What are some good Chinese kino?

What are some good Chinese kino?
Don't care if it's propaganda.
Preferably in Mandarin.

god I hate that cover

>the two character never even meet
>Ziyi's fucked up left hand

awful

This is one of the most beautiful martial arts films I've ever seen. Is there anything else like this?

Fearless.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
House of Flying Daggers.
Curse of the Golden Flower.

ashes of time
fearless
a touch of zen
house of flying daggers
swordsman

Hero is propaganda, but it's also a window into a subset of Chinese philosophy called legalism.

Very interesting.

Well if you want beauty you can just watch the director's other films. The set designs and art direction in his other films are amazing, non-martial arts or not.

It's more interesting when you see the director's change in politics. His early films like Raise the Red Lantern and To Live have a anti-authoritarian approach to them. Where as in Hero it's the opposite.

Granted, it may just be a case of different times.

Hero's director Zhang Yimou made great movies in the early 90's:
>To Live
>Raise the Red Lantern
>Ju Dou
Also Farewell My Concubine is worth checking out.

Then there's Edward Yang from Taiwan
>Yi Yi
>The Terrorizers
>A Brighter Summer Day

and Kar-Wai Wong from Hong-Kong when he made movies with Christopher Doyle because WKW is a hack without him
>Days of Being Wild
>Chungking Express
>In the Mood for Love
>Fallen Angels
>2046

if you like slow paced arthouse then check out Tsai Ming-liang
>Rebels of the Neon God
>Goodbye, Draong Inn
>What Time Is It There?
>Stray Dogs

>Preferably in Mandarin.
Then you want Taiwanese films, not Chinese.

In The Mood For Love is kino

are you retarded?

HUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRR

Three Kingdoms (2010) is all you need to watch.

...

>WKW is a hack without him
no

and fyi Doyle only shot about half of ITMFL, the other half was shot Hou Hsaio-hsien's main DP Mark Lee Ping Bin

Let the Bullets Fly.

...

Makes you hate Japs.

...

Are you? Why don't you go google the official language of Taiwan for me, you ignorant twats.

Is this guy serious right now?

look up the PRC's

more than a billion speak Mandarin and they don't all live in Taiwan bruh

>they don't all live in Taiwan bruh
Who the fuck said they all do? But you know, Taiwan is a modern westernized asian country thats had an established and recognized film industry for years. How many mainland directors have oscars?

Red Cliff

post maor

That is pretty cool, actually. I guess that transformation is reflected in the film. I'll have to check out his earlier work.

Curse of the Golden Flower is pure kino

...

I thought it was tacky visually, but I liked the ending.

>captcha: select all images with tea

Visually, it's pretty much Chinese Baroque

"Warriors of heaven and earth" and "the emperor and the assassin" are some good wuxia kino

But only for the story. I don't think any chinese film can approach the style and visuals of zhang yimous work.

And yeah, Wong Kar-wai's love trilogy is a must watch if you are into unconventional romance stories

>Watching first IP Man movie
>Ending monologue makes it sound like China made Japan surrender in WWII

>Granted, it may just be a case of different times.

More like huge amounts of government funding

The Warlords with Jet Li.

Seriously fucking good movie.

That movie was amazing, and the women clothes of that period were boner fuel.

w2c 130 min. version of The Grandmaster on blu-ray with good English subs?

Johnnie To knows how to do action/crime/drama kino.

While im here, consider some of Johnnie To's movies.
>PTU
>The Mission,
>Drug war.

etc

Also INFERNAL AFFAIRS goes without saying.

Kung Fu Hustle

One of the finest comedy kino ever made
