Amazing Visuals but shit story with no real symbolism.

Good for painters and the keyframe illustrations for the film at top fucking notch, but not great for anyone else and is laughably horror.

>no real symbolism
What do you mean? There was plenty of symbolism. The problem is how on the nose most of it was.

Excellent movie

Great production value.

Jesse is young and beautiful and pure

Older models and lesbian envy her and each covet her in their own way

gave me insight into the way all women's brains work, so valuable even though I didn't enjoy it much

It was okay.

Plebs think it was deep because it uses surrealism, but actually it's just surface level and pretentious

Suppose I should have been more specific or chose my words more carefully.

When the film first appeared, most people were raving about how deep the symbolism of the film is and how layered it is.

In reality, the film is rather shallow and despite how everyone raved about the symbolism, it wasn't deep at all, but it is very visually appealing to watch and is honest about the modeling industry today.

...

>When the film first appeared, most people were raving about how deep the symbolism of the film is and how layered it is.

Literally never happened but nice fake claim

I can't really decide if i like despite seeing it three times. Regardless it's haunting and unforgettable

Jena Malone was a head witch with two underlings who helped her kill and eat and bathe in the blood of a young ingenue with a dark side. She creeps on her two cohorts while bloodtubbing to one of the best OST tracks I've heard in a long time. Then a bunch of blood spills out of her pussy. The rest of the movie is really stupid, including the unnecessary music video credits set to the worst song on the soundtrack.

I think that all it's praise is over the top.

It looks good, but not great.

The music is good, but feels like everything else that uses that style.

It's just alright in every way.

Refn is a hack

Unsatisfying
Good imagery
No boob shots of neon demon iirc
Bad acting

Worst movie I saw all year. I liked all the actresses. I just dont think it was worth my while. Its not as good as Spring Breakers. I don't know what to compare it to.

Tribune, AVClub,a whole bunch of spanish reviews that claim that it is religiously symbolic and is all a reference to the blood of a Virgin and witches and is super deep such as cultura or cinemania's review.

A lot of people were saying that it is shallow and blunt, but a good number of reviews kept going on about surrealism and how deep the film is for no reason and how everything means something else.

Keanu is NOT the guy to portray a loli raping slumlord.

Meme Movie 9000

pretty pictures for a couple hours

literally nothing more

He's the worst actor in the movie

Easily 5 top five pic of this year. Refns still got it

GOTTA BE SEEN

REAL LOLITA SHIT

I heard this movie was just a copy of Black Swan

fucking great, don't let people fool you, I still like drive better but again I haven't seen it since 2011, I mean which other director does it like refn like improvising and letting the film grow organically like fucking a 10 out of 10 just fine

No he doesn't.
He's plateaued

WARNING WARNING

UNKNOWN PRESENCE HAS APPEARED IN THE PLEB FILTER

WARNING WARNING

PLEASE HOLD UP YOUR PATRICIAN CARD. IF THOU DOES NOT HAVE A PATRICIAN CARD THEN THOU MUST RETURN BACK TO WHENCE ONE CAME

It looked and sounded amazing but the story/symbolism was laughably obvious and hamfisted, and the corpse fucking scene was just pointless, in extremely poor taste, and came across as being for shock value.

Very fun movie that would have been much more impactful had it not been marketed as horror.

Ruby lusted after her and was a borderline pedo.

The other model who had plastic surgery ate her.

So did the other because she wanted her purity and innocence.

A mandatory inclusion in any respectable person's top 10 of 2016

man, you could grate cheese with that chin

Looked good but lacked substance

*It doesn't matter how it was marketed
I only heard about it through Sup Forums and genre was never mentioned

How a movie is officially labeled means little, if it's good it'll be recognized either way. Gone Girl was called a suspense thriller or some other catchy lure.. it was a horror movie

>Implying I dont already shave, slice produce and grate cheese on the faces of models

It did matter because going into what was marketed as a horror film, I kept wondering "when will something scary happen" and when it finally did my reaction was "that was it?". If i just expected a Refn film about a girl trying to make it and then THAT happened I'd have been shocked and it would have been much more impactful.

What other people said, it's very paint by numbers for a surrealist "deep" film, and while you won't hate it while you watch, you'll realize it wasn't worth too much at the end. You could cut it down to about 40 minutes, if not less, and get the full effect.

Now, if the main girl had gone full narcissist in the middle of the film instead of at the end right before the only interesting thing, the ritual, took place then maybe. As it stands, the last 10 minutes are the only unique bits.

this is why i don't watch trailers for anything I think I'll enjoy

>Pusher
>Valhalla rising=OGF
>Drive
>Bronson
>Neon Demon
>Fear X

glib facsimile

Explain me "food or sex" line and eye shit

>The Neon Demon™
>it's about semen demons
what did refn mean by this?

Style of substance, it looks and sounds fantastic but the story is very underwhelming

The shower scene with blood made my peepee hard.

He's the worst actor in any movie he's in. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good-looking and charismatic guy, but how he even got an acting career is beyond me to this very day.

Enjoyed it, but expected a bit more desu. The visuals made me regret not having seen it in theaters.

Best masturbation fuel to come out of Hollywood in years

Uh? Four dubs, that makes my peepee harder.

Like was it about pride? Vanity?

Was the final act about sincerity? Is it better to mask one self?

>tfw everybody ignored my achievement

Feels bad man

>pirates it
>"I expected a bit more"

I pirated it too, but people like you need to go fuck themselves.

I bought the blu-ray, you fucking cunt.

Absolute kino.

Problem is everyone went in expecting something deep, but it is just a horror movie about narcissism, Refn even says so.

>current year
>retards still thinking they should expect from a movie what the marketing tells them to
>being this dumb

10/10 post

eh ok then

The camera loves Jena Malone.

