vocal minority too seriously. The ratings aren't down because of tumblr, but because of BBC's pisspoor scheduling and marketing.

My advice is to give up. There's an interesting paper to be written there, since the new series was created and continues to be run by long-term fans, not to mention the dozens of books being written by fans during the Wilderness Years shaping the show, but if you're just going to do a "fangirls suck" piece then don't bother. You idiot

For the revival, the big one has got to be RTD's "Writer's Tale", but Doctor Who Magazine is also significant since it was the main source of information for fans pre-Internet

Obviously, that's not how the user would put it. Why are Doctor Who fans so pathetically touchy?

It's the writing, lads. Lots of plot to remember, but it's samey (how many episodes did the 'I visited you as a kid' gimmick?), and all temporary, or else futile. Nobody's immortal, except these two random whores; the Doctor is now billions of years old, but spent the extra years running in a circle. Shit like this, both ponderously heavy and dramatically weightless, turns normies off, and rightly so.

Fair enough. I'm in draft 1, I can easily make changes. In fact, most of what I have is praising Moffat and Russell for their handling of the show atm, and how incredible the wilderness years were for the fan culture.

Thanks my dude.

>there are people in this thread RIGHT NOW who don't like capaldi's "I don't give a fuck I'll do what I want" pyjama whoodie outfits
>they actually believe it doesn't suit his character when he's clearly shown to be a man who doesn't give a fuck and loosened up from his 'oh gee I dunno if I'm good' days after deciding 'oh actually who cares'

It costs too much for that to be an option.

If you've just made the leap back to an older actor and most of your mainstream audience are still adjusting to the old Doctor/young companion dynamic, having him dress like a nonce is a massive own goal.

We get it user, old man doctor is not profitable
let us enjoy him while he's still here before BBC takes over and designs by committee the chibnall era

looks comfy. I want to get a jacket like that

I've got a black one like that which I wear in winter
not a crombie but a 3/4 length coat
it's very comfy
I was wearing hoodies under it before capaldi did too

Nice projection m8.

Well, I would have enjoyed him a lot more without Clara. I find the idea of her suffocating to the show's options, and the execution inexplicably bad - Jenna Coleman cannot act. It was like watching a guy fall in love with a blow-up doll, seeing Capaldi enact the Doctor's obsession with her.

It looks like ass.

Nope, he looked like that.

Please do something worthwhile instead of praising two rich hacks for steering pleb fodder.

I'm looking forward to a soft reboot. Having it written by committee is obviously more responsible, and more akin to the classic run, than having the American-style 'showrunner' concept.

Is it 45 minutes or a two-parter?

we just had class which was just that though user

Also, the /who/ wiki is mostly jokes but it does have a good section about how much... "inspiration", putting it charitably... modern Who takes from Lawrence Miles. You might find that useful, since he, Paul Cornell and Gary Russell are probably the three biggest figures of the Wilderness era.

doctorwhogeneral.wikia.com/wiki/Lawrence_Miles

kek

Never change, /who/. No matter what I write, you will hate it.

lol thanks. I don't think the wiki counts as a credible source, but I'll see what I con do with it.

>credible

YOU'RE WRITING ABOUT CHILDISH CRAP, WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW FROM CREDIBLE

It's at least as credible as the official wiki's multi-page articles on urine and underpants.

do you think they've updated the articles about masturbation after class had multiple wank jokes?

...

Unfortunately, yes.

>Miss Quill asked Ram Singh if there was a "great big window of porn" open as he typed out the assignment Quill marked. Ram joked he was "spanking" himself and did the whole paper using only his left hand. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)

Can't use any wikis

What about in the premiere when the old lady at the shop told tanya I CAUGHT MY HUSBAND FIDDLING WITH HIMSELF ON THE STAIRS?

Will there ever be a Whitaker/Holmes/Cartmel/Miles level creative figure again?

You mean after Moffat leaves?

And Chibnall, presumably

J.J. Abrams?

So is Class really cancelled?
What about the Weeping Angels then? Or April in a Shadowkin's body? Or the Rhodian souls?

I don't think it's aired in america yet so they probably haven't made a decision
but as it stands right now I don't know how they'd be able to justify the money for a second series

archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/76472071/#76472171

have a look at some outsiders reacting to mongo's 'tism

mildly amusing
I was waiting for him to actually post mongo though

but that was a sick fucking cliffhanger
the show mostly sucks but i'd be pissed if that was it

best case scenario the weeping angels shit is just a lead in for S10
and by 'best case' I mean 'fuck I really hope moff isn't actually going to do something that stupid'

What's meant to be scary about a giant weeping angel? It crushes people? Do the rules regarding looking at it still apply? There's zero chance nothing will be looking at it so it'll just be frozen in place. I don't get how it's meant to be a huge threat more than it is just a great annoyance

The problem with that argument is that Doctor Who still makes a ton of profit for BBC Worldwide. (Doctor Who s9 was their top selling show after Sherlock Abominable Bride, for financial year ending 31 March 2016).

>one episode of sherlock sold better than a whole series of doctor who

>I CAUGHT MY HUSBAND FIDDLING WITH HIMSELF ON THE STAIRS?

why do you think he did it on the stairs?

I don't know, but it was wrong on so many levels

he would've been in between levels though

And? Still means Doctor Who s9 was BBC Worldwide's 2nd biggest selling.

And Doctor Who s8 was BBCWW's top selling the year before (a Sherlock-less year).

S8 did really well regardless; 9m for Deep Breath iirc

Still baffles me why viewing figures dropped so dramatically at the start of series 9.

The norm for any TV drama series is to start off with higher viewing figures, gradually fall, then pick up a little again for the finale and Xmas special.

Series 8 Capaldi didn't resonate with most of the audience well, usually when a show has a season that actually turns people away that's not felt till the following premier.

Combine that with them putting it opposite the Rugby and then airing it unreasonably late for a family show and it was just a bad mix.

On the upside it did better in America than it ever has, and the BBC have said before foreign success of the show is one of the most significant aspects of its income.

Series 9 had a really great word of mouth and it's had a years break to make people miss the show, so it's in a good position to have an upswing for s10.

Chan /who/ claim your waifu right now tho

I hope the superhero thing in the next one is just a huge bait
Moffat did really well with Capaldi

Oh look, more Weeping Angels.
