Which cover scared you the most?

>that fuckhuge Mask standee they put up at the entrance
th-thanks

Every time.

>Hey dad, what's beyond that swinging door?

>that one movie that had blood in the cover that you could push around
>that one movie that came with a free knife

I wish i could remember their names.

I vividly remember they had Pinhead at mine, spook level maximums

Pussy

holy fuck i was about to post this too. I was absolutely terrified of chucky covers on dvds. had to close my eyes in the horror isles.

eventually i gradually worked up the courage to watch a trailer on youtube frame by frame and pick up the dvd.

then i saw childs play and it was prety good, the sequel s were shit tho

>the holographic Jack Frost cover
Spooped desu

>I was absolutely terrified of chucky covers on dvds.

Gettin' too old for this place, fuck.

...

they had a terminator one at mine and it was fucking awesome

>walk through the horror aisle and scare yourself shitless by looking at all the box art
>have trouble sleeping thinking about the most horrible fucked up shit you saw on those vhs tape sleeves
>start to associate the smell of blockbuster with nightmares
>start getting butterflies in your stomach when your dad takes you to blockbuster and you inhale that vaguely plastic smell

Anyone else? This cover scared me the most, I dreamt up the most fucked up shit for years. Still haven't seen it, I should probably get around to.

they hung a fucking poster on the showcase, had to cross the street everytime

F

You think that's bad, I accidentally saw Child's Play on tv when I was like 10. They used to have kids wb on Saturday mornings, and for whatever reason that day they decided that Child's Play was going after the last cartoon.

I couldn't sleep for years.

I miss strolling through the video store.

This. Being a kid the horror aisle was like a candy shop. And who the hell could be scared in an overlit movie supermarket like Blockbuster? Poor kids only saw the end of the era.

you're like a little baby, I saw blairwitch project when I was still living next to a big ass forest and a cemetery.

>Demon Knight.

I love that movie.

this

You got me beat there, that must have been hell every time the wind blew and made noises

AHAHAHAHA fuck I need to see this. Isn't this the one with Michael Keaton?

Yeah it was pretty bad, but there's no actual visible monster in it to actually be scared of so as a kid I guess it's not too bad. iirc me seeing the first scary movie as a 7 year old scared me more, I was actually afraid of the scream murderer hiding under my bed and shit.

Also, I saw blade at a really young age which gave me a fear of vampires that lasted for like a year.

It hasn't really damaged me though, like what they say about how video game violence and movie violence and shit can make a person want to go on a killing spree or whatever. No not really. Complete bullshit.

>Passin through the erotic film aisle everytime i can when dad aint watching.
>Get a hardon just from looking at the covers.
Such beautiful and innocent times.

>Isn't this the one with Michael Keaton?
lol no

different movie, same name. I think this is supposed to be a horror parody of the keaton one

this

also, at gas stations where the top row has these hidden porn mags and you would pretend to be looking at donald duck magazines and you'd glance over to the top row. Good times.

Adult films were in a backroom at my video store.

>tell mommy I'm going to browse through the horror aisle real quick
>proceed to browse the porn shelves next to it

The funny thing is, upon seeing most of those films when you were 13-16ish (peak horror age) you'd realize they were a lot less frightening than how you imagined them.
So few VHS-era films lived up to their awesome covers.

The last time a horror film truly scared me I was 16 and watched House of the Devil while housesitting an old plantation house in the middle of nowhere that had this old black cat living in it that would dart around and make random banging noises all night.
Good spooks are like 75% context. People who watch horror in their house with their family/friends nearby with all the lights on and brag about never having been frightened haven't really been tested.

There was Blockbuster, all brightly lit.

Then there was the seedy videostore that had the shitty carpeting and porn in the back room

Shannon Elizabeth

Yeah, that's the irony. The cover really did use to sell the movie.

>early 90s
>be college aged
>go to local video store
>too self-conscious to go to the porn section
internet porn came just in time wew

What a pussy. Me and my friends liked looking at the covers.

This one funny enough.

Nope. The horror one came out first. I was very confused seeing ads for the Keaton movie because I assumed it was a sequel.

Grandpa please go

>blockbuster thread
>mentions dvds and youtube

Yeah no fuck you

BB, YouTube, and DVDs coexisted for a long time fampai. Your nostalgia can't rewrite reality.