The overpriced Mac product of cinema. All style, no substance or functionality

Checked. She had a small role in Nocturnal Animals too. I kind of like her

>this goblin is the most beautiful girl in the world
Fuck this movie.

She needs a new manager, she hasn't been in a good movie in years.

Style done interestingly visually but not in a way that evoked anything tantalising or emotive.

Ultimately an embodiment of everything wrong with modern cinema, capitalist emptiness without any of the humanism that exists in something like Herzog or Tarkovsky.

Visual beauty or ecstasy only works in tandem with emotive experience, a sort of unification.

This doesn't seem to exist in Refn's films, he is still childish in his approach, he has the right idea but not the correct execution.

He made the same mistake with 'Only God Forgives'.

This is why Drive is more iconic, it connected the visual ecstasy with the humanism of the main character.

>This is why Drive is more iconic
Drive isn't iconic, it's just a meme generator.

Try not to think like a child, thanks.

Cry about it if you want to, Drive isn't an iconic movie.

There is no great "humanism" in 2001 either but it's the greatest film of all time.

Go cry in the corner and jack off to your copy of Crime & Punishment you obnoxious faggot.

>has more reviews that Jaws
>haha its not an iconic movie

kill yourself

I agree, though I wouldn't necessarily regard it as a bad thing. Art by itself is always artificial and there's nothing wrong with art that embraces it.

>There is no great "humanism" in 2001 either but it's the greatest film of all time.

Yeah I had the same opinion when I was 16, dork!

Don't bother replying

Most fashion models usually aren't conventionally attractive so I thought she fit the role fine. And besides, the point was to make her look as young as possible.

>I had the same opinion when I was 16
You had the same opinion 7 years in the future?

Try watching these films and then come back to me, thanks.

So I can tell you if there were any naughty words?

Ok, buddy.

We could have had a nice chat about film but instead you chose to give me a meme childish reply.

I know you don't find it funny, it's more of a ritualistic action for you to keep replying in this way but I suggest you get over it. I won't reply after this post, you had your chance to have a proper discussion. Enjoy trying to fit in.

Visually pleasing.

>you had your chance to have a proper discussion
I've still got that chance because there are enough posters on this site who don't think that memes are iconic.

Seems like you got confused between your posts.

Thanks for admitting you were samefagging in these two replies:

>I won't reply after this post
Ohhhh, kid.

You got trolled once again.

Thanks for playing.

>i was only pretending

Thanks for playing.

You're welcome.

Fukken checkd

I love rehn movies, but pretending they're deep is looking for what's not there. He makes pretty pulp movies, which is wonderful. However, Pseuds either pretend they're deep or HATE them cause they aren't.

Pretty good

One does not create art with meaning, they create art and people see what they want, Pseud

What's this symbolism you speak of? The only thing I noticed was the gepard and an underlying sense of danger.

>people always ignore the dream sequence
>people still think Elle Fanning's character is the Neon Demon

How could I ignore the dream sequence? I fap to it every time.

Pros:
>Great Visuals
>Great Score
>Pretty looking cast
>An interesting idea for a horror movie (Hollywood literally eating you up and spitting you out)

Cons:
>So fucking slow
>Story was boring
>Nothing was actually scary. There was a disturbing scene here and there but overall nothing disturbing enough to really unnerve you unless you're a normie
>Metaphors were everywhere and most of them aren't very thought provoking
>Characters didn't feel like people and instead just felt like walking metaphors
>A lot of scenes go on for way too long and it feels like there is no point to them

A music video can get by with a good music and great visuals but a 2 hour long movie can't. I can't recommend it to anyone because the pay off at the end isn't worth it. Its just too slow and there is nothing there is nothing to connect to emotionally. Plus the longer it goes on, the more it fails at getting you invested in anything happening.

3/10.

I guess its good to get off to.

>it wasn't deep at all!
>story was boring, nothing happens
>movie is so slow, why are they talking so slow? where are the quips like muh marvel cinematic movies!??!

things plebs say, lel

>>story was boring, nothing happens
>>movie is so slow,
Valid complaints for this specific movie no matter how much they trigger you.

>story was boring, nothing happens
>movie is so slow
but if the story is moving forward, even if it's a story not interesting to you, at a pace you're not comfortable with, something is clearly happening. Why is "nothing happens" such a common complaint?

>Tribune
>AVClub
>a whole bunch of spanish reviews

These publications and spanish people (if you can call them that) are unimportant

>and the corpse fucking scene was just pointless, in extremely poor taste
>poor taste

Nice try Lesbo Internet Defense Force

It's OK, my pp was hard too, and I'll check those digits for ya

If you take the film at face value...a simple story told in an unusual way...it's very, very good.
If you add layers to it, it's shit.
If you like horror films...it's quite good, but more of a thriller with some crazy shit happening at the end.
For me I adored it as a confection. Nothing more, Refyn is a very good pornographer.

I feel the first two thirds of the movie were probably Refns best because in contrast to what everone in this thread is saying, the characters felt real and compelling and it injected the movie with some humanity that his cold style usually lacks. I thought I was watching a masterpiece until a certain point, when suddenly he pulled the plug and all humanity seeps out and you are left with a visually stunning but utterly flat piece.

Definitely worth seeing though, Refn is one of very few directors in Hollywood who have a unique, distinctive and easily recognizable personal style. I just feel they lack an emotional core.

Biggest dissapointment by Refn. I liked the first 30 minutes and that's about it. Everything after that was awful

Cahiers named it third best movie of the year

...

>Explain me "food or sex"
They wanted to decide: fuck her or eat her. When she refused sex she became food.

best kino in 2016 desu
