Does this picture help explain it?
>Childhood is when you liked Allison pre-makeover
>Adulthood is when you realized the makeover was necessary
Allison's problem was that she felt like she was being ignored in her home life by her parents. So she acts and dresses like an autist and sperg to get attention from people so that someone would actually talk to her. However, that just drives other people away and she doesn't have any friends which she admitted to. Molly Ringwald giving her the makeover was her way of connecting with Allison and getting her to open up with the outside world. Allison became a lot more approachable and she liked how easy it was for people to talk to her, but she still retained her personality as evidence by her taking Emilio Esteve's varsity letter at the end of the movie.
I thought it did but the inclusion of felecia day really threw me off
