Only kids who went in expecting FF7: The Movie thought it was bad.
All this time later and it's still the greatest CG work ever made, everything else is either derivative garbage (Avatar) a fancier cartoon (Everything Disney/Dreamworks etc) or a game tie-in.
The CGI was very hit or miss, some held up very well while other parts looked sub-PS1 CGI.
I went in without expectations, and it was pretty blah story and character wise. It literally felt like everything was based around the fact that it was fully CGI and nothing else (like some of Square's other projects).
There was no reason this needed to be called Final Fantasy either. I didn't go in expecting it to be a FF game, but jesus. Oddly enough, some parts kind of felt like FFXIII visually.
Fuck, Kingsglaive was a superior CGI film to this.
Jeremiah Powell
>Complaining about the quality of CGI in a literally 15 year old movie and comparing it to something that came out this year
Have fucking mercy. Also it actually did share a lot of themes with the FF games of the time, except without the usual fantasy setting. The whole lifestream thing especially. I thought the characters were well done for a sci-fi romp.
Lucas Morris
>There was no reason this needed to be called Final Fantasy either.
Probably thought they could market the movie better since Final Fantasy is a big name in vidya. If I remember right this movie was coming out around the time Xbox, PS2, and GameCube.
>you will never play demos of Luigi's Mansion and ported Half Life in Sams Club ever again
Josiah Perry
I absolutely agree. It remains still the best CGI movie ever made, but unfortunately the story itself falls flat with characters so mechanical to be believable.
Beowolf is also another great CGI movie which people hated even though I enjoyed it.
Christian Torres
>why does everyone hate [movie I saw when I was 12 and thus will think is awesome for all time because otherwise I'd have to admit my childhood was shit]?
>this is bullshit, [movie I saw when I was 12 and thus will think is awesome for all time because otherwise I'd have to admit my childhood was shit] was awesome! I'll make arguments that ignore all the flaws with [movie I saw when I was 12 and thus will think is awesome for all time because otherwise I'd have to admit my childhood was shit] and play up the inconsistent strengths!
Lucas Sanders
>she ranked over some real women in the magazine
they must've been pissed
Oliver Rogers
I watched it last time not long after the release and I remember liking it, but I hadn't played the games
Asher Wright
roasties btfo
Jaxson Wilson
nipple on the right
Nolan Gomez
I really liked this film, it was very different from the games but I didnt mind that and the story was very romantic in the sense of nature. It was also very philosophical. Yea I need to get this it was pretty good.
Elijah James
fuck off schofield
Jeremiah Smith
>Imagine being Sakaguchi
Colton Gray
It's amazing that Dr Alex could probably rendered in real time on an average desktop PC now.
Lucas Scott
mfw I got that Maxim mag in the middle of puberty
Hudson Scott
fuck that you fucking fag. Listen to me, and listen good. I'm only gonna say this once. fiinal faaaaaaaantasy is for.....faaaaaaaagoooootttttttssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Charles Johnson
>Beowulf I need to re-watch that.
Aiden Sullivan
I remember the way they tried to hype this movie up before release. Non stop articles and news stories with click bait sounding questions like >Will this spell the end for movies as we know them? >Are actors even needed? >Will movies even be psychically filmed anymore?
Basically they tried to push the idea that you NEEDED to see this movie because it was going to completely transform movies as we knew them.
Sebastian Young
I wish it had. Imagine a world where you can cast whoever you want without relying on physical appearance
Grayson Price
Any sfm porn yet?
Zachary Price
I remember being blown away by it when I saw it in theaters, I was 12 and never played a FF game
Haven't seen it since then, maybe I should give a rewatch
Noah Cruz
They pulled the same shit with Avatar and it obviously worked much better.
What went wrong?
Mason Wright
ProJared told me it was bad
Brandon Barnes
Avatar had actual worthwhile CGI?
Brody Morgan
If you're a normie that's not used to crazy video game shit then sure yeah
Austin Brown
Just not underage and was able to see the craze avatar created first hand, many of the people I knew saw it upwards of 3 times on the first day.