God going to Blockbuster used to be such a big deal for the family. Like you'd literally have to get dressed and drive to a place and browse a bit for a movie. Now you just download the shit and move on...no more watching movies with the senpais..no more being told to drop the movie off in the return bin as your parents wait in the car..no more renting NHL 2002 and swapping discs because yours didn't work anymore...

Child's play came out in the vhs era. And when youtube was actually a thing no one gave a shit about blockbuster anymore.

So yeah no fuck you.

>why isn't everybody here 30 years old and still browses Sup Forums? :((

childs play is on dvd

BRO THIS

18+

You got dressed? The fuck are are you talking about?

I would just go in normal clothes.

What did you have a blue blockbuster outfit with a belt that looks like a film reel? Special bb shoes? The fuck man.

I'm 19

I never noticed until someone bitched about it in a bluray thread that he's supposed to be coming out of a VHS paper sleeve specifically because the tape is behind him. So it doesn't work as a non-VHS case or a poster.

I remember being 12, being entrusted with the family Blockbuster membership card and sent on my bike to pick up a movie. If it was R rated, dad would write a note explaining that I had his permission and had his phone number on it in case there were questions.

I wad terrified of dolls after Chucky.
I had nightmares about my action figures stabbing me in my sleep.

I mean we would put on a polo shirt and nicer shoes whenever we went to Blockbuster. Just like going to the movie theaters too. You don't wear sweatpants or shorts to a movie do you? It's a social event much like going to Blockbuster

TFW you first walked into the adult section of the video store as a kid.

Never noticed that. So cool.

DVDs were invented in 95. I had a few VHS tapes as a kid, but by 2000 they were mostly switched over. Assuming that childhood blockbuster experiences go until about 10 years old, most kids born in 1990 would have had some DVD experiences in Blockbuster. Are you just acting superior because you're 26 and browsing Monglian knitting boards still?

This is hot and cold at the same time.

You're one of those saddos who thinks vhs is going to "come back" like vinyl aren't you?

Sweatpants is your idea of normal clothes?

But I was just fucking with you. Still seems strange to me but whatever.

Anyway, I'm surprised no ones talking about renting games. I just remember renting glover over and over because it didn't seem good enough to buy.

I can actually remember the last game I rented from Blockbuster. It was Arkham Asylum back in 2011, and they were only doing 2 day rentals for video games. God damn did I get my moneys worth though. Beat it in those 2 days.

When I was like five, I was really scared by just the word "Hell" and shit.

That movie is fucking horrible, to an amazing degree. It features, as I recall, an adult woman pretending to be a child, in spite of her massive breasts. I would recommend it to anyone.

>Never mind, you little shit. Go wait outside like I told you

>rent SNES game
>old save file is still there
Best feeling.

>rent Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark from the school library
>get scared shirtless by the cover and illustrations and hide it under my bed to avoid looking at it
>start getting scared the monsters from the stories are going to come out from under my bed and get me
Man I was a pussy as a kid

Dude shut the fuck up. If someone sends a random fuck you your way do you sit them down and try to explain why it isn't justified? Just take your fuck you and move on spaz. Stop shitting your diapers.

Inb4 nerd rage

We had Blockbuster and two Movie Galleries in my area and they all lasted until about 2008 then closed up around the same time. Two of them are Mexican restaurants now.

Also people get killed by clip art

Fuuuck you just reminded me. I rented paper mario and I literally beat the game minutes before we had to return it at noon that day.

Oh man, I really need to watch it now

>rent some RPG you could never beat in a weekend
>someone else has a complete save file
>get to play the endgame
>return it
>wait a week
>rent again
>some asshole wiped the save

He's not even the guy you told to fuck off. I am.
Did you take your pills today grandpa?

It's extremely good

In after nerd rage

I always liked renting Gameboy games. The save file is saved to the cartridge, one time a got a pokemon game with all the gyms beaten and a couple of lvl 100s.

So when someone else gets a fuck you you feel the need to explain why it isn't justified for them?

Move on spaz.

And fuck you too.

>be 11 year old me
>pretend to browse drama section
>shove softcore porn tapes into my cargo shorts when no one is looking
>watch them at home when parents are asleep
good times

I remember renting gba games. But honestly I never usually saw game boy games to rent.

I think I was renting Gameboy color and advance games mostly. Should have specified that.

LITERALLY ME OP

Yeah this scared me too

>not saying: too embarassed to walk behind the curtin ;)

You biebers wouldn't understand

Really angry that your good years (such as they were) are long over aren't ya champ?
