trap
>melodic noise
melody is pitch changing in time, noise by definition has no pitch, what the fuck
skweee
>shoegaze
>"post"-anything
fucking music journalists my dude
>Intelligent Drum and Bass
I invested quite a bit in my INT stat to wield that shitty sampler
Disagree with both of these, I find those names really cool
math rock
dungeon synth
love the genres, hate the names, I avoid saying them IRL
trip hop
>Intelligent dance music
>Intelligent Drum and Bass
Was specifically made to be background music while you work or study.
Yeah IDM is my thing but it's one of the dumbest sounding and unfittingly descriptive genre names there is.
About 0.4% of it could even be danced to.
What affiliation even is there to EDM, I was going to say "it's electronic" except it's not really. Boards of Canada primarily uses hardware and when they don't it still only sounds "electronic" in most obtuse way.
Anyone got an idea for a better name?
I nominate `Subscript`
The hell is dungeon synth
Sounds intriguing. And fun
how to tell my classmates that i listen to idm without prouncing ‘idm’ and other retarded words like ‘braindance’ etc?
"You ever hear a washing machine with a loose nut?"
"Yeah it's like that"
post-rave
> Boards of Canada primarily uses hardware
What do you mean?
>clearly doesn't know how shoegaze got its name.
For me, Pop Punk. Its a literal oxymoron.
>Sounds intriguing. And fun
It's not, just ambient shit but with a "black metal" theme to it
Dungeon Synth?
youtube.com
check it out, its pretty cool.
>Boards of Canada primarily uses hardware
that still classifies as electronic you dunce
How did shoegaze get its name?
>literal oxymoron
It is literally not, unless you have a strange definition of the word punk.
The bands spent so much time looking at their effects pedals and not looking at the audience.
the earlier bands who played it live would gaze at their shoes because of all the pedals they had to worry about
>Rot and Roll
>they unironically answered
That's actually fantastic
Recommend some unintelligent dance music
Any dance music, that's why the name is dumb
well to be fair you have to have a pretty high iq to get into aphex twin

gabber, happy hardcore
I've heard that term applied to artists like I Am A Lake Of Burning Orchids that use harmony and melody on top of noise, I don't think it is intended to mean literally "melodic noise".
Progressive Jazz Funkwave
Riot Grrrl
EDM
Shoegaze is literally the worst.
>conscious hip hop
shoegaze, punk-rap

THIS
And staying with electronic music, EDM is something I've always disliked with a vengeance. Just a way too broad of an umbrella term that tends to get pretty much every electronic genre under the sun lumped under it.
Like sure, I do listen to some electronic genres that are often put under the "EDM" tag, but that's something I'd personally never say I listen to. Guess it's the knuckledragger connotations or something.
>trip hop
Same here. I guess the "trip" part comes from the certain psychedelic qualities trip hop usually has, but what the hell's with the "hop" part?
>Brostep
But that's a great genre name. 100% on point - tells you it's something you want to keep the fuck away from.
>but what the hell's with the "hop" part?
It is ethereal, "trippy" electronics blended with hip hop style sampling.
