Return of the Jedi

How would ROTJ have worked without the lazy option of a second Death Star?
How do you finish out the trilogy, what is the final threat?

The half finished Death Star is actually more badass than the fully constructed one to be honest

space battle above the imperial capital planet. no death star, just rebel fleet vs. imperial fleet. rebel ground forces attack imperial power seat on planet. same confrontation between vader and luke and emperor, but inside the emperor's castle instead of on the death star

It makes sense considering this was going to be improved
>they actually gave it a shield generator as protection

Plus had it been completed they would've fixed the flaw of the first being the giant ass exhaust port. If they finished it the emperor would've won, but they spent all the time on the laser, the emperors quarters and the hanger bay

wasn't lazy, it was a good weapon that proved to work really well on fucking planets up. First one had the design flaw. They just keep going at it because by that time the Emperor went full on Supreme Leader mode and dissolved the senate and wanted to rule the galaxy by fear alone and what better thing to instill fear than having a huge ass laser that blows up planets.

It was half assed idea in genera to have the stupid starkiller base in Ep. VII. The whole concept is retarded and if you think the Death Star is way too big, then a whole planet that sucks a star to take a shot is worse.

No way this worked, the Rebels were few against the Empire. An all out attack would have ended with all of them dead. Yavin was blasted and a huge part of the Rebels killed. Makes sense that by Ep. VII there's still Empire forces.

This and it has a better design too. All those jagged edges make it look way more threatening.

yavin was saved when the ds1 was destroyed. the empire is destroyed when vader kills the emperor.

The funny thing is: they stole a weapon from the separatists, became overly attached to the idea and kept rebuilding it over and over.

You have a galactic empire. You enslave systems and their inhabitants. But that's not enough power. You need a massive battlestation capable of wiping out any opposing fleet, base or planet in a matter of minutes/hours. That's when such weapons make sense.

I would not be surprised if they build another one for ep VIII. I honestly love those things and how they always fuck up by leaving small gaps so you can fire some torpedoes in.

I had thought for the longest time that they only half blew up/disabled the death star in a new hope and were just fixing it in return of the jedi. meh, its whatever. solid conclusion.

So, would you say the only thing the Empire is afraid of is losing its power?

ROTJ Death Star is one of the most aesthetic things in movies

>Vader learns that Sideous has been restraining his powers by keeping him in the suit.
>Vader secretly creates his own suit that allow him to use the potential he had as Anakin
>Confronts Sideous
>Vader absolutely destroys him
>Sideous loves this secretly, as he knows that he has unleashed a monster
>Anakin now an unstoppable force as he has the maturity, restraint, and force powers of Vader while also having the physical abilities of Anakin
>Rules the galaxy

Think of all the asteroids they had to mine to get the materials for the death star. Then all the machining and factory work needed to make the prepared materials. Then all the skilled labor required to put it all together.

Why didn't they just skip all the bullshit and sling a bunch of asteroids into the planets they wanted to destroy?

really makes u think

The Empire attacked Yavin in full force following the restriction of the Death Star, forcing the Rebel fleet to flee and hide on Hoth.

is this from eu? i don't remember it being said in the films

The Empire is vast, so it would make sense for hold outs to stick around for years or decades, as admirals, generals, and other higher ups make localized power grabs with their fleets and troops. Imagine being an admiral of a battle fleet on the opposite side of the galaxy from Endor. You still control your sector and the rebel forces are weakened and localized at Endor posing no immediate threat to you.

The building of the death star created a huge number of skilled jobs which is great for the economy.
This makes the empire loved because they keep unemployment well down with their crazy project, something the Republic was never able to do

ok. the thread is about roj, not what might happen after it

It's gonna be like metal gear solid 2 and Rey is gonna have to destroy like 20 death stars at once

Well why the fuck couldn't they just use that work to build more ships and tractor beams with which to sling asteroids with.

the death star was a mistake

kek

Pretty sure they just used wookie slaves. Otherwise, the invasion of Kashyyyk was a massive waste of resources.

it could easily be assumed with the empire's might

>implying the Empire pays people to work on it
slave labor.

>assumed
so did it happen or not?

Yes

Opening crawl from The Empire Strikes Back:
"It is a dark time for the
Rebellion. Although the Death
Star has been destroyed,
Imperial troops have driven the
Rebel forces from their hidden
base and pursued them across
the galaxy.

Evading the dreaded Imperial
Starfleet, a group of freedom
fighters led by Luke Skywalker
has established a new secret
base on the remote ice world
of Hoth.

The evil lord Darth Vader,
obsessed with finding young
Skywalker, has dispatched
thousands of remote probes into
the far reaches of space...."

At least it keeps the undesirables off the streets. The empire did nothing wrong

ok. still doesn't say yavin was "blasted" and "a huge part of the Rebels killed." just that the rebels were forced to flee

>overthrow democracy by privately fueling a war
>enslave aliens and force them into labor camps
>kill anyone who voices against your corruption
>oppress the people you rule and force them to live in poverty
literally stalin / mao tier

I'm not the idiot you were arguing with who claimed those things, but the Empire most certainly invaded Yavin.

ok. thanks
