Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

>directed by the guy who made What We Do in the Shadows

Why did Marvel hire a Kiwi director who made a quirky, indie vampire comedy to direct capeshit?

They hire no-names a lot because they do what they are told and work for cheap. That's what the Mouse wants, not an expensive name with a vision.

I think you'll find it's titled
>Thor: RADnarok

This particular director has a very distinct style.

Directors don't mean shit with capeflicks.

They don't have much creative freedom anyways. They have a pattern they have to follow or they'll get fired.

The same director is doing Captain America 4: We Hold these Truths to be Self Shrevident

...

This is total bullshit by the way.

Doctor Strange was directed by a director that's known for horror movies and it was amazing

It really isn't.

I just want one good Thor movie. Please, dont be shit

but im sure it will be anyway

>doctor strange
>amazing

It was a typical marvel flick with a new coat of paint. How did it amaze you? It didn't do anything new or noteworthy. The CGI was the only noteworthy thing tbqh

James Gunn had basically full control over GOTG.

That's probably the only example in the MCU where the director had noticeable influence over the movie, and even then you can tell Disney made him follow a checklist.

>every marvel capeshit looks the exact same except for ant-man and guardians of the galaxy
>the former of which was half-directed by a hyper-stylized comedy-action director
>the latter also directed by a stylized horror-action-comedy director
>everything else by hack directors with no style except for progressively worse and worse editing and choreography

There's nothing wrong with a checklist.

Just because he said so? Just like how Ayer said that the theatrical version of Suicide Squad was his version? No creator has full control over any movie in a cinematic universe by definition.

>there's nothing wrong with an established pattern to follow for the sake of being safe to keep investors happy

Not seeing it.

First Avenger is clearly a Joe Johnston film.
Avengers has Whedon all over it
GOTG is James Gunn through and through
etc

Some like Thor 2 have nothing from the director but frankly I don't think there's anything from that director.

>>Just because he said so?
No, because I watched the movie.

Because they don't think of it as capeshit.

Its "capecomedy"

>Avengers has Whedon all over it

...and so has every MCU movie since.

Let me know when there is a real trailer.

>that idiot that was working on ant-man got fired
>movie is better for it

thank god, i hate wright

Not really, no. Just his two films.

Yeah you're in denial.

Do you think the fight scenes would be the similar to the ones in WWDITS? I would love to see Thor float around comically like that.

Good well hopefully it isnt shit because i liked his other movies

Not really, no. If you think GOTG or Doctor Strange are "Whedon like" films you're an idiot.

You should be hating pegg

why hate on Wright?

Explain your position better next time
>thinking fresh coat of paint is a good enough explanation

Hiring quirky indie directors worked out for them on several occasions.

give me your email, will do

Because they want Thor 3 to actually stand out this time, and it's supposed to be a bit of a buddy comedy with Thor and Hulk, so they're changing it up and hiring an indie comedy guy instead of a bland fantasy director as Thor 2 got.

They're clearly aware of how forgettable Thor 1 and 2 are compared to the rest and want to rehabilitate.

Does anyone still give a shit about this movie? I really wonder how long this comic book movie trend can go on.

>yfw Thor BTFO justice chumps

>tfw will finally get muh thor's helmet in action
fucking took long enough

Hire small directors for their films so they can pay them less and have creative control over the film. In turn the director has a big successful film on their resume and can do more of what they want in the future.

Iron Man 3 was a full Shane Black movie and yet people here still hate it. Becaus ethey're fucking plebs that can't understand capekino

Or because Shane Black is shit

>muh buddy cop humor
>muh lethal weapon iron man movie
kill yourself faggot

literally, BY FAR, the single worst MCU movie

>oh shit pepper might have powers
>lol no she is healed in 3 minutes

Still under the control of Disney though. Look at what happened to Wright.

He left after having 7 years to make his film?

don't respond to my posts ever again you dirty fucking plebs.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Wright back at Marvel.

He was pushing for a Squirrel Girl movie.

They're trying to find a director for Thor that would net them millions and they'll eventually tack him on if it works. They got lucky with the Russos, Reed, and Gunn and gave Favreau a three-pic deal.

Failed with Whedon though but they got Russos to back it up.

Hopefully he has a good concept of how to do the fight scenes.
Ironically enough, the most powerful of these superhero shits have the crummiest fights.

Yes.

I really liked it user.

The movie followed the source material
You want them to change that so retarded like you can say it something different?
Yeah let's make Dr Strange woman and now he has a mask on and it's also a robot and instead of magic he has a pet Goblin who grants wishes.

LIKE TOTALLY DIFFERENT DUDE XXXXDDD

That logo change makes it look like the tone of the movie was switched to Guardians of the Galaxy 2.5 rather than being the dark preview we saw in Avengers 2 where Thor has his shirtless vision under water.

Knowing some spoilers that vision will be spot on.

Can you explain what formula checks list you're talking about?

Is it like the DC Universe checklist?

-1st act, assortment of scenes that are basically transitions from set piece to set piece
- 2nd act, forced emotional scenes, random religious symbolism, paper thin motivations
-3rd act, big stupid cartoonish cgi-fest destruction porn

The DCU

This is true actually.

All 3 dcu flicks have the stupid laser beam to the sky as well.

Even the Suicide Squad film somehow had it. I thought it was supposed to be a funny team heist movie or something, somehow still ended with a giant blue beam in the sky.

Vision's in Thor 3?

It was more for Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The director has a knack for characterisation and banter which is what a Thor-Hulk movie needs to be strong in.

>indie director gets hired for big budget blockbuster
When has this ever resulted in an above average movie

I understood this reference.
