Learning moonrunes here and I would like some opinions from people who already made it. I've being half assing kanjis for 3 months now and I want to go at a decent pace from now on. I've read some people saying that 20 kanjis a day is completely doable. I know it's a matter that goes from person to person, but how many kanjis a day you guys learned? I find it hard to believe that I could get down the writing/kanji itself/ pronunciation and meaning of 20 kanji a day. Should I just skim over it and just get the meaning/kanji itself and not focus so hard on the many pronunciations it has and how to draw it or I just need to git gud?

Also, any recommendations on a tool to practice writing? I've been using most sites and apps to learn so I don't think I'm doing enough practice with writing them.

So せい in like in 学生 or 先生 is pronounced as せえ and not セイ like, saying せ and い together, but just a long え after せ, right?

I'm doing 20 kanjis a day with KKLC, and 20 cards a day with Core2K/6K. I don't focus on the pronunciations nor the vocabulary in the KKLC, just the meaning.
I'm using a graphics tablet to practice writing, I write new kanjis a few times and that's it.
I'm still a beginner and learnt some mandarin when I was younger though, so don't listen to me.

You don't need to be spoonfed how to learn Japanese, learning and what works best for you is completely subjective. The only important thing is to at least consume Japanese content, whatever it is.

Frenchie is right, when learning Kanji by themselves, focus on meaning and how to draw them.
You only learn readings in context, from vocabulary. Most people do 20 vocabulary words a day, not kanji. But you can do 20 of each if you feel like you can handle it, it should really strengthen your fundamentals.

you should also keep in mind that people here are full of shit at times and/or vastly overestimate their abilities, especially anki drones

18 months here, I can read it without straining myself. I'd say 1 year should give you enough contact with vocab, grammar and mileage to read this simple stuff about most subjects you might come across. A semester if you really put hours into it.

Just learn how to write it(so you can recognize it) and also the meaning.
Learning the individual readings takes too much time and IMO is basically useless outside of context. Learn readings via Vocab, even for individual Kanji, though it probably wouldn't hurt to glance at the kunyomi

I can read around 1000 kanji and write maybe 10. When I was still doing kanji with anki I was doing 5 new kanji plus reviews in less than 10 minutes a day

I'm 500 cards in and the heteronyms seem like they're starting to become more common.

How do you guys deal with those? Do you just recall every word and definition you know that matches the displayed kanji?

I try to recall every pronunciation and meaning, but I don't merge the cards. As long as it's one of the ones I remembered, it's a pass.

I can usually remember which definition I saw last so it's not much of a problem for me right now. Might be once I hit 3k.

Make sure to avoid learning stuff the wrong way. Fixing errors sometimes takes longer than learning things correctly straight away. If you learn a Kanji by writing it the wrong way, and keep writing a certain part of it with the wrong stroke order, you might end up having trouble with looking up a similar kanji because your stroke count for said element is off.

If you talk to native speakers, then make sure to get feedback on everything you're not completely sure about.
