it's all banjo hipster americana rehashes about social justice or interpersonal relationshits

normies that think theyre hip got a hold of it and it turned into shitty quirky nu-male pop

It became part of the culture industry.

Just a lack of new ideas, same with rock music in general.

Everybody listens to the same bands (Joy Division, the Cure, the National, Beach House) and wants to replicate the same sounds.

Mac Demarco.

Nothing. There's plenty of good artists playing like

>ok

hasnt indie always been for hip[sters? like beat happeniong are quintessential early indie.

that's a pretty cute soy boy? sauce?

Yeah exactly. These bands are a dime a dozen and they all sound super similar to one another.

I wish these musicians would get some more creativity and experiment a bit more with their style. Or that hipster yuppies would actually show more interest in unique styles and bring different styles to the forefront.

Also pitchfork is to blame

not enough juice

All these bands are either shill trash, fell off hard, meh, or decent. What's this supposed to prove?

Any music that focuses on reality and tries to imitate it fails dramatically. Art should never be a vehicle for transferring items but a house which you can purposely rest among them. Attaching societal value on art strips it from it's beautiful aimless.
That's the reason I hate punk rock and "indie".

Don't conflate good artists who've been established musicians for years with your shitty bedroom trust fund "lofi" bullshit
>Clairo
>Boy Pablo
>Frankie Cosmos
>Zack Villiere
>Rex Orange County
>Yellow Days

Cool post your music.

>Comparing Kurt Vile and Car Seat Headrest to "daddy-buy-me-a-DIY-aesthetic"-core garbage
kys shill

What the hell do you mean by 'focusing on reality'? Legit if we're talking about art in the broad sense Pollack and Van Gough are cool and all but but their social impact is arguably less significant than film and photography of warfare, or hell, even pornography in terms if instigating a social impact.

It's why hip-hop is much more widely listened to than experimental drone and post-rock. People want something that articulates their questions regarding social relationships on terms of race, gender, violence, etc., and music can readily provide that.

lol all those new artists emurged just as all those older ones did. out of having rich daddies

lol car seat headrest epitomises that

>Everybody listens to the same bands
Basically this. An artist's influences cut through in their music, so since every indie band is a bunch of sadbois that listen to Joy Division and cry, all their music sounds like knockoff Joy Division.

I mean to a certain degree of financial stability I guess. I'm not really sure that people like Chaz Bundick and Mac Demarco were born into Dickensian squalor or anything but I know they aren't the heir to literally millions like Clairo and Frankie cosmos. Nor do I think you need to grow up on food stamps to make artistically relevant music though

>Frankie Cosmos
>Porches
>Car Seat Headrest
>"good artists"

"Indie" music has been shit since it became a genre tag at some point in the 80s or early 90s. Prior to that, indie just meant music of any genre released by an independent label. Since then, it's become a blanket term for "alternative" pop/rock with a transparent DiY ethic made for and by skinny, white-guilt-ridden urban twentysomethings, most of which is released by a subsidiary of a major label anyway. Your list of Low-T-core "artists" only solidifies OP's point.

>People want something that articulates their questions
Such a nice way to say that they simply want to be reassured of their already preconceived set of beliefs. And the kind of music you decribed works perfectly as the tool of proselytization of the masses. Mere advertisment.
Art for the sake of itself is a concept that should be encouraged instead of ignored like it happens most of the time.

Holy shit everything you listed is mediocre or worse.

>Such a nice way to say that they simply want to be reassured of their already preconceived set of beliefs. And the kind of music you decribed works perfectly as the tool of proselytization of the masses

No, you've got it all wrong. Generally political music tends to revolve around undermined beliefs, where expressing them musically is the artist's best way of bringing their opinions to a popular artist.

Don't tell me N.W.A. was consumed exclusively by people who had anti-police beliefs and sympathetic views to drug traffickers in impoverished neighborhoods. But the gangsta rap music exposed a new level of sympathy and understanding to that community which couldn't have been achieved otherwise.

