So why didn't Leonidas just let this dude fight with them?

So why didn't Leonidas just let this dude fight with them?

>inb4 muh formation

Right, so why not just let the guy hang around outside the formation and let himself get killed or maybe even take a few of the Persians with him if that's what he wanted to do?

Because thats kind of a shitty thing to do?

Maybe let him hang out on the back, finishing off half dead iraqis

How?

Leonidas is just a dick

Spartans left deformed children exposed to the elements, they were practising eugenics essentially. This guy was disgusting to them, Leonidas was just being polite.

Leonidas was a eugenicist and a despot. That's the thing with even the most white washed propaganda, some of the truth oft times comes out anyway.

Because he didn't want to hang out with a cripple.

Imagine trying to look all bad ass and then have this crippled dude off to the side. He would just be like a short bus caboose.

Essentially this right here, pretty historically correct in a sense compared to a lot of other elements in the movie.

spartans took pride in being the best disciplined and physically-able army during their team, allowing a cripple wandered into the realm of 300 carefully chosen warriors would be a insult to not only the squad but to the nature of being a spartan itself

Same reason people don't invite you to hang out with them.

They offered to let him help by moving bodies right? That's one way to contribute to the war effort. Why don't we have cripples in our fighting army? It's simply inhumane and the soldiers don't have time to be babysitting someone so they can feel special about themselves.

He was offered to stay at the back.
He insisted on fighting in the front but he couldn't hold up his shield. Even if the spartans weren't strict elitists he'd be useless to them. Why didn't they kill him on the spot?

Because he was an eye sore

Yeah they gave him the opportunity to help. In addition to being a eugenicist, I just don't think Leonidas wanted to risk bringing in an unknown element. This guy was stalking them prior, so already his trustworthiness is questionable. But he didn't want the cripple to die in vain on the battlefield, and he didn't want to risk losing men that might have wanted to help or rescue the cripple.

He was strong, so he shoulda just "yo fuck you dawg", took a couple swords off bodies, and just go berserker mode on the persians on a flank.

It's specially stupid because they literally show spartans not in formation killing the wounded enemies as the main line advances.

He wanted to be in the formation though. If you have 300 dudes carefully selected to reach physical perfection and perfection in warfare you don't get to invite the retarded kid into your ranks.

>why don't we just lower the standard for women so they can also become soldiers? I'm sure there's something for them to do on the battlefield.

>inb4 muh formation
>in other words: I don't like that excuse give me another one. One that I like

snowflake alert

>be leonidas
>4'11 deforemed midget approaches you
>asks if he could fight so someone could represent tumblr
>try to be polite and say no
>midget is persistent
>realize that you only have 300 dudes in your army, so another dude wouldnt hurt
>you try to put spartan pride and squad morale aside to let the midget in
>'sure bro, but you stay in the back, youd do more harm than good in the front'
>midget goes apeshit
>BUT I WANT SHOTGUN REEEEE
>you decline
>midget later sells you out

it's also a kind of shitty thing to tell your enemy about a secret passage that will let them ambush and kill your ostensible heroes

Because he didn't even know who the guy was or what his intentions were. I would have told him to fuck off too

>muh hindsight
>muh why

Considering that the only time they get in any kind of formation was at the complete ass end (and Spartans loved ass ends), all that formation talk was so much hot air.

killing deformed babies is more humane than letting them live like that. spartans are pretty cool guys

It would be the equivalent of letting a crippled hunchback join the Marines without training during a battle.

because the spartans were the real life embodiment of
>the weak should fear the strong

pretty sure they were in formation when the persians blocked out the sky with arrows

Why don't we let cripples join the army?
Good question OP.

Besides, Leonidas seemingly expected a lot from his fellow greeks, and likely didn't anticipate the betrayal.

He was an abomination that should have died. If he let it fight with them, it would have been a mess. It has little to no training and would have compromised the entire group more so than it's betrayal. It's a lose lose as soon as he enters scenario, unless Leonidas kills him right then and there, which is what he should have done.

fight me

>tfw i look like the hunchback

Leonidas was incredibly autistic and also a narcissist

Chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

Because it's like letting a toddler fight just because he really wants to. You're not doing anyone any favors by allowing it to happen. At best he dies a worthless death in combat. At worst he compromises the entire unit.

this

Not really, they actually break formation throughout the movie. It would have been easy, let the dude fight in the front line, once the battle begins and everybody breaks off into their slow motion sequences, kick him over and let the Persians spear him while he flops around like a fish.

What do you call this formation again?

youtu.be/D0xSqLrG-ow

The chippendale?

Do you think the battle was only about 45 minutes long? Why the fuck do people always think the battles in movies are chronologically done as soon as the scene ends. It's like you think World War 2 was over in a couple weeks because Band of Brothers timeskips between each episode.
If the movie was 8-24 hours long your pee brain would explode from having to pay attention for so long.

>why do people think the battles were like the battles shown in the film?

Hold up there m'junior military historian. It doesn't matter what reality was or could have been. It matters what the movie showed and the things it said about the things it showed. As it was, none of those assholes stood in formation for more than a minute at a time.

>We have to form a shieldwall. We're useless without it.

>every single Spartan spends the next 45 minutes doing ballet fighting solo prequel jedi style against a horde of super polite barbarians.

If they weren't polite they wouldn't have taken turns running into their swords like that.

>be Persian
>heard of the might of Spartan warriors in combat
>ready to die the on the day of battle
>sees a degenerate with a spear in the frontlines of the Spartan army
>you shit yourself from laughing
>everyone is shitting themselves from laughing
>the Spartans seeing their enemies laugh at them, start to question their existence
>everyone throws their spears at the abomination including the Spartans

You are woman if you don't understand what army morale means

>denying help because of some arbitrary physical expectation
>implying they couldn't find a place for him in the defense

dated alt righterina detected

read the fucking post again you dunce mother fucker

Leonidas, despite his deformity agreed that he could help fight with the spartans in the condition that he fight in the back, but the midget refused and insisted that he fight in the front, in short;

>Midget asks Leonidas if he could fight in his army
>Leonidas terms is that he fight in the back
>Midget says no
>Leonidas says no

Leonidas isnt the bad guy in this

He offered him a chance to help his people working in the background because despite wearing his father's equipment he was no warrior and despite being a cast-out of Spartan society, he could have earned a place of honor by obeying his king.

That angry manlet gonna betray them one way or another

Why not just let him fight with the Athenians?

>let's take one of the most iconic last-stands in history, a defining moment of western civilization, and turn it into a shallow action feature with a homoerotic villain and plenty of insane monsters

At least the story of Othryades is still untainted.

Because the Athenians would sodomise his asshole

Why didn't Leonidas just kill him right at the spot, when he asked about joining the squad. It would be just for a few seconds to stab an weak deformed dude. That way he wont be joining, weakening and embarassing the whole army AND wouldnt go to betray them and tell the secret path.WIN-WIN situation

Why fight in front of the entrance not the choke point?

How retarded is this movie from 1 to 10?

>Why fight in front of the entrance not the choke point?

There's no room for ballet prequel jedi twirly bullshit fighting in one of those "choke points." They need more room for all that non-formation fighting they had to do.
