I love my country and I love the military but I'd say no. Join a gun club,practice hunting a lot, join or hang out with people like the IDPA and learn defensive hand gunning. The military is great and all but Obama has done his fucktard best to fuck them up as much as possible. It could be extra stupid and dangerous. Consider becoming a cop in a rural area and learn some of those skills. Get in good physical and mental shape, stay away from drugs and alcohol. It's not a bad option I suppose. I'm leaving for the Navy next month, and there is a bevy of benefits if I play my cards right. Qualifications, pays for my education, adds job experience and training to my resume, gives me a lot of money at a young age to hold on to (ideally), commands respect from most people (even if I don't want it/don't give a shit about being a "warrior" etc), allows me to do some traveling and other things.
It's really not a bad route, just don't go and do something pointless and moronic like marines or any infantry position in a branch essentially, no point getting your legs blown off by religious farmers who hate themselves more then they hate you, it's a shitty way to go and there is no glory in it.
