I think this is a dope prog album
shit thread
Recommend me some prog with female vocals please. I'm really enjoying Eskaton lately.
pic related if you haven't heard it
Obligatory
Also, Curved Air and Henry Cow
>tfw you have to play second-fiddle to Marillion for over 20 years.
These guys are super underrated. Their stuff from 1994 onward is some strong material.

Brazil stronk
Best prog ever recorded coming through
Why people praise this so much when it only has 3 good songs on the whole album and the rest is boring shit.
No one ever talks about this band
It's not even a prog album
yeah, it's much more folk and blues influenced than prog
My favorite prog albums are In The Court Of The Crimson King, Wish You Were Here, and Close To The Edge. Close To The Edge is interchangeable with The Wall imo.
Best Rush
Thoughts on the steven wilson remixes? I think they are pretty good.
>Close To The Edge is interchangeable with The Wall imo
pleb. ctte is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than anything roger waters was ever capable of making.
post underrated prog epics
youtube.com
>Close To The Edge is interchangeable with The Wall
the wall is great but it's not prog imo
Because studio recordings weren't really so much better than love recordings back then, it's my opinion that the best Yes albums is their live album Yessongs. That live version of Siberian Khatru is like infinitely better than the studio version, like to the degree I can't even enjoy the studio version anymore.
oh my god, please stop posting
i'm not the biggest fan of prog, but you guys should check out pic related, they're from the same guy and it's basically mellotron porn
Oh shut up we both know you've never listened to Yessongs otherwise you'd agree
I guess I should have specified it as "capable of making on his own." The Wall is pretty much just a roger waters album, whereas the albums before it had all members writing all the songs. There are a few exceptions like comfortably numb, but most songs on the wall were just roger waters. shine on you crazy was a collaborative effort.
Thank you for elaborating.
No
Nice arguments
Not really hidden gem, 6k listeners on last.fm but they are pretty fucking good.

Also Jukka Tolonen has some really good shit
i think roger's solo songs on that record are among the best it and floyd have to offer, but i'm sure i'm in the minority, and this isn't the thread for it anyway
Tbh, he is way to overrated.
As long as we're talking 10/10 Italian prog, I strongly suggest this little gem here. They were a band that realeased short pop vocal songs in the late 60s, and then, out of nowhere, made this single prog concept album, centered around the mafia. An amazing listen:
This. Annie Haslam is the best female (pop) vocalist of all time imo
My favorite Prog album
>pink floyd isn't prog
When will this meme die. At least use a detailed argument on exactly what qualifies as prog and why they arent.
...
I've always felt uncomfortable calling Floyd Prog as they started as darlings of the psychedelic scene. When Gilmour joined I think they took on more of a blues influence. I'm not saying that Floyd are a blues rock band but deep down in their music you can still feel it's influence. And that's not Prog.
I think that floyds are one of those band where you can't exactly pinpoint the genre of mysic they make and so you just refer to them as a generic label even if that's not completely correct.
Let' settle this once and for all:
Are Supertramp Prog Rock?
Sometimes.
>muh blues guitar
They still experimented plenty post Barrett and had concept albums and 20 minute songs. That's prog m8.
this is pretty cool mate, thanks
Best modern prog bands?
gazpacho, big big train, cosmograf, mystery, steven wilson/porcupine tree, kevin moore/chroma key/osi, airbag/bjorn riis, anathema, crystal bright, tin spirits, karnataka,
Idk but definitely not King Gizzard
>Kevin Moore
Hell yes. OSI and Chroma Key are so much better than any dream theater album past awake
Haken
Tesseract
Periphery
Native construct
>At least use a detailed argument on exactly what qualifies as prog
Rock music written in the western classical idiom
> and why they arent.
because most Floyd is blues based.
>They still experimented plenty post Barrett
not tonally they didn't, and that's what matters.
>being a contrarian for contrarians sake
Real strong argument pal
you heard anything from his new patreon album?
youtube.com
>tonally
What? As in sounds, scales, instruments? What do you mean
Nice. Leaving dream theater was probably his best decision creatively
Saying Floyd is prog is the contrarian opinion here, buddy. They ain't.
>They ain't
>Floyd is blues based.
You've never actually listened to the blues have you?
>jethro tull
more like regressive schlock
Close to the Edge is the epitome of soulless wank.
>I can't explain so I'll link wiki
Get fucked
Hi guys
prog
An Endless Sporadic.
proge
It's best work is on this record
are you sure about that?
Why are you spamming my old post in every prog thread?
got my hands on pic related and about to give it a spin. the cover art is great
Because people love concept albums! Seriously speaking I think that the album seems boring from a prog perspective but is actually a really comfy folk album and it's really good even if it fails as a prog album. You can't deny that Aqualung is cool as fuck.
Is this Rivers???
buck dharma
Mars Volta
Can a Porg make Prog?
I thought the same, until I've heard it again, and it clicked. Not a perfect album by any means, but it's fun as hell. 7/10
How can you honestly say that when Yessongs sounds like it was recorded on a potato?
greatest prog release ever coming through
also best prog artist of all time
What's your favorite prog album? Mine's pic related
has anyone listened to the new Eloy album? also what 70's prog bands have held up the best in the current era, I can't think of any bands other than Eloy. I saw King Crimson live this summer and they were dope but I can't see them putting anything new out soon.
Pic unrelated
I've only recently started getting into prog rock (The Mars Volta to be specific) and need some other bands. Can you recommend me some essential listens or your personal favourite bands or something?
I haven't listened to the newer albums but didn't Yes release like 2-3 albums on this decade?
About to go on a long trip across the country. Anyone got some good 70s Prog albums similar to King Crimson, Camel, Gentle Giant, etc?
>Essentials from the big 6 of British Prog
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Yes - Fragile
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Trilogy
>Other Essentials
Gentle Giant - Gentle Giant
Camel - Mirage
Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink
Rush - 2112
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Gong - Flying Teapot
Renaissance - Ashes are Burning
I didn't choose my favourites or what I thought were the best from those bands, but what I thought would make good introductions. And I'm biased towards classic prog, so branch out into modern stuff afterwards. Enjoy.
I tought that Pink Floyd was psychedelic rock.
they did but they were all shit
No such thing
I fucking hate punk so much
Thanks alot, m8.
If you like mars volta, go check out Yes first, you can hear that they were influential to TMV. Start with either Fragile or Close to the Edge
Wishbone Ash - Argus
Nektar - Journey to the Center of the Eye
Eloy - Oceans
Caravan - If I Could Do It All Over Again,
I'd Do It All Over You
Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You
Experimental and art rock also work. Prog doesn't.
...
Thanks boys
Traffic or some ELP
Fuck off. They're prog, deal with it.
One of the only modern prog bands that actually has the magic and doesn't sound like an overcooked noodle. Any other recs for modern prog that's actually good. (anything involving Steven Wilson is the opposite of what I'm looking for).
>Coheed and Cambria
Once and Future Band
I like Mars Volta, Liquid Tension and Gazpacho.
gazpacho - night
...
