There's nothing hip hop in their music. Of course there's a rapper, but rap doesn't always mean it's hip hop. Their music doesn't contain hip hop beats.

you have severely misinterpreted what grime actually is.
Death Grips at their worst are still putting out instrumentals that are more layered than anything else in the hip hop sphere, and I'm saying this 100% unironically. Of course it being more rhythmically complex does not mean the music itself is always better, but I so rarely hear production that can compete with them.
Take something as small as the kick-drum on The Fever, this is a relatively accessible song but would any other hip hop act have something like that? There's a reason their beats feel so much more visceral and human than any other hip hop act out there and that's because Zach performs them all electronically, it's not programmed loops, the music is shaped around the amazing shit he is able to pull off and it results in this really richly textured material.