>that reply Literal, unabashed kek.
Nicholas Brown
I was in my late teens when Avatar came out. The CGI is impressive but it's only a groundbreaking " LOOK AT THIS WONDERFUL ALIEN FANTASYLAND" if CG fantasy landscapes are a novelty to you.
Nathan Williams
>The CGI is impressive but it's only a groundbreaking
Technology, development, pretty much everything to do with CGI. You know, something you would know. >lying on the internet You know, you was baiting you with the age thing, quite a common occurrence here, you didn't have to answer ya know? The fact that you do answer means you are lying, why the fuck are you backing yourself up, I don't know you.
Should have not replied, desu. You are just being a simple contrarian.
>If you're a normie that's not used to crazy video game shit then sure yeah
Seriously? You now call it groundbreaking. Make up your mind, child. Your argument is literally - >I PLAY A LOT OF VIDYA >THEREFORE IT'S NOT IMPRESSIVE >KEK YOU FIND THAT IMPRESSIVE?!?!?!
Robert Harris
Dude no one cares about Avatar.
Michael Hughes
Calm down man
Christopher Reed
>gets btfo >just calm down man Every time.
Leo Wood
dude's right. Anyone who played Halo in 2001 (or 2008) shouldn't be impressed by Avatar,a movie that made over 1 billion dollars then everyone forgot
Juan King
If you won't calm down at least give me some of your adderall
Angel Baker
>a movie that made over 1 billion dollars then everyone forgot ironically that's actually what happened
Camden Sanchez
Wouldn't say masterpiece, but I still enjoyed it. Loved Kingsglaive way more personally, action and CGI were awe-inspiring.
Liam Wilson
It's super shitty
Wyatt Anderson
I decided to watch it again recently because my younger self didn't give it a fair oppirtunity and I had forgot pretty much everything the movie was about.
It was still shit. I can't believe they made the best looking CGI movie for the next decades but couldn't wirte something that wasn't a borefest. Next time I need surgery I'll ask the surgeon to put this movie during the operation so I'll be sure to sleep through it without anesthesia.
Anthony Gonzalez
Animated action movies have always been poorly marketed. Each one has been a failiure for the industry. It doesnt hurt just the studio, but every studio who looked into doing that genre.
Titan AE Spirits Within 9 Beowulf
Most of those movies use animation as the medium incredibly well. Their stories are good. I think 9 suffers a little by trying to be spooky and different and lacking in actual narrative.
Avatar obviously pulled off the action CGI genre by being "live action" and marketing it to adults not kids. I hope we get more animated action orientated films. Shame we didn't in the 80's and 90's during the 2D era.
Id love a REAL final fantasy movie based on an early final fantasy game too.
Jayden Thomas
>Spirits Within I was like 10 or 11 when this movie was released and I remember having this picture that my brother acquired from a CD with media of the movie.
It was the first pic I masturbated to And not the last
Also I opened the image with MS Paint and did a really shitty edit to make her look naked. I even used the spray brush to make her pubes.
Good times.
Nolan Bennett
>Their stories are good They're really not
>Id love a REAL final fantasy movie based on an early final fantasy game too. Check out the OVA based on FFV. It's also bad.
Aaron Hernandez
>They're really not
Well then keep watching whatever cliche tropes you eat it up.
>Check out the OVA based on FFV. It's also bad.
Can't trust your opinion, it might actually be amazing.
Sebastian Sanders
I liked Beowulf but can confirm the FFV thing was bad
David White
>Well then keep watching whatever cliche tropes you eat it up.
>Titan AE >Spirits Within >9 >Beowulf
>not cliche
el oh el
>Can't trust your opinion, it might actually be amazing. Go ahead and watch, your shit taste will enjoy it.
Nathan Barnes
you've only ever brought up things you dislike. I talk about things I like. So yea, thanks, I guess I'll live to enjoy things and be happy unlike you :)
