>Dawn Oberg: Nothing Rhymes With Orange (Blossom Theory) It's not good that the most satisfying anti-Trump "long player" yet to surface comprises three compact download-only songs by a Berklee-trained Nashville-to-Frisco lounge DIY-er. But the not good part is the paucity of alternatives—Oberg is a serious talent who gets some nasty licks in. The title track marches smartly from "A walking slab of brain damage beneath a bad toupee" to "He can't grab my snatch but he can bite my bloody rag" without deigning to utter the name of the "orange-tweeting twat" who rhymes with "dump/And stump and chump and bump and lump and hump and slump and rump." That dirty business done, Oberg declines to address him again. Instead she delivers a rhymed disquisition on "double-blind and peer-reviewed" empirical method that's over faster than Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame" while repeating "We all enjoy results of scientific inquiry" three times just in case some dumbass missed the point. And then she bids us and history adieu: "I can see the sunset burning at the end of the world from the end of the continent/The final frame of this ill-fated experiment." "I'd Rather Be Wrong," that one is called. It doubts she is. A
>Tim Heidecker: Too Dumb for Suicide: Tim Heidecker's Trump Songs (Jagjaguwar) Satire is too good for this potbellied pigwad, this flab-dicked jism drizzler, this ADD SOB, this pustule in a truss, this snake oil salesman in a cancer ward, this, I don't know, real estate man. Loathing is all he deserves, and loathing is hard to put into words, so that even a rhetorician as committed as comedian and challenged singer Heidecker has trouble finding language beyond the magnificent "Imperial Bathroom," a detailed description of *****'s black, rocklike, KFC-informed feces that's keyed to the useful catchphrase "Trump dump" and culminates by predicting he'll die on the porcelain throne. But to be fair, "Wilbur Ross" and "Cooked Chinese Chicken" do pack bite if not bile, as does Heidecker's account of his own brave death in the dungeons of Trump Tower. And "Sentencing Day"'s fantasy of ***** shitting in a pail and/or hanging in the sun is kinda sweet. But where's last spring's Father John Misty collab "I Am a Cuck," a sharper song by far than "Trump's Private Pilot," which gets a Misty remake for musical cred here? Face it, Tim—*****'s pilot is licensed to kiss ass. Motherfucker attracts toadies like a sump full of lily pads. B PLUS

The utter impotence of liberal artists in the face of Trump and their total inability to create an anti-Trump work that has some actual bite and impact to it is pretty fascinating to me.
Trump should be such an easy target for satire and criticism and yet every entertainer or artist who's ever attempted to really rip into him came out of the whole thing looking like an emotionally stunted child. I really don't know why that is.
Justin Gutierrez
>Trump should be such an easy target for satire and criticism and yet every entertainer or artist who's ever attempted to really rip into him came out of the whole thing looking like an emotionally stunted child. I really don't know why that is.
I think it's BECAUSE he's such an easy target. It's hard to bash Trump without sounding like a Captain Obvious type. Every criticism against him sounds so trite and infantile because any mentally developed human that knows anything about Trump already knows everything people criticize him for, so even if you're hearing someone complain about Trump for the first time in your life, it sounds like a dead horse is being beaten.
It's kind of amazing in a horrible, terrifying way. He's actually so stupid and hapless that the people who mock him seem like the childish ones who are stating the obvious and going with the grain of public opinion. Like Dubya but on steroids and all of the people who grew up hearing their parents whine about Dubya sharing dumb flash games about him are old enough to have political """opinions""" so they rebel by siding with the mongoloid in office that can be made fun of simply by observing him and making factual statements about actual things he thinks, says, and does.
Isaac Long
christ he looks just like John Fahey in this pic wtf
Asher Brooks
am I just stupid or are these reviews nonsense?
Jackson Williams
its uninspired because every criticism of trump is weak
David Evans
first time reading a christgau review I see. these are actually substantive by his standards

he has dentures! haha!
Christopher Ward
right? everyone already knows hes a sexist and manipulative bucket of shit that just fucked the middle class harder than Reagan with this tax plan, but yeah, dentures.
Henry Allen
According to who will that "fuck over" the middle class?
Anthony Collins
Well said
And, in all fairness, it's because many (if not most) musicians are rather childish these days.
Nathaniel Mitchell
According to many economists. Do you not know how to google?
Many middle class families will be worse off because of the cuts to Obamacare. Many will have to essentially pay back their cuts in their Healthcare bills. And many won't be able to make certain deductions anymore, so it'll balance out their cuts, or they'll actually end up with a tax increase
Robert Price
I just know that money will trickle down someday, we just gotta wait! In the meantime we need to make sure the struggling billionaire Job Creators® no longer suffer under oppressive Liberal taxes

It's working. Cry more, soyboy.

