Since the start of the 20th century, has Russia come out with any good music?
For such a big country it seems so irrelevant. Did the Soviets' simply have too much of an overbearing hand on the arts for creative stuff to be made?

>Did the Soviets' simply have too much of an overbearing hand on the arts for creative stuff to be made?
Imagine being this culturally illiterate.
OP here. I understand Russia's 20th century contributions to the arts as great - Russian cinema is a prime example. Post-50s censorship was relaxed, but it was still very restricted. Tarkovsky eventually left the Soviet Union, for example, and his films had to be cut down by censors.
>Did the Soviets' simply have too much of an overbearing hand on the arts for creative stuff to be made?
soviet russia had great classical talents (shostakovitch, schnittke, ustvolskaya) and later when censorship got more lax underground talent (letov, makarevitch, grebenshikov)
capitalist russia in comparison is a mistake
EДУ B MAГAЗИH ГУЧЧИ B CAHКT-ПETEPБУPГE
basically this. So, nothing of actual value, really
I'm a beginner in pyccкий. Does this mean "go to the Gucci shop in St Petersburg" and, if so, explain.
Are you serious? Many of the greats of Russian classical music composed in the 20th century. Stravinsky, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Khachaturian etc.
Outside of classical.
They have good glitchy electronic stuff too
Outside of classical no countries matter besides the US, UK and Germany
1992-2001 russian alternative rock was pretty good to be desu.
You can literally listen to all good Russian songs in GTA IV
its a line from a song by a russian Lil Pump
There were pretty good music, from deep underground to some well-known bands (e.g. Kino, Aquarium), but eventually they wouldn't be relevant in the first world (probably, aside from Soviet avant-garde, but I don't know much about it), since they were either adapting western genres or singing mostly about the realities of life in the USSR (Vysotsky's lyrics), not quite relatable to western people.
Some of the club music with videos of models drinking vodka greater than us trap or UK anything m8
Nah communism wiped out any shred of musical creativity. For the Slavs, look to film and literature. That's where we excel...but music? Oh I am laffin.
It basically means (I'm) going to a Gucci store in St. Perersburg.
If you wanted to say "to go to ___", you would say 'Eхaть" or "Пoeхaть", not "Eдy".
Eдy - going (right now)
Eхaть - to go
Пoeхaть - to start going
It's pretty hard to explain it but I hope I helped you??
Also, here's an example of western sounding, but not very well-known stuff in Russian from 1992:

Sure thing we suck, but sometimes I dig into our music just to figure out if anything has changed.

Well at least I recognised it was a form of 'to go'. I kind of presumed it was imperative (not an infinitive), though clearly I was wrong and it's a participle. This was a helpful comment, cпacибo.

What can you say about her vocals? To me it sounds like one of the voices from a children's chorus from some kind of soviet adventure movie for teenagers. It's very rare voice these days for a singer.