If you legitimately think political artists which reached worldwide publicity like Kendrick Lamar, Rage Against the Machine, Grandmaster Flash, or Public Enemy could have voiced their opinions through literature or direct speech you're very, very wrong. Call it 'proselytization' or 'advertisement' or any other incorrect term you want, but in reality it's protest expressed through art. The musical equivalent of graffiti.

**bringing their opinions to a popular audience. Typo sorry

marketing and undiscerning audience

i don't know, it's so lame, uninspired, whiny and childish. people that make it usually have no care in the world so their "sadness" is completely pathetic and fake.

I can't wait until post-indie music becomes a thing, artists like king krule sort of fit into that style even though he's been in the game for a long time.
But for fucks sakes, all these lofi bedroom pop songs are so cookie cutter, they all sound the same. I find it ironic that fucking SoundCloud rappers have more individuality than these indie artists, especially since these indie art hoes are all about "muh uniqueness"

Part of what makes king krule great. While all these hipsters are dressing in old jeans with tucked in t shirts, my man Archy rocks a full on suit.

Pick all the decent artists out of this trash list
>Kurt Vile (Isn't gimmicky, just a singer songwriter and a good one at that)
>Lemon twigs (they're okay, gimmick sucks though)
>Mac Demarco (he's okay, his gimmick sucks though)
>Toro Y Moi (started making this type of music before anyone and is 1000 times more talented than basically all of them)
>Girlpool (I'm a sucker for annoying hipster girl vocals and the songwriting ain't bad)
Well that was pretty easy.

King Krule is just post-punk plus 24/7 chill lofi study beats

King Krule is way more talented than anyone else in the scene. Better songwriter, doesn't rely on gimmicks, pulls from the past but turns it into something fresh and new.

Agree with your picks and taste but why leave out
>Mild High Club
>Ducktails
>Foxygen
>DIIV

I fucking hate rex orange county so much. His songs are so well produced, and he has a great voice, but god damn his songwriting is the most generic shit I've heard in my life. It's literally the epitome of angsty hipster.

>the game
stopped reading here. back to ktt or reddit

Do you also get triggered when people say an album "dropped" instead of "came out?"

I think it's equally stupid and trendy

>came out
released is the word you're looking for

Why do britbongs get triggered when they notice other people using a different vernacular?
Go shoot a wad

dubs of truth
also
I'm sick of seeing her, post her goddamn tits or get the fuck out of here plant
> There's plenty of good artists playing [indie] like
>Foxygen
>Angel Olsen
you have two good artists in that last., also Steve Lacy plays Jazz nigger

this

Because they're conceited classists that think language is constructed by college professors and other bourgeois professionals.
Music is a celebration of linguistic creativity circulated by the masses. Get over it.

>Because they're conceited classists
Oh the irony.
>Not one good composer during peak classical music eras

Dude just shut up ffs like you're getting so mad over people using phrases you don't like. Not even meme phrases, just slang. Go outside, meet new people. Right now nothing you posted here has been of value. Clear up your head and stop being a depressed pretentious fuck.

Who is this semen demon?

>think I'm a Gaynglo
I was saying the bongs are full of them selves even though, during peak classical music ( and peak music) they contributed nothing.

It got raided by corporate backed shills and became a hollow husk of what it used to be.

Exactly. So the new inspiration comes from bands that have had their style handed down to them from a previous band. It's just a continuous cycle of watering down a certain style or genre.

pls pls pls pls stop posting this ugly motherfucker

>Kurt Vile (Isn't gimmicky, just a singer songwriter and a good one at that)
Pleb detected. Kurt Vile makes boring memerock with a fake southern accent despite being from philly, war on drugs is only slightly better

What the fuck is memerock? Have you even listened to Walkin on a Pretty Daze? And have you watched his interviews? He sounds exactly like he sings. I'm sure if his videos looked like he recorded them on tape and he wore the latest hipster fashion you'd love him.

>DUDE SO RETRO LMAO
