They instinctually understand what to eat for survival. When you see a predator bring down its prey, usually they go for the belly first and eat the organs. Vitamins ADEK and various fats are stored in the liver, so by eating the liver, the predator gains those vitamins and a hearty meal. By eating a herbivore's stomach full of fermented grass, they get to eat plant matter pre-digested with the nutrients more highly soluble, it's both a carnivore and omnivore meal. And by eating eggs or fetuses/young offspring, they literally eat an ENTIRE other creature, which contains all of the nutrients necessary for life, in a small bundle that they can quickly put in their stomach and utilise. A greater predator could take the larger deer carcass from them, but they could carry the smaller part away quite easily, and once they eat the fetus, they have everything they need to go on living for the week and nobody can take it from their guts without killing them first.