It all reminds me of that Bush-era Cboyardee video where GWB is caught under a net and he wears an Islamic star and crescent shirt & just yells "war criminal!!!" at him for like 2 full minutes

Goddamn if Rundgren can't still write a catchy-ass hook. Gonna be humming that for the next few days.
Leo Scott
Liberal comedians cant hurt him either because he is a literal walking meme.
The problem with the libs is they forgot how to make art in the obama years. They got too complacent. Turned into these milquetoast neoliberal moral police (essjayydoubleYOUs)
If you want to make a anti trump album dont attack trump. Attack the system which gave us trump. Attack capitalism, attack neoliberlism, attack the democrats too.
Be a fucking artist about it. Use themes, symbols, be subtle.

The easiest way to make an effective Anti-Trump recording is to just make a disc of various dumbass shit he's said from his own mouth.

PFFR is a good example of how to do it right; they rip on rednecks and upper middle class white saviors and ignorant minorities and everything in between that contributes to modern hell. You cant champion the democrats because the democrats are centrist status quo neoliberals. The same people who bailed out the banks, expanded the private prison industry, outsourced jobs.

Left wing musicians need to take a general anti elitist stance. This includes liberal elites. They need to become populists.

The ones who do that don't reach the general public. You either have to sell yourself to the jews or slither in eternal irrelevance. And by selling yourself, you pick up the liberal stance. They can do their thing scot-free while you shit solely on conservatives.
Telling the people they're stupid will certainly convince them they've been doing shitty decisions, trust me on it. Our artists down here do exactly that, and guess what? Trust on them and their general message are at an all-time low.

Trump deserves all the shit he gets and more but if you're gonna deliver hard hitting political commentary at least say something refreshing that isn't "lol he's orange and fat and a nazi fascist he eats 2 scoops". Make a song about people suffering because they lost their food stamps or something because of him, or a song about charlottesville marches, not just calling him a fat cheeto. That'd be more powerful.
William King
I disagree, no one over the age of 30 would vote for an actual socialist. I think his support would have plummeted with young undecideds after it was made public that he was just a stooge for Clinton. The "we have to fight the establishment, oops I gave all your donations to the establishment" picture sums it up. I think something a lot of people don't consider is that both him and Trump were so popular with young people because they wanted to vote against the status quo, not necessarily because of party loyalty.
Charles Powell
Don't get me wrong, I dislike Bernie's politics, but you can't deny he had a good grasp of the general public and their needs, even if he eventually would fuck things up in the long run.

trump is too easy to make fun of. he's like a self parody already. all of it just sounds so contrived and late night talk show tier. reagan was a bumbling demented fool too, but he was revered by the establishment, so there was a little more punch when they ripped on him. trump though, the man's just so ridiculous and over the top already and everyone already hates him and makes fun of him, you're not really saying anything iconoclastic or interesting because we've already heard it all.
Owen Russell
There's little doubt he would have. He was far more likeable than Hillary or Trump, had a clean record, and stuck to his message. Also, Clinton lost a lot of votes when it came to light that the DNC was conspiring against him--those votes basically went to trump.
Robert Morris

>All the people from the states that voted for him that are dying from oxy overdose.
that was happening long before trump was elected
Tyler Powell
>a stooge for Clinton Are you really this fucking dense, or is this just a piece of rhetoric you like to spew?
Sanders knew that Clinton was the only thing that stood in the way of Trump becoming president. The fact that most of Trump's positions and policies were antithetical to Sander's would have played a pretty big part in his support for Clinton, don't you think? Not to mention Trump's dubious civil rights records and unappealing personality traits.
Jaxon Hughes
Young people who voted Bernie voted Clinton because they were so terrified of Trump. They bought the whole literally hitler propaganda. I don't think they'd care about that if Bernie ran again. They just want the free college and health care. Plus Bernie knows how to tap into that white working class populist anger that won Trump the election because he understands policies that would benefit them, and he actually has a track record of fighting for that so they'd likely flip to him too. CNN and other msm rags may have preferred Clinton, but they'd definitely back Bernie against Trump and give him more of a support machine.
The one thing I could see hurting Bernie is the social left, the idpol sect, the tranny blm pop feminists. Every group outside of college aged millennials and NY/CA hate that group. I think ultimately economics will trump all though.
William Stewart

The problem is the Democrats are a clusterfuck right now. Who are they going to run against Trump? Biden, Sanders, some token black woman no one's heard of, Warren, Zuckerberg? >until a vacation home and Audi are offered up, right? Uhhh... sure, user. Whatever you say. It would be extremely ironic if you voted for Donald "this tax plan wont benefit me" Trump.
Nathan Long
Truth, this is why democrats never vote either. They always want the perfect candidate and don't turn out if they're not passionate, unlike GOP who vote for any ol retard that can sign off tax cuts.
Sure neoliberal democrats suck, but they're preferable to people who just want to suck even more corporate cock and cut social services completely.
Trump's campaign was closer to a populist style campaign than any Republican. It's clear the people want it, the middle classes are tired of getting dicked around by corporations and special interests. The rubes just fell for Trump's marketing.
Evan White
